    Where's the shrimp tempura????
    Elaine L.

This restaurant is so picky about confirming orders and minimum orders, but they don't even make sure customers get what they order. I ordered multiple items, including shrimp tempura. Instead of shrimp tempura, I'm not sure what I got (the end pieces with my rainbow roll). On the website, the shrimp tempura looks entirely different from what I got. The entire roll is fried in the tempura batter, not just a piece of shrimp that is cut up, fried, and then rolled in with the other ingredients. It's deceptive advertising, and what I got was not what I wanted. I could barely taste the tempura batter! Please see the pictures!

Nasty chicken and frozen shrimp hibachi that is literally Chinese takeout not Japanese whatsoever. Garbage.

I used to love coming to this place years and years ago, but now it's absolutely horrible. I got the chicken and shrimp hibachi and let me tell you it was a mushy mess with old shrimp that was badly coated just frozen crap. I threw it out I don't even want a refund. They have downgraded their quality, lost a good chef, or something bad happened, but yeah I will never be back! This should serve as a lesson to step up quality and make sure that customers come first rather than serving them garbage.

Wasabi reminds me of one of those flowing weeds growing from a crack in a sidewalk. This place was clearly opened on a shoestring budget. The exterior is clean and crisp like the rest of the strip mall featuring a Publix Market. The interior is another story, and my initial impression was that this was not a place where I would feel safe eating raw fish. If it had not been for my husband pushing from behind by saying, "yeah, but if you get really sick, it will make for a fun to read Yelp review!" As sketchy as the place seemed on the inside, the sushi came out well. The temperature, flavor and freshness all seemed fine, and we did not get sick. Sorry. The people were nice, and it was fun and interesting sitting in the window and watching unlikely sushi eaters arrive, pick up, and carry out their orders. What did they order? Where did they come from? Where are they going eat? How did they come to be eating Asian food in a strip mall in Lake City, Florida? What do people do in Lake City? Why are they here? The answers to these questions are not obvious, right? So I recommend you try Wasabi in Lake City. The selection, quality, and deliciousness is head and shoulders better than picking up Sushi next door at Publix, and I think the price point is actually a little better than Publix as well. The only miss step is that Wasabi does not serve sake. Publix on the other hand does have sake in large resalable bottles. Fortunately, my husband and I carry one of those bottles around with us in our rolling bar that we call my car. We are responsible adults prepared for misfortunes like a sushi restaurant without a liquor license. Perhaps if they served sake, there would have been other diners eating and fewer diners taking their food on the road. OMG, that is were they were going to with their little bags of food; they were going to a liquor store!

Great sushi every time!! Highly recommend you try it if you haven't. The food is always fresh, and the restaurant is always clean. Owner is super friendly as well.

I come by every few months, and I'm never disappointed. The table legs are a bit questionable, like they were bought from a flood sale, but that doesn't change the fact that the food is awesome. I'd give it 5 stars, but even though the food is good it's still just Japanese fast food, and it's a bit pricey for all that. If you ask for sauce, you'll get loaded down, so definitely don't be afraid to ask if it seems like it was forgotten.

The tuna felt room temperature and was pretty bad in taste. The Happy Family was not so happy. It was overcooked and had thick brown gravy. It was totally disgusting. During our meal, one waitress was mocking her $10 per hour wage while walking around with a feather duster on a pole, dusting the ceiling cameras and the HVAC vents. The dust was flying everywhere. What really was gross was when she walked over to the sushi bar with the feather duster over food, which was on a tray under her. Unfortunately, there was a man sitting at the counter 4 feet away from her. I could see the dirt landing on his food. Within 5 minutes, I left. Low standards if this is your restaurant. I've tried a few dishes, and my favorites have been the shrimp tempura roll (#1 favorite), the crunchy LA roll, dynamite roll, the tuna avocado roll, the tom kha gai soup, the avocado roll, and the avocado salad. Hospitality was great. I was a solo diner a few times I dined in, and the severs weren't weird because I was alone. I've also dined in with a friend. They were attentive and friendly on both occasions. Takeout service is good as well. I usually call in my order and it's ready when I arrive. Prices are reasonable on the maki rolls and the few Thai dishes that I've tried. Btw, they have Japanese, Thai, and Chinese entrées to choose from. So I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the mood for any of the above, though I've only tried a few of the Thai and Japanese menu items.

