I came here for lunch with Sasha J. last week and as always, it did exactly what it said on the tin. Quick, tasty, affordable. I love that you can sit down and get stuck in straight away. One of the 3 Wasabi restaurants in Manchester, this sushi bar is situated in The Printworks, a part of town that i rarely visit. On this occasion we needed a bite to eat after visiting the Odeon Cinema and with Wasabi being a quick, cheap eatery we decided to stop by. It's very small inside, but we were seated at the belt and ordered the Set Menu B. This consists of 3 grey plates from the belt and 1 hot dish from the kitchen for £8.95. The pork soba noodles that i ordered were very good and the sushi off the belt was fresh and tasty. Overall, it's cheap and cheerful! read more

Originally I was not convinced by Wasabi but actually I have decided I do like its cheap sushi and I ate a huge amount here the other night (my friend looked mildly horrified) and it still only came to £14. Salmon and eel both of decent quality, I also liked the prawn maki. Wasabi is great if you're in a hurry and/or dining alone. You leave feel fairly healthy, having eaten something a bit different and without having spent that much. Winner! read more

I have been here in the past and the lack of customer service put me off..before they used to be rude and snarl at you if you asked for something off the belt... Sooo I decided to come back because I could not be bothered walking to the one in China town... The atmosphere is a lot better now and the customer service..and I liked the cozy feeling you get..the menu is the same as the other wasabi restaurants..I.e cheap sushi and main set meals.. I highly recommend a Ramen soup dish with a spicy base..it's not for the faint hearted though as the portion is huge! Overall I'm glad I came back..its amazing what difference having new staff can make :) read more

I tried the Printworks branch of Wasabi after having only tried another one a few years ago. I was happy with the amount of vegetarian options and the food was really tasty. I had vegetable gyozas, edamame beans, miso soup, some avocado maki and some red pepper and asparagus rolls. It was a delicious mix. At lunchtime a lot of the plates are £1 so it was also really good value for money. I will definitely be back. read more

Wasn't planning to eat here cause I usually just come here for dessert but ended up eating here for dinner. This place has a couple of real affordable dinner offers... For example I got a bowl of chicken yakitori udon soup with 3 types of sushi dishes chosen from their sushi conveyer belt for £8.95. There's a couple of other dinner offers so if you're going heap for dinner this is the place! The sushi isn't spectacular or even good... It's just sushi so don't expect much from it, but hey with their prices why complain?! The udon dish I ordered was flavourful and they are generous with their portion. The chicken yakitori was ok... Pieces of chicken and bell peppers with teriyaki sauce... Again nothing to rave about. I couldn't end the night without ordering another of their shaved ice! This time I got the strawberry and mango shaved ice... It definitely didn't disappoint and in the end of the night, my tummy was happy and I only paid about £11. read more

Wasabi, I taste of the orient spreading across the nation like wild fire. Wasabi does Japanese pumped out at a commercial scale, the food is nice and the menu easy to understand. It's broken down into dishes in different coloured bowls, different colours cost different amounts of mula. You sit at the conveyor belt and wait till something that takes your fancy comes your way, this means if your not fully aware of whats going on you can spend a lot very very quickly which is always upsetting. The dishes are nice and the staff quick off the mark so you never go short but just watch the bill rise and rise if you don't keep doing algebra in your head. Big variety though of sushi and thai curry style dishes. This place always leaves me hungry though, could definitely do with bigger portions. read more

