It is a hotel and the reception is inside the pub so it is open all day which is unusual for many of the village pubs in this area. They serve food from noon till 3pm and 6pm till 9pm but we didn't dine so I can't comment on the quality of the food. There were three or four local beers on including Secret Kingdom and Coast to Coast from Hadrian's Border Brewery as well as the usual lagers etc. There is a pool table, and we enjoy a game, but on each occasion that we were in it was totally monopolised by the landlord and staff. I'm sure we could have put our 50p on the table but I don't think we'd have been too popular! :-) The pub is dog friendly and has a beer garden to the rear which would be a nice place to while away an hour on a sunny day. Reasonable little pub really, I'd have given it four stars if we'd been able to play pool! :-)

We are in the dining room last night and the bathrooms smelled like manure and there was no toilet paper. As a female, it is kind of a necessity. The toilet was so close to the wall you had to kind of sit sideways. And there were tons of flies and I don't know why. There was no hot water. You turn the knob and absolutely nothing happens. The cold water works just fine though. There is no parking on site as advertised. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable. The pillows are flat like they are several years old. The door to our room (11) doesn't shut properly so an alarm goes off letting you know it's not locked. On the fire escape outside my window are several irons and ironing boards and a picture just sitting there. Dinner last night was good but pricey. There are no extra rolls of toilet paper. I get the building is 400 years old and will have issues but certainly does need some TLC. No experiences with the paranormal either but has nothing to do with my review.

I wanted to leave but Amin was such a good host I bit the bullet, and mustered the one night. Also, I had to go downstairs to ask for toilet paper, then at break of dawn I got up to shower a bit tired from restless night of one eye open, and to my surprise there is no cold water! Just hot hot water! But in the sink, there is cold water! They say this hotel is haunted, i think it might be the rats that reside inside the walls of this establishment. Oh, shower was recently upgraded, still not worth staying here unless your a friend of Ferrol rats.

Being an old building the whole place has a bit of strange layout but other than that I nice little place for a drink. At one time there was a number of rooms available to stay in but I believe these are no longer rented out and that it is just a bar nowadays but I'm not one hundred percent sure since he refurbishment if there is now guest rooms available.

Sometimes a place of this nature will be too stiff and formal for our liking, making us feel out of place. I recently stayed here while at a friend's wedding and I have to say I wasn't overly impressed…read more When we arrived we were told that check in was delayed so we didn't have enough time to get ready for the wedding and had to use a cramped staff room to change in (and subsequent arrivals didn't even get that). The staff weren't especially helpful, we had to phone for our own taxis, despite not knowing the area, and for the price paid, the bedroom was disappointingly old fashioned and poorly equipped (although the bathroom was very nice). At breakfast, the hotel ran out of orange juice, among other things, and what food was left stopped being served at 9.30 - a little early for some of the more hungover guests. There's limited choice in this little village for places to stay but my advice would be to find somewhere else!
