First time coming here. Wanted to shop here and grab some necessities for the Thanksgiving holiday that recently passed. Coming here was a bit of a Hassle and on top of it, the parking lot was really dark. This Walmart was a bit run down. It featured strange customers and employees. It was a generally hard store to find certain items, even using the app. Prices were a bit pricey compared to Walmart back home. Overall I would probably pass on this store. read more

Well, I watched several people leave because there weren't any employees available to check out in the garden area. There were employees but they were taking about a lack of help back there. Hello, out of 5 employees only 1 was working and he was outside. I also overheard them say plants are dying and not getting watered due to the watering person only working 1 day a week. read more

I am standing in a checkout line, the day after Christmas, trying to buy some things. every checkout line that is open in this store is reaching into soft lines. the manager of this store is the worst. my dogs food isn't stocked, the sheets I wanted were out of stock, and not one employee on the floor when I needed help. there should be cashier's opening up registers right now. and it's like this every time iv been here. read more

As far as a Walmart goes, I have no idea why this walmart has gotten all these bad reviews on yelp?! The google reviews rate it 4 stars. What the heck? So here I am showing my new local walmart some love. I moved here last year and have been shopping here since. I have never had a problem at this store and the employees have been very nice and have gone out of their way to help me. When you live in a small town, you appreciate the ability to buy things for a good price. It is a awful store. They have three entrance doors, one being at the garden center. That entrance is frequently closed . So people, elderly, handicapped park neat that door to get garden supplies or bird food only to get out of their cars, walk up to that door, and it's locked. I saw a person on crutches do this and it was so hard for that person to get to the other doors so much farther away. When you ask them why doors are so after closed, they say corporate is too cheap to give them more employees. Yet you see there four employees hanging talking to each other doing not too much for long periods of time. Management stinks at this stor. I have to go much farther away to WAynesville just to get curbside pickup during the pandemic. Save yourself the aggravation, just go to WAynesville. Corporate doesn't do anything to fix this stores problems. read more

This is without a doubt the worst Walmart I've ever been in. There today after waiting in line for over twenty minutes even The clerk couldnt get the lady's card to work, finally got it to work. I unload all my stuff over two hundred dollars, card reader wouldn't work. After having me try three times called someone else to help couldn't do, shut register down everyone in line had to move again I had to go to customer service so they could check me out. Thirty minutes later finally out. Like the song you can check in can't check out. Hate this place. If your in a hurry don't go in waste of time. read more

Thank goodness for Walmart! It's the only place in town I can find my favorite foods and brands in one store! Specialty cheeses, Carolina wines, dark imported chocolates, prosciutto, etc. They keep the shelves stocked. There are an abundance of employees to assist you. Their electronics department always has people available to give you technical advice and help you choose the appropriate device or gadget for your needs. Great craft, garden, housewares departments. I rarely leave without finding most everything on my list. read more

It's a Walmart, you'd think you would pretty much know what to expect... but take the worst Walmart you've ever been in and multiply it by about 10. For starters, most people shop at Walmart because they "have everything" for one stop shopping. Not this bad boy. I have never been to this Walmart and been able to get everything on my list. They regularly run out of the types and brands of merchandise that I use - and regular sort of things like shampoo or deodorant. Don't fall in love with a specific type of anything, because the chances of it being in stock more than once are very slim. The store and parking lot are filthy, and the carts aren't collected regularly, so expect your car to get popped by one (it's happened to me several times.) The parking lot is also filled with "pot holes" - why the quotations, you ask? Well, these are not normal pot holes - they are craters that would easily fit an entire compact car. They fix them sometimes, but apparently not very well because they're back within a week or so. Now for the employees... I have met and been helped by a few incredible and friendly employees in this store, so I'm not arguing that they're ALL bad (in fact, some are wonderful!) But the MAJORITY are flippant and annoyed AT BEST. Some are downright hateful! Once, an employee RAN HIS CART FULL OF STOCK MERCHANDISE INTO ME. It hurt. He did not apologize, but instead laughed. WTF. Just last month, a younger employee who was working the self-checkout felt he needed to go on a rant about how "fucking awful" the store is (agree with him on that) and how all the customers are inbred. His tirade was replete with quite a bit of profanity (which honestly doesn't bother ME, but it bothers some folks - maybe those with children in tow), LOUD, and went on for the length of my checkout time - he was still fussing as I left, AND NO ONE dealt with this fellow. Customer service is nonexistent, and professionalism is clearly not part of the store's culture. I actually have SEVERAL MORE stories of ridiculous behavior by employees, but this review is already quite long. I make it a point to keep a distance from most employees, stay out of their way, and NEVER bother them by asking for help - I've only ever been asked BY an employee if I need help one time, in the seven years I've lived here. Which is fine with me, tbh, but isn't that part of their job? Avoid this place like the plague. I only go in when absolutely necessary (and unfortunately, sometimes it is - small town, only place open 24 hours.) I assume management of this store is inept at best, and deviant at worst, because this store is a joke, with shameful behavior by employees, poor selection, and a dangerous parking lot. Just drive the 20 minutes either way to Waynesville or Franklin and spare yourself the nonsense. read more

