Hey Yelpers! I interned at the Walter Baker showroom years ago and this was around the time Myspace was popular and I was still pretty young. Working/ interning for him gave me really tough and thick skin. The employees there were pretty cool but he was a bit nice and a bit mean depending on the day. I can honestly say I learned a lot there though and it was a typical internship. At one point I thought I was Andrea from the devil wears Prada. For example one day I was told to hop in a cab and pick up a garment sample and drop them off and he always made me bring a receipt lol. I remember one time I had to go to the laundromat, remind you it was in the middle of midtown and I asked where was a laundromat and they said "Find one" and I ended up walking all the way down to the west side highway. When I came back I asked "What was the point of washing these new garments" the assistant replied with "We just wanted to see how it would hold up in a washing machine". LoL I remember days of going to starbucks and picking up coffees for everyone, and I remember days of the staff coming back from a weekend at the U.S open with their boyfriends and bragging about how amazing it was as I steamed down garments in the showroom like a peasant and took pictures and archived them for free lol. It was quite an experience and Walter Baker was extremely intimidating at first and a bit arrogant but he definitely cared about the quality of his clothes and was very hands on which I can appreciate. I remember looking at his clothes at the time saying "Wow, these are pretty awesome, too bad I could never wear them" lol I wasn't fat but was top heavy (naturally) and I couldn't fit into not one thing there. I remember a staff member asking the other intern to try on clothes for her because she's "a normal size woman". I was pretty offended but that's the fashion industry back in 2006/2007 and even now. Today I hate fashion, enjoy baking and I'm trying to open a bakery. My fashion degree went to waste but I'm thankful for the experience :) Ps: some may hate Walter Baker but his clothes are pretty phenomenal and gorgeous and I still think he makes pretty awesome biker jackets, and bomber jackets. read more
