We visited Walton's with a group that included three adults, a one-year-old, and a three-year-old. Since we had kids with us, we ordered from the special menu, which was supposed to be quicker and easier. I ordered the roasted chicken leg quarter, and that was honestly the only thing that tasted good. Unfortunately, everything else we tried was really disappointing. The turnip greens were extremely sweet and tasted canned, and the pinto beans were especially off -- they had a sour, almost mildewy flavor, like they'd been mixed with an older batch. I couldn't eat them at all. The hush puppies were very greasy, and even the tea order was mixed up. I ordered half-and-half tea, but on the second serving I was given sweet tea and had to ask again for unsweet. This might be an okay place if you're feeding a large group and not too picky, but overall the food just wasn't good, and it didn't feel fresh. I really think the kitchen needs to review quality and freshness. Personally, I'd rather eat at home than come back. I'm definitely willing to try it again but the food has got to be more fresh if it's southern home cooking. read more

Off the beaten path restaurant on 101 (going toward Town Creek), but worth a stop if you're in that area. Staff is super friendly, it packs up quickly with locals, and there's a good chance your server will call you "hon" or "sweets." I have absolutely no problem with this. You'll get hushpuppies to start (gratis), and they're good. I got catfish, better half got barbecue, and everything was well prepared and amply seasoned. They also do meat and three plates if that's your thing--basically, a ton of options on the menu at all times. They had some pies that looked delightful, but we were stuffed to the gills. Honestly one of the greatest restaurants down in Florence. We drove 30+ minutes out for it. We got seats immediately after entering and were waited on in no time. Everyone who works there has a smile on their face and is willing to accommodate you however they can. After ordering, we got some of the best husbpuppies I've ever had. Not a lot of people do them right, but they did 100%. I finished my food in 10 minutes because it was so good. It's such a nice restaurant to be in, too. This is local family county restaurant. It's very cozy and nice inside. They have best catfish is north alabama. My wife likes the whole catfish while I like catfish fillets. The price very reasonable and it is best. I have had the catfish and half rack bqq ribs. The ribs are very good and cooked in smoker. I heard from co- worker that that awesome steaks are also good and a lot cheaper than in Florence, al. They also have big tea glasses that I love . Great food can't go wrong coming here. read more

The food was excellent. My husband enjoyed the fried catfish while I chose the smoked catfish fillet. Both options were very good and the hush puppies were excellent. We waited what seemed to be an excessively long time for our food, while others around us had been served. Our server did not offer drink refills and was just not very attentive. Even when we politely asked for a refill we did not get it. Maybe she was just having an off night. We will be back but honestly the service could be a factor in our choice. read more

My husband and I ate here for lunch, maybe 10 customers there. Didn't take long for the food to arrive. We ordered hamburger's, both of them were soggy, not because of grease but because they cooked it then covered it in Worcestershire sauce. It had soaked the bun on both sides making it mush. This was also a frozen patty not fresh. I also had to ask twice for an extra condiment, the waitress told me she forgot. Another waitress asked if we wanted to put the same hamburger on a different bun... no thanks. We won't be back. read more

We've been stopping by the Waltons restaurant for many years and it's not far from the Wheeler Dam and it's between Town Creek Elgin Crossroads and Rogersville off of Alabama Highway 101! Cheapest steak I've ever had that was cooked perfectly. Went in hungry and was met with baskets of golden fried hush puppies. Not mixed with my favorite ingredients, but cooked perfectly. Got a 12 ounce ribeye with baked potato and slaw for 15 something bucks. Best mustard slaw I've had in north Alabama. It was hot mustard slaw, and a tad bit spicy. Spending the weekend in a cabin at Joe Wheeler state park. Decided to try some one of the local restaurants. Hit the jackpot with Walton's restaurant. After grabbing a seat we were welcomed with a big basket of some of the best hush puppies I've had in a long time. The waitress was very friendly as well as attentive during our entire meal. I ordered the smoked 'blackened' Cajun catfish, mayo slaw and tots. The first bite of my fish was an absolute flavor explosion. This was the best catfish I have ever had, and at 6'2" 230lbs. Wife and I went here about a week ago. The atmosphere was very home feeling and the food was good. Pricing was on point I think. Seems like it's always busy but service was very fast. Parking was plentiful and easily accessible. The customer service was excellent. They offer Togo as well. I knocked 1 star because of the cheap forks and knife that wouldn't cut my steak. The food as pretty good. The hushpuppies and white sauce were great. My girlfriend ordered the chicken sandwich though and it had two of the smallest pieces of chicken I've ever seen. When I asked the waitress for more chicken, she actually laughed at me and then came back and basically tossed two more small pieces on a plate. Her, and every other waitress for that matter, were rude and need to take a class on how to smile and communicate with customers...I'd go back for take out, but I'll never deal with that atrocious service again. read more