This Walmart is always out of items. Shelves will be empty in the grocery department, forcing you to choose other brands than you intended to buy. They also never have enough staff at the cash registers. Most times, even on weekends you may stand in line for 10-15 minutes before getting to the cashier. read more

The only thing I don't like about living in Sylva is that I can't avoid Wal-Mart. Every trip feels like it makes me a little dumber and a lot fatter. If you're going there for a particular item it's a safe bet they'll be out of it. "Reorder and restock" do not seem to be very high on the priority list at this store. New release video games? Sorry, not in stock. Looking for Sam's ( Wal-Mart's own brand) cola? Nope, sold out. How about those Wal-Mart exclusive "Great Value" products? More like empty shelves or limited sellections, maybe items sitting there in the wrong place. If you're randomly shopping or just browsing for some bargains you might be in luck. Clearance and bargain areas are easy to find. That's one good thing you can look forward to. It's a 24 hour store so why is the garden center on lockdown until 8 or 9 o'clock? That's actually an emergency exit back there but shopping carts are jammed against the doors to keep anyone from passing through. In case of fire, I guess you burn or die from smoke inhalation. The parking lot is full of potholes. The shopping carts are in disrepair. The main redeeming quality this store has is it's employees. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's too bad they have to work in a run-down store that seems unsupported by its corporate headquarters.main And here's the rub. Despite such a low rating, this Wal-Mart is still way better than the dot-com version. Now that's something that scores a negative five. read more

At first glance, I almost despised this 'mart. The floors depressed me, as they showed use from yesteryear. Then I realized I had to get over myself. That is no biggie, and recycling buildings is great when it goes ideally. Plus, the floors are shiny. The pharmacy area could use some more light. Too dusky for me over there. In general, this location is clean. I thought that this place was well stocked. We found everything we needed, and then some. Our Waynesville Walmart did not have a decent peeler. This one does. And, our Walmart did away with handheld plastic bins. This one still has them. I think that the support of just stopping in for a few items is commendable. This Walmart contains the only employee to ever ask me of his own freewill if I needed help. The other employee that helped us locate an item actually took us right to the item. That is major. Sales are easy to find. There was a rack of clothes right where everyone could see it. It is hard to resist, but easy to pay. A beautiful, boho owl printed shirt was three bucks, a tee was two, another graphic tee with macaroons was a buck, and an atrocious, pale pink, spring dress was the same. Got 'em all. Employees are nice. I liked our cashier. Just make sure to get all your bags, as some cashiers forget to pass you your bags via the spinning bagging carousel. One star has been removed due to an excessive number of patrons of both genders with facial tattoos. That scares me. read more

I try to avoid this store if possible and after my experience today I was reminded why. Placed an order through Walmart app to pick up in store. One item (a 30lb bag of cat litter) wasn't what I wanted. Had to pick it up anyway and was told I had to return it. Walked item to front of store and was told by customer service that it was a Walmart.com order and that I would have to "ship" it back. That's right a 30lb bag of cat litter that was literally just on their shelf would have to be shipped back. Told him it came from their shelf and wasn't shipped to me. He said it didn't matter that the return had to be processed through Walmart.com. Good thing I've got Amazon prime because that will be my go to place from now on if that's how Walmart is going to treat an item that I just picked up from a store. The shipping back will be more than the price of the bag of litter actually was. read more

