SCS truly feels like one big family--parents, teachers, and staff all working together to nurture faith, love, and a strong sense of community. My son is not only learning academically, but also teamwork, kindness, and great manners from his teacher. The principal, Mrs. Hess, is caring, down-to-earth, and always approachable. The office staff are warm, welcoming, and so helpful whenever I need anything. I feel so confident knowing my son is in such great hands at SCS!

Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed to say that the experience I had wasn't that great. First, when I met with the principal she let me know there was a "waiting list" then later speaking with the secretary she said there was no one on the wait list they just say that. During our visit my son was taken back to a room for an assessment where I wasn't present. I sat in the office area. During the assessment, the teacher asked my son questions like "do you get in trouble at school" and "do you talk a lot in class" and things around his behavior. When prior, during the tour, I was asking the principal questions around safety and what that looked like. I even shared certain challenges like talking in class. The following day, the principal called me to let me know that my son could do a "trial" with the school and see how he does in a month. This, I've never heard of and how is that even possible! It sounded like they were being selective and wanted to see how he would behave before fully accepting him into the school. Just by this, I decided this school wasn't the best fit for him. This school lacks diversity, acceptance of all people and judge. The 2 stars are for adding a park that the school didn't have, kudos for the secretaries kindness and her transparency that the principal hid. My son is thriving at his current school and an A/B student.

We moved to Vallejo for the diversity but we left to get away from the schools. My child had a…read morehorrible experience. He was bullied and beaten up daily. The school did nothing to support my child and neglected to implement his IEP appropriately. Instead of supporting him in accordance with his IEP they would keep him from his recess to watch old seventies cartoons and even had my third grader in a preschool reading group despite the fact he has been reading since he was two. The incompetent administration even attempted to have us increase his medication rather then address the extreme bullying he was victim to. I had to attend school with my child to protect him for three weeks until we were able to get him into another school. The first day I attended I found my child getting beaten up while another child threw food at his face. There was not an adult in sight! I found the children unsupervised at lunch and recess until I complained. His teacher literally stood in the middle of the class and yelled, "I need help!" She had zero control of the class. She spent all her time with the five third graders who were unable to read while the other children threw paper airplanes. Do not send your child to this school.

Experience here has been horrible…read more The principal never replies to emails or calls. I got a call from her one day for a truancy warning. I asked her for help with resources for before/after school care, since we had a few tardies. She asked us why we moved to this side of town if we cannot afford a nanny. She offered to buy us an alarm clock to help us get to school on time. That was her only source of help or solution she brought up. She also said we could reach out to our neighbors for help if we needed it..? I asked to sit in my daughters class as I am concerned with how her teacher says she's 'concerned for her education' and that my daughter does not listen but then cannot provide actual examples. She does not have these issues at home. It's been 3 months of me asking and they have NOT ALLOWED ME TO SIT IN even though I have filled all prerequisites and have previously volunteered in the class. The teacher also mentions how there is a lot of homework missing, even though the work she refers to is 'optional' homework. Why is this counting against my daughters grade? Also, one week we did not get homework, I asked for a homework packet from the teacher. Instead of just sending a packet home, she ignored my messages, took the time out to write out a paragraph in her parent newsletter about what to do when homework is missing.. blamed us for losing the first one and said we could print one out online if we needed it. After 2 emails and 3 days, she finally sent one home. All that effort for us to do word search and reading log homework..instead of just providing the work in the first place. My daughter is only in 1st grade and this is her first year here. We plan on looking at other schools. Do not let your kid go here..their butt in a chair is just a paycheck. The staff have shown they do not care and will not help you if you aren't wealthy and donating money to the school. They're a bit clique and all very stuck up. I have received NO help, NO apologies for their behavior and attitude toward us.. they do not care about the families who's kids they work with every day. I wonder how they treat the children..
