While this place charges a tad higher than most vets (except OSVS), I did like that I was able to bring my 3 dogs on such a short notice--one for a sick visit and two for wellness. They were thorough. This was where my chihuahua was first found to have a heart murmur which was a good thing (the discovery, not the murmur)--he was there for an ear irritation check up. This is a convenient vet place due to hours of operation. If you find your pets needing immediate care, this would be a good alternative to your usual vet. read more

This place only cares about money - not about animals. I have worked in 3 BUSY veterinary clinics in NY so I have extremely realistic expectations of what goes on at a veterinary clinic and what to expect. And yes, I understand we are at the tail end of a pandemic, and my expectations reflect that. Warwick Animal Hospital neutered my boyfriend's dog and gave him an influenza vaccine. We booked a 2 week booster for the influenza vaccine with a technician. They told us there was no recheck required for the neuter - this was a red flag for me, because veterinary clinics usually offer a recheck 7-14 days after any surgery, and it's usually free. Whatever, I figured they would be able to recheck his incisions two weeks after his neuter when we get his influenza vaccine boostered. WELL! I was WRONG! His incisions started to look red/inflamed/angry so I called today (his booster appt is tomorrow) and they told me that they would not recheck his incisions tomorrow because it is only a technician appointment and I would have to call tomorrow at 8am to schedule an emergency appointment with a vet. WHAT? I reminded them that they performed the neuter - I have never heard of a vet refusing to recheck their own surgery. That's cruel for the animal to potentially be in pain or have an infection. We already had an appointment and this dog would be in their building, I know how easy it is to look at incisions really quickly and determine if antibiotics are needed, but this place only wants money. They REFUSED to do it without us paying for an emergency visit. That's... CRAZY. Listen, as someone who has worked for 10+ years extensively in BUSY veterinary clinics in NY, this place is horrible. They really only want money and don't care about the animals in their care. Stay away!!! There are tons and tons and tons of vets around - don't give this place your business. read more

dramatic experience! My dog was badly injured. Another big dog almost kill him. I called them to bring my dog I and I explain the situation. They told me they could not help because they were " booked " I explain it was an emergency and they say no, just call Ocean state 24 hrs care. I did and they told me they can not see my dog without a referral. I went back to them asking for a referral and they say we can't give you a referral we are book. I explain my dog was badly wounded and they was no compassion they say no. I had to wait to have an opening in MA. ER. My dog almost die. I could not believe that in a extreme emergency they could not do anything for my dog when I been a loyal client for 4 years. It truly is a shame when corporate companies become too greedy. I have decided to continue my dogs care at another facility due to their greed. I can tell the public that while my dogs have received care here they were treated well. The front staff, vet techs and Drs took very good care of my dogs. However, I do have a house veterinarian Dr that my family has had for over 20 years and we continue to have her as our wellness check Dr and used this facility for all other issues including nail trimming. As I tried to book another appointment it became a problem and was told there were some new changes in their policy. My dogs would have to see their Drs for (a 74.00 fee per dog) for a check up once a year. Only then they would continue trimming the dogs nails for 26.00. My dogs are not new to them. My dogs have had procedures there and non wellness checkups & bloodwork etc. I guess what they are trying to make me do is either A) dump my 20 years with a vet who takes care of yearly shots so they can get every red cent or B) make me the fool and waste hard earned money for a Dr to look them over. Not on my dollar!!! I even mentioned that one of my dogs needed teeth cleaning as my other dog had it done the year before here. Therefore, would need an appointment to see the vet and have blood work done. That apparently was not enough. I was told the dogs would still need a appointment with the Doctors every year. After a week of back and forth conversations (poor secretaries had to do the "dirty" work due to the office manager never returning my phone calls to discuss this important matter) I then made the choice to leave. I was kindly told today that I might want to take the dogs to a groomer for nail trimming and just make the appointment for dogs with the doctors there to make it a cheaper appointment. I want to like this place because the people are nice, but the level of disorganization and long wait times make it hard. Every time we go to the vet with our dogs, we wait in the parking lot a minimum of 40min before they're brought in. This has happened when we're the only car in the parking lot! Today, I asked for all my pets records.  I will not be returning. This weekend, I needed boarding for my dog.  I called on Sunday to make arrangements to have my dog boarded from that Wednesday to Sunday.  They told me that he needed to seen prior to update his vaccinations.  I took the first available appointment, which was Tuesday.  I asked if my dog was good to board on Wednesday then and the person on the phone said "Yes". Today, I was told that pre-boarding appointments must be booked 5 days before boarding and they cancelled my boarding reservation leaving me without care for my dog during my 5 day trip and 24 hours to find it. When I asked them why they would schedule a pre-boarding appointment for the day before, they blamed me for making the appointment.  The vet stared at me offering no help or apology.  No suggestions of places I could call or services in the area.   I wouldn't have made the appointment if they hadn't said my dog was set to board. Upon bringing my boyfriend's two dogs here for nail clipping, we overheard another customer complaining that her dog was bleeding after getting their nails clipped. This should've been our first hint. Unfortunately, since this is their usual vet, we decided to go on anyways. Needless to say both our dogs ended up bleeding profusely and the vet tech didn't seem bothered, as if this is normal. Afterwards I did some research and found out that most groomers carry a specific powder that stops the bleeding. It's surprising a vet of all places would not check the nails before bringing them back to the lobby & that the powder wasn't used on the second dog (who bled also) after bringing the first dog out (which we mentioned right after when we noticed). I've been taking my dogs here for many years. When my daughter adopted a kitten she brought it to them for a health check and scheduled some work. They sent me the reminders for her appointment. They called me to remind me. I asked them why. They said that they were given my contact information. Not true according to my daughter. We went here with our old dog, who was having trouble eating and his legs were giving out. The kindeness, courtesy, care, and respect that we were given by Heather, the hospital manager, and her staff was astounding. It was a very hard time for out family, our dog had been with us for 14 years. They laid out our options in a respectful, truthful way, allowing us time to make our decision. When the time came for us tonsay goodbye to our old friend, they were supportive and caring, allowing us all the time we needes to say goodbye. Let me preface by saying that my cat has had kidney issues in the past and and was previously placed on a kidney diet. I brought him in in November 2019 because he had blood in his urine and seemed very tired. Warwick animal hospital took his blood and told me that his kidney levels are NORMAL , the food seemed to be working and nothing to worry about. They did suggest an ultasound but they reassured me it's not the kidneys. Fast forward 3 weeks later my cat is extremely lethargic and weak. I took him right away to ocean state vet hospital in East greenwich. They called Warwick animal hospital 3x to get records faxed but no one ended up doing it. They would not respond with records THE VET at the animal hospital could not understand how Warwick didn't see how bad his kidney levels were They took a sample of his blood and told me HE HAD CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AND FAILURE and HIS BLOOD TEST WAS VERY BAD. I had to put my cat down as a result of all this. Heartbreaking. I do want to say that the girls at the front desk are very nice and professional but I don't understand how my cat was not diagnosed correctly at Warwick animal hospital. One or my neighbors did say she had a similar problem with a friends dog at Warwick animal hospital and records with mixed up. I don't want to say that is what happened to my cat but it's a possibility Based on my experience I won't be returning to Warwick animal hospital. read more

