Outstanding customer service. We have had watch batteries done and they are quick and reasonable pricing. I had them check my wedding ring and a ring I have from my grandmother. Both needed some work. My grandmothers ring had cracked (which I had not noticed) and needed new prongs on all the stones. I wasn't surprised as it's never had anything done. My wedding ring just needed some wear areas built back up. The rings look perfect!! The young lady (I didn't get her name unfortunately) did a great job fixing them. I am thrilled with the work done. This small shop in Lafayette recently appraised a large box of mixed jewelry for my mother-in-law. We went in thinking to appraise everything that appeared valuable. The owner saved her hundreds of dollars by making 3 categories: costume; nice but not valuable; and what should be appraised. Finally, she is wearing jewelry she loves but had been worried was 'too valuable' to potentially lose. I needed a gold watch weighed. The owner was most unwelcoming and unfriendly. He wanted to know why I wanted it weighed - I told him I had to send it to LA for appraisal as an insurance requirement. He hesitated and looked at me dauntingly. I asked him if would do so, he said he was thinking. About what you will charge me? He said this was a business and he has a lot invested and was trying to figure out what to charge me. I pointed out the scale was just behind him and it would only take a moment. Well, he was not happy. I mentioned he was not encouraging me to be a customer - I assume he would weigh it happily and encourage me to come back if I needed something. Nothing doing, so I took the watch back, told him lost a customer and took to CVS pharmacy next door, who happily weighted it on the spot. I cannot express how HAPPY I am with the repairs done to my wedding rings! I finally took them back into Milners in WC after having them cut them off a year ago because after pregnancy I had gained a bit of weight. First of all, you must know that I love love love the engagement ring my honey custom designed for me at that place in Oakland where all the couples in love love to go, and I have not a word of criticism for the quality of their work, their customer service, or the experience overall. That being said, when it came time to shop for our wedding bands, something just didn't quite click for us at that aforementioned jeweler in Oakland. It wasn't anything tangible, but something made us hesitate. A good and trusted friend heard about our hesitation and recommended a jeweler she and her family had relied on for years (Great!) in Lafayette (errrmmm? me scared.). Well, since it was our good and trusted friend, we put on our "I hella *heart* Oakland" tees and made the trek through the tunnel. When we met Stephen Ware, it was almost immediately clear why our friend is so good and so trusted. There is something unknowably reassuring about speaking directly to an artist, especially when you're about to entrust big bucks to the person, and here, you get all the time in the world to speak with Stephen. He offered an plethora of suggestions (necessary, since apparently, my honey had spent all his creative juices on designing my engagement ring), but not even a hint of pressure. All this delivered with a laid back confidence and hilarity that won our trust and confidence that he give plenty of time and attention for our rings. Again, nothing exactly tangible, but our experience made us *want* to get our rings here. Oh, wait. I know what it was. The Wedding Industrial Complex index here is low low LOW. *And* is prices are *great*. Oh, how my heart glows. So far he's been an absolute joy to work with. I will update when our rings are finally complete! I hope my honey realizes the kind of love for jewelry this man has awakened in me. :) Eight months after the wedding, and the rings are perfect. The hubby does lots of martial arts with weapons and whatnot, and the ring is comfortable enough for him to wear through class. Although they're not a watch store, I took my fancy new diver's watch to Mr Ware to have the complicated metal watch band/bracelet adjusted to fit my wrist properly, and boy am I glad I did. He knew exactly what to do and I was out of there in 10 min. He charged me 1/3 of what I would have had to pay in Walnut Creek. A lovely young woman, whose name I unfortunately didn't get, tinkered with it for about 10 minutes and handed the repaired watch back. Walking in the door, I expected to get upsold a new band, but no. A stone fell out of one of my rings due to a broken prong. Fortunately, I found it & took it to Steve for repair. He not only repaired the prongs but also built up other supports and parts of the ring that had become worn. He then cleaned and polished it back to its original beauty.
