The perfect inner city boutique hotel…read more Smack dab in the middle layer of the onion that is Amsterdam's canal riddled geography, the Hendrick's offers an understated sophistication that is wholly inviting and completely comfortable. The staff are exceptionally knowledgeable about the area, restaurants and sightseeing options. They are also convivial and kind. The intimacy of the hotel makes it feel like a bed-and-breakfast, complete with a low key lobby bar and breakfast area. Definitely worth a stay if you're staying in the downtown area of AMS. Especially for ease of travel to and from Schiphol Airport or the central train station (a short 10-minute walk from the hotel).

The lobby was really sweet, decorated adorably / very cozy. The staff was beyond accommodating and helpful, from the second we got there. Always offering to provide recommendations, make our stay more comfortable, and even offering assistance with recommendations on further travel, beyond our stay in Amsterdam. The rooms were very spacious, cozy, quiet and had many perks like back our shades, chrome-cast on the tv, and a really wonderful shower experience. Would recommend this cute & cozy boutique hotel experience to anyone / everyone I know heading to Amsterdam in the near future & beyond!!!

I melted into it...and, yes, treats from local coffee shops definitely made that even more of a luxurious experience. The single room wasn't as claustrophobic as some reviews mention, but definitely would be cramped if two people were staying there (I was on my own). The room has a large bed, desk, and two bedside tables, and that's about it. There's a rather spacious closet (given the room size), and while the bathroom is lacking in counter space, there are drawers under the sink where you can store your toiletries. The location was perfect for being far enough away from Central Station/Red Light District but close enough for arrival/departure purposes. Situated on a canal adjacent to, if not actually in the Jordan area, super close to the Anne Frank house and walking distance to a handful of cafes, cocktail lounges, eateries, etc. Super easy to get buses/trams/walk to other neighborhoods as well and separated from the hustle and bustle so when you arrived back each night, you could leave the hectic nature of the day outside. While I didn't indulge in the dining/bar on site, it's absolutely stunning. An extremely welcoming, romantic vibe, complete with goth-y and velvet accents.

Housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay. The breakfast buffet was delicious with plenty to choose from, although a bit pricey. The bar was a nice spot to relax, and the staff were very friendly, even if a few of our orders occasionally slipped their minds. One quirk of such a historic building: there's only one elevator, so sometimes you need a little patience! The location is terrific, within easy walking distance of Central Station and convenient for exploring Amsterdam. Definitely a nice treat and a memorable place to stay!

The room had sperm stains on the sheets, hair in the sheets, in the shower, inside the folded robes, and dust absolutely covered the room, so bad that it triggered my asthma. Do not take your business there; they do not value their customers. They would rather lie to make a few dollars than have loyal customers, which explains why there were barely any clients there over the weekend despite the location. The mattresses are old and grainy to the touch like ostrich skin, and there is no protection between the mattress and the top sheet (no bottom sheet). I asked twice for a maid to come clean the room; aside from a sheet change, nothing was done. We still found long black hairs everywhere. When the 2nd maid and the supervisor arrived, they admitted that they do not clean rooms before guests arrive. (I even voice-recorded the conversation as proof; still, the hotel manager ignored it). When I brought it up to the reception, they assured me they would fix the problem; instead, they decided to lie and omit that I had reached out to them regarding the health code violations once I checked out. Again, for your health (especially if you have children or health issues), do not stay here.

Meaning I try to avoid the holiday inns and marriotts of the world. And Mr. Jordaan was the absolute perfect choice for my five day getaway with my bestie. Believe me when I say every detail has been attended to here. The location is perfect and walkable (or bike-able) to pretty much anywhere in Amsterdam. It is located right across the street from the Anne Frank house, as well as a few nice coffee shops and other points of interest. I can't help it, I love free stuff, and Mr. Jordaan delivered. The coffee machine was well appointed and always accessible. We were allowed two free sodas or other beverages a day from their cooler which was very generous. And upon our departure we were given a lovely bag of drinks, treats, and other travel essentials. Oh and there is a collection of post cards that travelers can take as collectibles or pay a nominal fee to mail to someone back home. Everywhere we turned in this hotel, there was another adorable feature to explore. Photo albums, interesting books, cute merch available for purchase, and sample travel itineraries. It almost felt like one of those escape rooms with all of the hidden little tips and tricks. All of this to say that I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. Though I never met Mr. Jordaan, and wonder if he actually exists, he guided me not unlike the wizard of oz behind the curtain to enjoy one of the most intriguing and action-packed trip of my life.