The staff is great but the last 2 vets that I've seen have been extremely frustrated!! So, IF I take my dogs back there is no way that I will go see either one of the previous vets!!! The first time I took my cat there, they didn't do much but cleaned her ears because she had a yeast infection in her ear, I thought it was ear mites. They urged me to get meds for mites and parasites although she had none. Price first visit with ear meds=$150. I wasn't sure if my new adopted cat from PARL had her rabies shot so they said they would call. Two weeks later, went back for a follow up. They never called to find out about the rabies shot as they said they would then gave Millie a shot. Bill this time was $132. This place is money hungry. read more

I brought my dog to this vet several times before a friend called me in an emergency because their dog had been brutally attacked and was on the verge of dying-- and it was on a Sunday. I told them Warwick Animal Hospital. I found out afterward they had been turned away, the receptionist told them through the door there was no Veterinarian there (even though they advertise Emergency Care on Sundays) They took her to Ocean State Animal Hospital and thanks to their team, and after several surgeries, she is OK. So, Warwick Animal Hospital lost a 4 or 5 figure bill for no good reason....why would they turn away a dog bleeding to death? No compassion whatsoever. I recently too my 17 year old dog there to be euthanized. We had to wait 2 and a half hours to be seen. During this time the tech periodically came out to tell me it would not be much longer. In the mean time my dog was choking on her saliva and shaking from pain. I went to the front desk. The receptionist chatted on the phone. I was a mess and should have insisted that someone take her but I was not thinking straight. When I finally did get to see the vet, she came flying into the room out of breath. The excuse she gave was that they had a lot of euthanasia s booked. My question is why would they do this knowing how difficult it is for owners. Took my dog here like 5 months ago after being treated by a previous vet for 6 months for a severe autoimmune disease. At the time that I brought my dog in, he had already been successfully titrated down from 80mg plant sterols daily to 5mg. The vet decided to switch him to 20mg of prednisolone since she was "unaware" about plant sterols. I was hesitant that the dose would be too high for him but she insisted. He took the prednisolone for 3 days and experienced increased nervousness, afraid to go outside, vomiting, and a dry hacking cough. I called the vet very upset about switching him to prednisolone but she was unable to understand my frustration and insisted 20mg prednisolone was a safe low dose. While that may be true for most dogs, my dog was not tolerating it well at all. I informed her I wanted to switch back to the plant sterols as he was doing well on his very low 5mg dose. Being a RN, I'm aware steroids must be titrated slowly and carefully, even more so in dogs than humans. She said I could safely switch him back to his 5mg plant sterols after the 3 days of 20mg prednisolone. I followed her instruction and put him back on 5mg plant sterols. He then began to experience his initial symptoms of his autoimmune disease, unable to walk, unable to swallow, shaking to the point of it looking like he was having seizures - all of the things he was started on the plant sterols for in the first place. I called the vet several times over this period but she was not available and I was only able to leave messages with receptionists. Kenny was the only helpful person I spoke with over the phone. The woman who I spoke with asked if i wanted to leave a message and then stated that it was too long and complicated of a message for her to take a message on... after no help from the vet, it was clear my dog had to start again on a high dose of plant sterols to counteract this effect from abruptly stoping the much stronger steroid prednisolone. To this days- 5 months later, we are unable to titrate him down to his initial 5mg dose without him experiencing his autoimmune symptoms. He is currently taking 40mg plant sterols without problems - except when we try to wean him back down. The point of this story is that the vet completely discredited my opinion and experience with my dog, insisted on a medication too strong and unnecessary which negatively affected my dog and his treatment plan for months to follow, and majority of the staff were unable to understand my concerns or pass along a message without me having to call several times. read more