As far as one stop shopping goes, it is the best thing in this small town. However even that has its limits, with stock that is constantly being replaced or rearranged it is hard to find anything in the store. In many cases the employees I ask have to clue of the location either. They have also been know to completely remove popular items for no reason (such as Tostitos Cheese Pizzas). read more

This is not a super center never has been they had super center on sign but after alot off compliments took it off. This place is not pleasurable to shop at! Shelves are understocked if not empty all togeather. Most of the workers have the do not care attitude very few registers open to cut back on help this leading to stand in line far too long . Understaffed and understocked. This Walmart cannot keep items stocked on the shelf. Their inventory is always lacking and boxes are all over the store making it very messy. This location relies way too much on the self check out and there are almost never any other registers open other than where you can buy cigarettes. They do a lot of business so I am at a loss as to why such a busy store doesn't have staff to maintain it. The store is messy and in need of a revamp. read more

Average wal-mart, the selection is a bit less than what you would find at another wal-mart within a bigger town or city. They have all the basics, which in reality, that is what it for, just the groceries, appliances, and pharmaceutical items. read more

Do not expect to use printable coupons at the Sylva Wal mart. I had several coupons when I got to the register, the girl saw the coupons and started huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf. When she started to ring them only one of them would scan. she said they couldn't take them if they wouldn't scan. I asked why one scanned and the others did not, they all came from the same place. She would not even try to put them in manually.....I would rather go to Ingles and spend a little more money at least they are courteous. read more

Do not agree with other reviews rating this WM 1 star. I needed to buy some outdoor gear (including a tent) and was about a 30 min drive from this Walmart. I almost got discouraged of going there because of the poor ratings! thank God I didn't! I found everything I needed in no time. This wm is just like any other WM supercenter. You will find plenty of stuff with the same issues that you find at any other wm. read more

Don't believe the reviews of the one off problems in this store. I have lived in five different cities all over this great country of our's and I wasn't the biggest Walmart fan because of the customer service. This is by far the best Walmart I have ever shopped at. I would say on average, I shop at this Walmart at least three times a week for groceries and other supplies. The employees at this Walmart overall are fantastic. I used to work for a company called Publix and I thought Walmart's customer service would never be able to compete with their customer service. I was wrong about this Walmart in Sylva NC. The manager has done an amazing job creating a positive culture in this store. That doesn't mean every visit has been perfect, but overall the customer service I have received has been amazing and genuine. The key here is genuine! If only all Walmart's around this country could only have the corporate culture the managers have created at this store. Keep up the good work! read more

This place is the worst store.I've ever had the displeasure of shopping in. The aisle are far too narrow, the employees all have attitudes and management doesn't assist you at all when asked for. If you try to use coupons they tell you that they can't accept them because there is an error in the operating system on that register. I have bought products that were expired and when I tried to return the defective merchandise I was told I couldn't return it. Just all around a terrible store. Half the meat and produce is rotten on the shelves. You're better off getting groceries somewhere else. read more

Called pharmacy on 7/7/13 to refill medicine at 5:40 pm. Was told we would have to be there by 6 pm. We was in line at 6 pm and went to counter after customer in front of us moved and the gentleman said he could not get our medicine, that we would have to talk to pharmacists. We talked to her and she said it was not filled. Why did she not tell us she could not fill it instead of saying be there by 6pm. Very RUDE lady. Her name was Leslie. Store was also out of straight talk phone cards...was told to go to internet and buy it. tried to buy some other stuff but shelves were empty as usual. This store is the WORST! If you want to go to walmart avoid Sylva NC store. Go to Waynesville or Asheville NC stores. They are helpful and FRIENDLY. read more

This Walmart is a complete joke. It is woefully under stocked and what they do stock there is very little variety to chose from. The Walmarts by my parents house are enormous, perfectly stocked, well organized, large selection, and clean. This place is none of that! It is filthy and unorganized. The true tragedy is that because of my work schedule I often am forced to shop here which is the only reason that I do. Avoid this Walmart if you can and only consider it as a matter of absolute last resort. read more