Wasabi. I do love wasabi the paste, well, not to the extent that I'd eat it with a spoon because that would no doubt make my tongue disintegrate. But I do think it adds a certain je ne sais quoi to sushi, thus as soon as I saw a Japanese place named after it, I was sold. I instinctively trusted it. And rightly so. Wasabi's alright it is. A much-needed independent addition to the Predictable Printworks, this little sushi and noodle bar can deliver to your very own home. I actually discovered it via the Just Eat website, for which I owe both thanks and fist-shakings at Laura N - my life is so much more convenient and tasty, yet my entire pan collection is gathering dust. My friend and I ordered a sushi platter on Saturday night for TV funtimes and it did the job perfectly, plus the veggie tempura we grabbed with it was delish. Quality-wise I've had better sushi in California, but while we're limited here, it's the best we can get and great value too. It's been brilliantly worded on Yelp before as a great jumping off point for Wagamama fans. You'll find a lot of similar dishes but much more variety, so you can stick with your favourites and experiment at the same time. For example, does Wagamama do tempura? Is George Michael on board with upping the criminal classification of marijuana? Well, just to explain, the answer to both of these questions is a resounding nay. As well as the tasty hot mains and yumdedum starters, Wasabi has a sushi conveyor belt for eating in but you can also order platters to be delivered to your home with the recognisable nigiri, rolls, maki, gunkan and sashimi. As both a lover of nibbling on sushi and slurping on noodles, soups and rice, this place is pretty much perfect and is a great little alternative if you've become disillusioned with Tampopo or Wagamama. And for the prices, the portions can be mighty generous. Definitely a keeper. read more

This is probably the better of the two wasabi restaurants in Manchester, the other one (found in china town) certainly has a more authentic atmosphere but I often find there is more choice in the printworks restaurant as well as being larger and offering table seating for those not eating off of the belt. The Sushi is always fresh and the portion sizes are great, I Tend to go for the set menu consisting of 3 plates of sushi and a main course dish of either noodles (soup noodles or wok fried) or rice, this costs under £8 and offers great value for money. Occasionally I go to the wasabi in china town for my lunch and if you go between 12pm and 3pm midweek you can get each plate of sushi off of the conveyor belt for £1 and 4-5 plates will fill up the average fellow. The service isn't great, but it is fast although it usually takes a while to get their attention if you need something. All in all this is a good sushi style restaurant, which is very good value and I recommend giving it a go read more

Good quality at a great price Okay, if you're hankering for sushi on a belt, the first place you think of is Yo Sushi, but what you're paying for is that cheeky branding, the ridiculous robot noises and the location. Go a little further afield, to the Printworks or even to the Chinatown branch and hit Wasabi (not the take out one in the south of England). Yes, it's run by Chinese staff and chefs but the food is good quality at value for money prices, especially for the weekday lunch time special, which also runs all day Sunday. Spectacularly good when I went (with the parentals for mum's birthday, and they don't do eating out!) was the eel inside out roll with bonito flakes: fishy as sushi should be but flavoursome with a novel mouthfeel. I'll be back for the ramen - it looks amazing! read more

I can't even begin to explain how terrible my experience was at this restaurant. I have never in my life been treated so rudely as a customer. My partner and I were looking forward to a dinner in town, which is something of a rare occasion and general manors from staff should go unsaid. A waiter was stood less than a foot away from my partner, watching him dish out ginger and wasabi. He had accidentally put the wrong utensils back into each pot and the waiter had told him off previously for this. So decided to resolve the problem by actually watching us with his arms folded less than a foot away. I was extremely uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. Staff were also not happy with us keeping a menu while we ate and were hovering to take these away. I also found that through the majority of our time eating, the same waiter who was watching us would come along mid mouthful, lean over us to grab the sushi bowl lids. Last time I ate here, I was given student discount, I asked again and the lady didn't even give me a verbal response she just shook her head. I asked her when did they stop doing it, and her reply was 'when did we ever start?' I paid the bill and left. It wasn't until later tonight, that I realised how bad we were treated as paying customers, and working in the customer service sector myself, I would never dream of treating customers like this. I tried contacting the restaurant direct via email, but had no response yet. Such a shame because the food is actually pretty good and if it wasn't for the service we would have actually enjoyed our meal. I've never given a restaurant a bad review, or said I won't be returning, but when you pay for a meal the experience goes hand in hand, and for me that wasn't good enough. read more

