When I adopted my shorthair cat, he was a bit dirty from the adoption center and he was shedding like crazy. A week after bringing him home, I took him to Walter's Pet Styles for the cat bath and basics package. My cat and I were both very nervous, but Marshall put us at ease as soon as we walked in the door. When I picked him up after the appointment, Marshall explained how my cat behaved through each step of the bath, and even gave me the most adorable photos they took during the process. After moving from Florida, I was hesitant to take my fur baby anywhere else to get groomed. The prices are much higher in NY as expected, however this is one place where you truly get what you pay for. I started grooming her with Walter & Jane and couldn't be happier. They make her look like a new pup each and every time (and she's 9 years old!) not only does she look beautiful (I get compliments constantly), but comes home soooo happy - you can tell she is in great hands at Walter's and it's worth every penny. We were so thrilled with this place that we decided to try daycare. My once socially-awkward 9 year old dog now plays with other dogs outside without barking her head off and gets SO happy to run into Walter's and say her hellos to this incredible staff. I used to read these reviews and laugh that that would never be my dog, there's no way she would run into a groomer/daycare center and actually be happy about it - but that's now my dog! It really does give you peace of mind knowing even if you're working late or have dinner plans, she is safe, happy, and well taken care of. Walter's did a great job grooming our cat! They were patient and quick with responses to all of our questions and scheduling needs, and made sure to clarify what kind of cut I wanted when I dropped him off. He is a long-haired cat that had gotten quite matted, so he needed to be shaved. He seemed happy and they complimented how "sweet" the cat was when I picked him up, and they showed him to me to make sure I was happy with the job they did before I took him home. Staff was extremely nice and contacted me as soon as he was ready to be picked up. Grooming is not cheap in NYC, we know that. Ok, so I pay more for my pups' haircut than my own..I'm a dog mom, plus they get way more Instagram hits than i ever will. That being said, we love Jane over at Walter's Pet Styles. She is gentle, maintains notes for both pups & has them ready when they have a grooming appointment. After first couple times, I didn't have to tell her how I like their hair to be cut. Walter is also very good but Jane knows both pups well so my first preference is to find time on her calendar. The only flip side is, they charge extra for brushing teeth. Something that was always included in the package at the past groomers. I know that she's in good hands -- the staff are extremely nice and competent, they're all trained and certified. Walter is AMAZING & the staff are super sweet and genuinely love animals. Came in a week earlier to check out the place after reading great reviews on Yelp. Everyone was really nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. Made an appointment for the following weekend to get my 6 month Pomeranian groomed. It was his first grooming, and we were both a little nervous. Walter came up to meet me and Yuki on the day of the appointment. He was very gentle and sweet and explained what he would be doing as well as asking me if I had any requests for the cut. Given that it was Yuki's first grooming, Walter made it point that he would be very gentle and make it a pleasant experience for Yuki. The entire grooming cost $70, which included a bath, hair cut, nail clipping, and teeth cleaning. Yuki was a bit matted given he hadn't been groomed yet, but Walter said it wasn't too bad and wouldn't affect the pricing. I believe the price point depends on the weight of the dog and severity of the matting. For reference, Yuki is 4.4 lbs. Walter did a PHENOMENAL job. We asked for a good clean up and trim--no shaving or anything as he's still growing into his adult pom coat. Walter took care of most of the matting--cutting the unruly ones behind his ears and brushing out the ones near his upper thigh. The process took longer than usual (around 3 hours) since they wanted to be patient and gentle. Pricing is very reasonable for Manhattan standards. TIPS: While they're open until the evening, they only take appointments until 2 PM for groomings. If you're a first time customer, they'll ask you to sign a few liability waivers (they'll email this to you and you just fill it out online) and provide your dog's most up to date vaccination records (distemper, bordetella, and rabies). If you use their boarding services, they require your dog to be fixed by 8 months. Lastly, they're currently offering a $49 for $100 deal on Yelp (which can be rolled over into future visits if you don't use all of it), which is a great deal :) read more

