The perfect inner city boutique hotel…read more Smack dab in the middle layer of the onion that is Amsterdam's canal riddled geography, the Hendrick's offers an understated sophistication that is wholly inviting and completely comfortable. The staff are exceptionally knowledgeable about the area, restaurants and sightseeing options. They are also convivial and kind. The intimacy of the hotel makes it feel like a bed-and-breakfast, complete with a low key lobby bar and breakfast area. Definitely worth a stay if you're staying in the downtown area of AMS. Especially for ease of travel to and from Schiphol Airport or the central train station (a short 10-minute walk from the hotel).

The lobby was really sweet, decorated adorably / very cozy. The staff was beyond accommodating and helpful, from the second we got there. Always offering to provide recommendations, make our stay more comfortable, and even offering assistance with recommendations on further travel, beyond our stay in Amsterdam. The rooms were very spacious, cozy, quiet and had many perks like back our shades, chrome-cast on the tv, and a really wonderful shower experience. Would recommend this cute & cozy boutique hotel experience to anyone / everyone I know heading to Amsterdam in the near future & beyond!!!

Housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay. The breakfast buffet was delicious with plenty to choose from, although a bit pricey. The bar was a nice spot to relax, and the staff were very friendly, even if a few of our orders occasionally slipped their minds. One quirk of such a historic building: there's only one elevator, so sometimes you need a little patience! The location is terrific, within easy walking distance of Central Station and convenient for exploring Amsterdam. Definitely a nice treat and a memorable place to stay!

The room had sperm stains on the sheets, hair in the sheets, in the shower, inside the folded robes, and dust absolutely covered the room, so bad that it triggered my asthma. Do not take your business there; they do not value their customers. They would rather lie to make a few dollars than have loyal customers, which explains why there were barely any clients there over the weekend despite the location. The mattresses are old and grainy to the touch like ostrich skin, and there is no protection between the mattress and the top sheet (no bottom sheet). I asked twice for a maid to come clean the room; aside from a sheet change, nothing was done. We still found long black hairs everywhere. When the 2nd maid and the supervisor arrived, they admitted that they do not clean rooms before guests arrive. (I even voice-recorded the conversation as proof; still, the hotel manager ignored it). When I brought it up to the reception, they assured me they would fix the problem; instead, they decided to lie and omit that I had reached out to them regarding the health code violations once I checked out. Again, for your health (especially if you have children or health issues), do not stay here.

Liked the interior decor/design and focus on eco-friendly sustainable practices as well. The staff are super friendly and helpful - they provided a map and made lots of great recommendations regarding restaurants and things to see. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious - has A/C. There is a safe available in the room as well, though there was no fridge. Loved all the snacks they provided, from the gummy bears in the room, to pastries and coffee in the communal area downstairs. They also provided a snack goodie bag on checkout though I forgot to pick mine up when I went back to pick up my stored luggage at the end of the day. Overall, a fantastic stay and would highly recommend!

She made our trip so much better by being so helpful and telling us all about the transit and giving us lists of restaurants, events etc. She was super sweet and has incredible customer service skills! Definitely recommend this hotel.

Rooms at The Hoxton already have plenty of personality, but the corner room we ended up with made…read morethe stay feel even more distinctive. Windows on two sides filled the space with daylight and gave the room a bright, modern feel that worked beautifully with the building's history -- a 1920s structure that's been a workers' home, a youth prison, and a cultural landmark long before becoming a hotel. You can feel those past lives in the proportions, the hallways, and the way no two rooms seem to follow the same blueprint. Even without air conditioning, the room stayed surprisingly comfortable during an oppressively hot stretch. Being northeast‑facing helped, and keeping the windows open (as much as they were able to open -- each one had to be propped with a sock to stay in place) made a real difference. The small Dyson fan in the room also pulled its weight, though it needed to be placed on the table at night to create airflow you could actually feel. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well enough that the heat never became a deal‑breaker. The room itself was spacious and genuinely pleasant to spend time in -- bright, modern, and thoughtfully arranged. The bathroom was generously sized, and the shower felt expansive rather than just "big," with strong water pressure and a rain head that produced a wide, even cascade instead of the weak mist some hotels pass off as a rain shower. There were a few hiccups, most notably that only one elevator was working during our stay. The waits to go up were occasionally longer than ideal, especially during busier times. But service throughout the hotel was warm, and the public spaces had that relaxed, lived‑in Hoxton energy without feeling chaotic. The Eastern Docklands location is quieter than central Amsterdam, which ended up being a plus -- easy tram access when you want it, calmer surroundings when you don't. Overall, it's a memorable four‑star stay: full of character, shaped by the building's history, and made more interesting by the uniqueness of each room. The quirks are real, but so is the charm.

The staff is very friendly and mostly attentive, as you would expect it for a pricey location like that. The breakfast is good but some of the served dishes are bad value for money (e.g. a piece of bread with humus spread, a bush of rocket salad but only some crumbs of goat's cheese). The dinner I had there was good however (see pics).