Went on Sat night before a concert. We were in a rush and the place was very busy so we sat at a table rather than the belt so cant comment on the standard of the sushi. The service was very quick and the quality of food was decent although the portions could have been a bit bigger. However, only ordered the grilled chicken and noodles so would maybe get a starter/sushi aswell next time. Exceptional value for money, main and a beer was only £7! (30% off al carte menu). The Mr and I went here when we struggled to find places open on NY Day 2012- not knowing Manchester we knew it would be a bit difficult! Now, I'm not a fish person so have always been put off Sushi bars due to the misconception that it's all fish however I read the menu and settled for the fact it wasn't 'just fish' and if all else failed I could have soup! I'm really glad we had this experience as the food was super. The 'conveyor' style sushi was predominantly fish but had a generous amount of veg to offer and a token 'chicken' plate which kept me happy with the offerings. I went for a set menu for £8.95 which was 3 'sushi' off the belt, Ramen noodles in a spicy vege broth and a portion of tempura veg- this was all so delicious and the broth was just on the right side of spicy to almost heal me of my disgusting 'Xmas flu'. It included a beer too which I found presented excellent value. My Mr had Ramen noodles with chicken skewers and his also was delicious. The sushi was fresh, tasty and excellent quality and I would now be more encouraged to be a little more adventurous in sampling a few other similar dishes. Total lunch bill under £15- absolute bargain!!!!! Quick service, not rushed out the door, clean and bright premises- can find nothing to fault with the experience (except i marked a point down as they sat another couple right next to us when there were a lot of spare seats!!) They have a deal on the menu for everyone weather your wanting lots of sushi or noodles or a mix of both. I am a fussy person and I was happy with what they had to offer. Give it a visit! read more

It is worth mentioning that I'm a vegetarian, but a non-vegetarian friend who was with me said the same about the fish and meat dishes. Also, the service was really nice. We have been here before many times and the food is always nice. However, the staff have no customer service skills. I was made to feel like I was back in high school due to rude staff, and they just wanted customers in and out as quick as possible. However, when oriental customer came in they seemed to be treated with a lot more respect than us. We were asked where we'd like to sit and we chose and then were rudely told we can't sit there. after our meal we waited for around 25 minutes and no one came to see or ask for our bill. I approached the arsehole cashier at the till and asked if we could pay and he said "where's your bill?" to this I replied "no one gave us a bill" he then replied "well if you can ask for a bill next time instead of expecting us to to come to you" I was astonished to be spoken to like this after coming here multiple times. read more

Awful food the sushi was off the belt which tasted like it had been sat around for ages. We ordered ramen because we wasn't satisfied but it was too fishy for my liking . Up until my last visit to Wasabi (in The Printworks, Manchester) I would have gave it a solid 3 out of 5. I was consistently good, offering a fairly typical Sushi menu. However, my last visit to Wasabi on 19/9/15 at around 8pm changed my opinion. The meal started out fine, the waiter was attentive and friendly. My partner and I decided to go for the fixed menu of one noodle dish and three sushi plates and get a little off the belt in addition. We also made our usual order of soft shell crab and deep fried octopus. The food came out quickly and was warm, the soft shell crab was very nice. That's where the positives end. The octopus was over cooked, as was the belly pork in my noodle dish and the chicken in my partners noodle dish. The noodles themselves were very bland, we both left about 3/4 of the noodles we were served. Not good. Then we set about ordering some sushi to complete our deal. We attempted to order a mixed seafood Uramaki sushi plate. The waiter refused to serve it, informing us that Wasabi now only serves Uramaki in two portions. Nowhere on the menu is that stated and this hasn't been the case over the three years we have frequented the restaurant. On asking the waiter to point out where on the menu this is stated we were directed to a 'subject to availability' astrix, which didn't make any sense. So if you are eating on your own you have to order two plates if you wish to eat their precious Uramaki? What if you want three plates? Do you have to order four? Why has this not been the case before? Why would you not state this on the menu? This was a mild annoyance but not enough to prompt me to write a bad review. That was soon changed though, as they outdid themselves. Remember that Uramaki they refused to serve? They sent it down the conveyor belt. Seemingly to spite us and prove some strange point. The staff then refused to look us in the eye and didn't wish us a good night on leaving. So in summary this restaurant served us bland food, overcooked all the meat they served, falsely advertised their Uramaki sushi plates and then to top it all off insulted us by sending a dish they said was unavailable down the conveyor belt. Its such a shame! We have ate their for three years, fairly frequently. We recommended Wasabi Printworks to friends and family. We had even taken guests that had traveled from other countries there. The errors in cooking are one thing, but to feel like you are being treated like a fool and then insulted is something totally unacceptable. I will now avoid this and all other Wasabi restaurants. read more