I have been to this hospital twice and both times were emergency visits. The first time was in 1997 when my dog was hit by a car. The staff was wonderful and my dog was well cared for immediately and had a great outcome. The second visit was in November 2018. My kitty was very sick and I had to put her to sleep. I wanted to write an update since my previous review was so general . My dog just had to have surgery to remove to large cysts/masses. The first one we'd talked to the vet about a year and a half ago during her annual checkup. They ran some tests, determined it didn't seem to be cancerous and advised keeping an eye on it but said she didn't need surgery. In the meantime she's developed another cyst under her foreleg that was starting to affect her movement. I discussed it with the vet during her "senior checkup" a few weeks ago. They tested it and while it didn't seem cancerous, they advised removing it. We scheduled a consultation with a surgical vet who talked us through the pros and cons of surgery, and yesterday she had the cysts removed. What's really important to me is that the entire time the vets gave me complete, unbiased information and struck a good balance between ensuring I understood everything fully without talking down to me. They made their recommendations, but I didn't feel like I was being pressured into treatment she didn't need. Even when running the initial tests the vet was sure to discuss the fact that it's possible that the cyst was malignant and that the sample they took just didn't happen to have any of the bad cells in it. I like to be informed as a consumer, especially about something as important as my pets health. I want to be talked to honestly and be allowed to make an informed decision, and the vets at Warwick Animal Hospital made sure that's what happened. And for those who wonder, I'm writing this on my couch with my rottie curled up next to me, happily resting and recovering after her surgery. read more

the level of genuine care, sympathy, respect and professionalism we receive at warwick animal hospital for our two senior dogs has been nothing short of wonderful. we have been taking our two senior dogs here for the last 7 or so years. we sadly lost one of them last month due to natural causes, and WAH went above and beyond to send us their condolences. she was truly loved there. i have never felt like WAH put us in the position of over-selling tests or medications, which has been an issue at other veterinary practices in the past. the staff at WAH always try to give us in-depth understanding of our dogs' medical needs. Dr. Castro has been especially helpful in managing our senior beagle's cushing's/diabetes and has gone out of her way to research options for us. i put no fault on WAH for increasing prices, wait times, bookability or their covid policies. vets, techs, and receptionists are people too, and while it can be frustrating to not been seen immediately, i know they do their best. they are always helpful on the phone, and provide guidance and advice even if our dog can't be admitted right away. i'd also like to mention that the vet medicine field is in critically dire straits at the moment, and a little bit of kindness and compassion towards the vets, techs and receptionists goes a long way. the pandemic lead to historic pet adoptions and thus more pet owners bringing them in for routines or emergencies, while at the same time the field is shrinking in terms of vets and people to work at the office. overwhelming! working in vet med is not a hugely profitable field; they do it because they want to help our pets as much as we do. i deeply appreciate all the help WAH has given us over the years and i don't begrudge a single penny spent there helping our dogs. read more

They are really good with my dog. Expensive, but dogs cost money. My cats, however, have been seen very recently and the doctor was very rude and seemed to rush us through the appointment. I found two kittens and wanted them checked out before exposing them to my 3 year old dog and cat. I also suspected they had ear mites. We were the last appointment of the day, so maybe they were just crabby and tired, but if I were rude to my clients, they would post a bad review, too. It didn't seem like the tech had much experience with.. ahem.. temperature taking, although he humored my 'pet owner know-it-all' attitude as I helped hold them while my roommate comforted them. He was a nice enough guy, and was able to confirm an age for my little ones, too. We waited in the waiting room for a good 35 minutes while the doc 'wrapped up a dog's foot'. Must have been a giant freaking dog. The poor vet tech kept checking on us and apologizing for the delay. He was very polite. Vet seemed a bit pretentious and in a rush. No apologies. She scowled at my flea collars, and told me that I should have brought the kittens in before exposing them to my animals. This is exactly what I was doing. No notes were taken? They checked for mites and my suspicion was confirmed. The vet did cut me a break and only swabbed one kitten's ears instead of charging for both. Then, as always, they tried to push for Revolution flea preventative (that they didn't even have in stock.. wtf) and sent me on my way with a prescription that will float in my purse until two years from now when I clean it out. Thankfully I have another vet that my animals see, because I will not be returning to WAH with my cats. Morgan at the front desk always makes the visits end with a good note. She should be recognized for her patience and kindness. read more
