This is a most unfriendly Ingles. The staff doesn't make eye contact or acknowledge customers. The store is continually out of staples (FairLife milk, eggs, etc) The self checkout software difficult to use if you bring your own bags. The bagging at the staffed registers is not professional. Fruit should not be bagged with cleaning supplies and hot and cold items should not be put in the same bag. It's just too much trouble to shop here. read more

Everything I've bought/attempted to buy from Ingles in Hiawassee that should be fresh including bread, fruit and vegetables is either moldy at the store, or within 24 hours of getting it home. It's especially annoying because of their high prices. It's the only game in town so they charge what they want. When I first moved here, I tried to order a bucket of chicken from there only to be told that they were out of chicken breast. I replied, that's fine, just fill it with what you've got. Her reply was that they aren't allowed to do that. I asked what I could order instead and she informed me that I'd have to buy each piece individually. This Saturday I needed rolls and didn't want to drive all the way in to clayton. I picked up rolls off the rack in Hiawassee. A few hours later I took them out of the package and the bottoms were covered in mold. I realize it's my fault for not checking. It's been a while since I needed to check and I just didn't do it. But at this point I won't go back. Not even in an emergency. read more

Worst Ingles - cannot believe corporate allows it to stay open. Always seems to be in disarray, dirty, stuff out-of-stock. Only go here if I'm desperate otherwise drive to Waynesville for a "good" grocery store (Publix!!). Be sure to check expiry dates they leave old stuff on shelves. read more

When I saw black mold covering the wall of the cooler behind the milk, yesterday became my last trip to the Sylva Ingles. The store may be old, but there are no excuses for failing to keep in clean. I will be driving to Waynesville from this day forth! read more

Good Ingles with a good beer selection. They let you make your own 6-packs here, which is always pretty cool! Polite and friendly staff that went out of their way after 8:30 on a Sunday night to help me fing everything I needed. read more

Such a tired little store with a very limited vegetable section. This store does not need a facelift. It needs to close and a new store should be built. They should care more about their community. read more

A missed opportunity. Jackson County badly needs an excellent grocery store and it seems to me there's some money to be made if they'd update this place. It's ugly, small, and difficult to navigate inside. With that said, there have been some improvements in the last few years (thanks store mgmt): the produce seems to be improving, the beer selection is surprisingly good and the selection of organic foods is small, but growing. If they can ever expand and redo the place, I'd be very pleased (and I'll update my star ratings). read more

Ingles Market - the front of the store - Grocery Near Me - Sylva, North Carolina

Decent size local store but Ingles corporate needs to consider updating this one. Seriously this is the closest one to the University and right next to the high school. Sylva is growing Rapidly and this location is showing its age. Its been the same since the 90's when I went to school at Western and it looks to have been the same since even later. Selection is good and the staff are helpful. Parking lot can be slammed at times but its not that bad if you pay attention. read more

My son and I came to visit my elder son at WCU and picked up dinner and other supplies to make him a home cooked meal because he's a little far to come home on a weekend. My 14 year old said "I don't like the look of this grocery store." I said "it just needs remodeled. Don't judge a book by the cover!" We went inside to find a sparkling clean, well stocked grocery store with lots of interesting variety, but it was a bit dated. This book's cover is well worn, but has great content! I'm a fan of Ingles and really wish they would upgrade the Sylva store like they did the Brown Ave Waynesville Store which is fantastic. I've been there several times and having just moved to Sylva, find that one useful, but disappointing after shopping at several other "super" Ingles. read more

Upon reading the other reviews, I would agree about this store needing an update BUT, I would like to review my personal/employee interaction experience at this location. I will be comparing it to the Ingles that I regularly shop at, which is remodeled and fairly new. The Sylva Ingles Supermarket is by the far the nicest staffed supermarket, actually any corporation business, that I have shopped in years. Ordinarily I pass by employees in my hometown Ingles and only get a greeting if I know them. This store in Sylva was very different. Literally each and every employee readily smiled and spoke to, several offering help if needed. The Sylva Ingles has restored a positive opinion in the youth workforce. The young lady filling many balloons for an event was smiling and happy to help me with my floral purchase. The male employee in fresh produce was glad to answer my questions. The young man in the hot food section spoke to me, smiling, asking how I was today and if I needed any help. An older man, half way up a ladder while stocking shelves, stepped down and asked if I needed help. It was like this throughout this store so I wasn't shocked but still so pleasantly surprised when I got in line with a very sweet young cashier making conversation with the elderly gentleman in front of me. They discussed fresh tomatoes and gardening as the bagger smiled and agreed. I would encourage this young staff to be shadowed by new employees because they definitely know how to making a shopping experience the best! I'm seriously amazed at how nice this staff is. Yes, the store is smaller than most Ingles, its a bit congested at the entrances, and duct tape repairs on the cart handle was pretty gross, but the staff makes me want to drive an extra 25-30 miles AWAY from the Ingles in my location to shop with them! read more

Clean, well stocked, plenty of sales associates and specialty personnel: butchers. You will find what you need here, but the cost is high.

All the surrounding Ingles in the area have been updated, remodeled or torn down and rebuilt except Sylva. Franklin, Hazelwood and Waynesville have all been updated to include Starbucks, deli, salad bar, hot food choices and much more. Sylva's Ingles has half the square footage of the surrounding stores therefore has half the selection. If you want to enjoy everything Ingles has to offer make the drive to Hazelwood otherwise you will be shopping at something that's more like a satellite store. I can't understand why Ingles corporation can't do better for their Sylva customers. read more

I heard about a recall of bread products yesterday, including Ingalls brand(Laura Lynn),BallPark, Nature's Own, and many others. Most were breads, hot dog & hamburger buns. I tried to return a package & was not only refused a refund but was told they knew nothing about a recall. There are over 50 items recalled under 13 brand names sold at Ingalls. The FDA announced this on July 9 and notifications were emailed to affected companies on July 10. I'm concerned that I found out before my local Sylva market. read more

I purchased a pork roast last week and placed it in a freezer bag and froze it as soon as I got home. I put it in the fridge yesterday to defrost it and later noticed a rancid smell. Even though I no longer had the receipt, the manager let me trade it for a new one. Also, the meat dept manager told me to always bring back any item that wasn't perfect. I'm a fan for life. Really wish they would consider updating this store. Unless I travel to Waynesville or Hazelwood Ingles I would rather shop at Sylva Food Lion. Sylva Ingles has very poor selection of products. Produce is far from fresh...Please update this location!!!! read more

I'm a big fan of Ingles. Wish they would expand the one in Sylva, but even as it stands it's the best grocery store in town.