The hibachi show itself was so fun and the chef was really nice and did all the normal things like the onion volcano and the rice tossing. He had a sense of humor and loaded up our plates. Right as we sat down, they gave us our salad and soup - the salad dressing was very flavorful and I liked it. The soup was a little salty but the fried onions were good. I got the chicken hibachi and my total came out to be a little over $20 after tip which for the amount of food we got, was definitely worth it in my opinion. The food itself was good, my only complaint would be it was a little too salty for my taste. Everything was still really good! Just a little too salty in my opinion. From the time we sat down to the time we got our food, we were not waiting that long at all and the servers were very nice. We made a reservation in advance and went around 7PM so it also wasn't super busy. The inside was like a regular hibachi place, and it was fun to see other parties have their hibachi show too.

The service was great, our chef was funny and entertaining (though I was sad that he didn't do the onion volcano!) and our waiters were nice. I started with a bowl of the pork Ramen and I was happy with it. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The pork was tender and juicy just like you would expect. The problem came when the sushi arrived or I guess I should say didn't arrive for my wife. She ordered a couple of rolls and only one roll came out. The explanation we got was that the restaurant was out of sushi rice. Weird thing was we got to the restaurant about an hour after it opened so it seems pretty crazy that they would already be out of sushi rice when they just open and there was hardly anyone there. I think there was only one other person in the restaurant when we were there. I ordered the sushi deluxe with a couple of extra pieces of McGee. The quality was pretty good. The fish was fresh, but it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had by a longshot. Also, you could tell they were already running out of rice because Nigiri had about half the amount of rice that you would typically expect to find on a piece of Nigiri. If not for the problem with the sushi rice this you would be a four out of five stars. I would be open to trying this restaurant again, but I don't know if my wife would. She was really disappointed that she didn't get the rest of her sushi which she was really looking forward to. I will say that our server was really nice and I certainly didn't blame her for the issue with the rice shortage.

Consider your drinks refilled! When it comes to food, understand that the sushi chef takes his time to craft art on your plate. Like seriously, look at the images I share, it's a masterpiece isn't it? So do expect a bit of a wait time but don't you worry, the fish are fresh! So order an appetizer why don't you, to keep ya tummy occupied whilst you wait. My partner and I started off with the seaweed salad and edamame. The edmame is heavy with the garlic, so do keep in mind that your breath will smell like jarlic ok? You have been warned. You could also make the edmame spicy, but that's an extra charge! The seaweed salad? It has a bit of twang to it, so it's lightly sour. No overpowering though like the ones you'd have at a grocery store. Now the star of the dinner my bae and I had... The spicy yellowtail was not that spicy for me, by partner though? He had to take his break hahaha. He got baby taste buds. It is fresh, and for you texture girlies, it is mushy. So, yeah, you may want to opt out on that if you are not a fan of cold mushy food. The big Mac roll? It was so good. All the flavors combined and dances on your tongue. In a good way though loves. In a good way. This one is not so mushy as the spicy yellowtail, you can tast the blend of different textures of the sushi. And they complete one another. The king lobster roll! Boy was this one good. So for you lobster lovers, this is a must have. There's good chunk of the lobster meet in each bite, so do expect a blend of flavors mt seafood lovers. Expect that.

My hibachi came out hot and smelled amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce mixed into the rice was really good. I do wish they gave just a little extra sauce for the rice. The rice itself was a bit stiff, but the sauce helped a lot. We also came about an hour before closing, so we were not too bothered by that. Our waitress was good, and her coworker stepped in to help when she was busy, which we appreciated. I also liked that you can see the sushi chefs working right there, and my husband really enjoyed his roll. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms, which always matters.
