Today was my last straw with Walmart, I would rather pay a few dollars more than be treated the way Walmart treats their customers. It's been bad for a while. Store shelves are often half empty and there's nothing more fun than trying to dodge the dozens of carts being pushed around for online orders. The employees will block aisles, cut you off with carts and I have never even heard so much as a single "excuse me" from any of them. I tried online ordering but dropped it when I kept getting bad vegetables and dented cans, some with air in them. The one factor that kept me coming back was their automotive center. I'm a single mom, I work a LOT of hours and help be caretaker to a family member with dementia. It has always been a beautiful thing to be able to drop my car off for an oil change and other maintenance on Sundays (my only day off) while I get my grocery shopping done. I tried to do exactly that a few weeks ago. Pulled up around 8:30, was happy to see no other cars waiting and thought, yay! I'll get out of here quick. Oh no! Oil changes are done by appointment only now. Employee didn't offer to schedule a time or anything, just told me they couldn't service my car. Fine: I made an appointment online for 1:30 today. We scrambled to get there on time and pulled up at 1:17 to be the 3rd car in line. The other cars were empty. Then we waited... and waited.. and waited. Nobody came. I sent my family in ahead and waited some more. Nothing! I start wondering: maybe I should park and go check in, there's no signs or anything giving instructions. I walk in and ask to check in. No, says the employee, you must wait in line. I pointed out that I waited and nobody came. His reply was to shrug and advise me that he can't help me, I need to wait, apparently until they deign to realize I'm there. Not going to lie, I was pretty snippy at this point and stated that this is bad service and to cancel the appointment. I start to walk away and the employee sarcastically calls out to have a happy Holiday season (this was not polite folks, he was giving me his version of the middle finger). My temper went volcanic and asked for a manager. The manager apologized and checked my car in. I relaxed and ran to do my shopping because we were already running late. Two hours later, still waiting (an oil change has never taken more than an hour and a half), I receive a text that they have started service on my car. We rang up and wandered back to the automotive center to wait since my daughter wasn't feeling well and we could sit. We get there and I see my car sitting in the parking lot. We sit and wait, and wait. A half hour later, I asked what the eta was and was advised it would be another hour. The older gentleman at the desk at that point was much more polite, but I had enough. Really? It was almost 4 pm. I took my keys and left. The convenience of the auto center was the last thing keeping me as a Walmart customer. No more. I'm calling in late tomorrow to get my oil changed at Grease Monkey, they allow drive ups and my car is past due. I don't know what happened to customer service at Walmart, but life is too expensive to settle for treatment like I received. read more