Love love love. Second time here. I went the first time after rescuing my cat. My bed frame was replaced and she hid in a non-functional fireplace I had no idea was covered in cremosote. Poor baby! Cat grooming is more expensive--by a lot--than dog grooming in this city. I can't speak to out of NY as the cat in CA never went to the groomer. But I got an email encouraging me to come back. 35% off. So it was 70 after tax pre-tip. Walter is wonderful. The last time I think Toonces say Jane. I'm going to go twice a year even when she hasn't had a mishap because I think it improves allergies. I have a longhaired Norwegian Forest cat rescue and she gets matted if you don't brush. My cat sitters are wonderful loving surrogates but they're not assiduous about brushing. She's always more matted after I leave town. But beyond that, they trim nails. This cat is the only one I know who lets me massage all four paws and touch the nail itself. I could totally trim her nails but it's still nicer for someone else to do it. And Walter is excellent. Toonces doesn't get caught up on my comforter after a trim and she is so much happier. Twice a year is better for her and better for me, though she does self-clean. I cannot recommend Walter's Pet Styles enough. And while I have no dog, I hear great things about the doggie daycare. read more

Walter's is amazing. We were very apprehensive about finding a groomers for our dog that would be as amazing as the one we first had before we moved. The first appt at Walter's really set us at ease. They took care of our dog and our specific requirements and took great Polaroids of our dog getting her first cut there. They routinely check up to get updated vax records for our dog as a necessity for the grooming and I really appreciate that. Although I reviewed Walter's Pet Styles a while ago back in 2013 (SEE MY COMMENTS BELOW), I decided to write another review because I just had my precious rescue dog Gabriel groomed there yesterday and they did such a great job on all fronts, including handling me as a nervous pet mom. There are many grooming places to choose from in Manhattan but few, in my opinion, that deliver on all fronts the way that Walter's does. Walter's provides meticulous grooming, great customer service (they actually ask you exactly what you want for your pet and then follow your instructions, unlike many places that ask you what you want and then do what THEY want because it was easier!) and reasonable (at least by Manhattan standards!) pricing. They have a first-time offer for new clients, I think, that is very reasonable. MY OLD REVIEW My dogs (a 16-year-old blind Maltese and a crazy 7-year-old brown toy poodle) got the best haircuts of their canine lives here at Walter's. The 16-year-old came back looking ten years younger and with a spring in his step! They really seem to treat the dogs well and don't yell at you or threaten you with high surcharges if the dogs are slightly matted. If I could afford to do so, I would take my dogs here every month for grooming. I think this is the best grooming place in Manhattan these days. read more

Heretofore, he's come home from the groomer tired and ready to crash for a few hours, from the accompanying stress. This time with Walter and the staff was totally different. Due to the shutdown, he was way overdue for this bath and 'haircut', so I was concerned that it would be an ordeal for him. I had no reason to worry at Walter's place. We have been sending our pup Dolly to Walter's for daycare twice a week for several months and could not be happier. Most importantly, it's clear to us that Dolly LOVES going there - the only times she pulls on her leash are when we are going to Walter's! The staff is super sweet - we live in the area so it's not uncommon for us to run into them while walking and Dolly greets them like family. We've also had her groomed by Jane, who did a phenomenal job and really listened to exactly what we wanted. It's a little pricey but the packages are a great deal, and it's all worth it to ensure our baby is getting the socialization and mental stimulation she needs. We have sent her to other daycares in the area but were turned off by how badly Dolly smelled after just a few hours - that doesn't happen at Walter's. Walter has been our go-to groomer for our beloved pup for several years now. We tried the other groomer there who didn't do the cut quite right so we've stuck with Walter since then. I'm pretty particular on how I like her cut and bring in a photo and clipper setting instructions each time but he gets the job done and it so nice to have consistent quality work. Pup isn't the biggest fan of getting groomed but I haven't really met a dog who is. HINT: around Valentines day they offer a 2-1 deal so we buy enough of these to last for in groomings for the year. read more

This is the worst groomer I've ever been to in the three cities I've lived in. I brought my dog here one time and the groomer barely even touched his face. Every other place I've brought him, they have had no issue grooming his face. Fine. Not the biggest deal. However..... My boyfriend made another appointment here without knowing I wanted to use a different groomer because of the subpar experience. Well because of their "pay up front when you make an appointment and no refunds no matter what" policy, they charged my credit card which they have on file. I tried to cancel 2 weeks before the scheduled appointment once my boyfriend told me what he did and I'm now out $100 for absolutely nothing. Of course they claimed you can use it towards your next visit, but there won't be another visit based on the previous experience. We explained we don't want to return and were basically told "tough luck." Not the greatest way to do business ‍ You should probably rethink your policies so that they are fair to your customers and the business. You might actually make more money that way.
