I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien.

Alex explained the estimates (between standard water heater and tankless), cost, installation, and how long the job would take. They could install the next day (yeh hot water!) He was even careful to put on booties every time he was in the house. Alex also gave me the heads up when they were going to turn off the water and the gas to the house so we'd be prepared. Next, Alex decided to test the water pressure coming into the house. It was at 100psi. Standard is anywhere from 40-80 psi and higher pressure can break down your faucets and water heater faster.