Liked the interior decor/design and focus on eco-friendly sustainable practices as well. The staff are super friendly and helpful - they provided a map and made lots of great recommendations regarding restaurants and things to see. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious - has A/C. There is a safe available in the room as well, though there was no fridge. Loved all the snacks they provided, from the gummy bears in the room, to pastries and coffee in the communal area downstairs. They also provided a snack goodie bag on checkout though I forgot to pick mine up when I went back to pick up my stored luggage at the end of the day. Overall, a fantastic stay and would highly recommend!

The staff is very friendly and mostly attentive, as you would expect it for a pricey location like that. The breakfast is good but some of the served dishes are bad value for money (e.g. a piece of bread with humus spread, a bush of rocket salad but only some crumbs of goat's cheese). The dinner I had there was good however (see pics).

We decided to go to Amsterdam at the last minute for the bank holiday weekend. We looked at…read moredifferent hotels and chose The Lloyd Hotel based upon price, availability, and that its dog friendly. Plus, the Lloyd Hotel was an old prison turned into an art project and 1-5 star hotel - who wouldn't want to stay there? Location: The hotel is located in east Amsterdam in the docklands. This area is an up and coming area. There's not much other than a couple of grocery stores, other household stores and a couple of restaurants. Arrival: It's a very simple arrival process. The hotel entrance is very non-descript and could be missed if you're paying attention. There's no place to park your car in front of the hotel except for the street. Bellman: There are no bellmen at the hotel to help you. So be sure you can carry your own luggage. Parking: There is a parking garage separate from the hotel. You have to push the "Lloyd Hotel" button upon entrance for your ticket since they share the garage with other offices in the area. Follow the "Lloyd Hotel" signs all the way down to the end of the garage to park. There's a stairwell that leads up to the ground level and the backside of the hotel across from the restaurant terrace. You have to pay for your parking at the hotel reception. Reception/Front Desk: It's a very small front desk which has two people. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Lobby: The "lobby" area is small, long and narrow with some couches spread out in a couple of areas. You can sit in the restaurant/cafe which is right across the reception. Room: There are 117 rooms which range from 1-5 star rooms and every room is different. We decided to go with a 4-star room and ended up with room 217. The room was long and rectangular at the end of the building. You walked into a small entry room with a table for two and a couch. You then walked into the bathroom and then into the bedroom. View: We had massive grand windows in the bedroom which looked upon a walkway. Bed: There were two twin beds which were pushed together to make a queen. The bed was comfortable. Bathroom: The bathroom was big and simple with a shower which had good pressure, sink and a toilet. Hair dryer: The dryer wasn't very strong. I'm particular about hair dryers because I have a lot of hair. Products: They had their own products and only had two bottles of shampoo and a small bar of soap. If you're staying in a 4-star room you should at least receive the basic toiletries of shower gel, conditioner, q-tips, etc. Closet: There wasn't a traditional closet in the room, but along the wall of the bathroom there were hooks with hangers you could hang your stuff. Safe: There was no safe in the room. Control Panel: N/A. Just a remote for the TV. Minibar: There was no minibar in the room. Mirrors: There were two small mirrors in the bathroom. Housekeeping: Poor. This is where I had the most complaints. 1) They didn't change the sheets and 2) They only have us one bath towel on day two. When I asked for another one they said they ran out, but very rudely said "we gave you one big towel and two small ones" and 3) We had an empty bag of potato chips and they left of on the floor. Wifi: The wifi was free and the speed was ok. Dining: We tried all three meals at the hotel restaurant cafe which were all fine. Please see my separate review of the restaurant. Spa: There was no spa at the hotel. Concierge: There isn't a traditional concierge at the hotel, but reception/front desk is very helpful and can answer any and all questions you may have. Style: The hotel is very quirky and artsy. Pet friendly: Dogs are welcome at no cost. This is the first hotel we've stayed at where our dog wasn't charged a fee. There is no bed, bowls, etc for the dog in the room, but you can't expect that since you don't have to pay. One thing though, dogs are not allowed in the room unattended which is good and bad. Good because your dog is allowed everywhere in the hotel, but bad because you have to find dog friendly places to go (other restaurants, cafes, etc) to on your trip. Luckily if you go to Amsterdam when the weather is good there are plenty of places with outside seating. Service: Overall the service is excellent (minus housekeeping) at the hotel. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Two instances: 1) Robin from reception was not only super helpful with all of our Amsterdam questions, but also found us another bath towel and delivered it personally after I shared the information I received from housekeeping. 2) Ann from the restaurant tracked me down before checking out and found a t-shirt I wanted to purchase from the hotel store when we thought they were sold out. Would I go back? Yes, depending on the price since the pricing of the rooms fluctuate. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, but I do think it depends on your room and whether you're ok with the range of clientele in the hotel.
