While shopping for the basics, Walmart is one of my favorite stores. To be honest, I could live out of Walmart. For the most part, I usually have great experiences while shopping here; however, this particular experience was not one of my favorites. I recently purchased a new home and have been fixing it up for my family to move in. Most of the time I purchase paint at Home Depot, but I decided to give Walmart a try. In the future, Walmart will not be a place I will chose to buy paint.
I looked around the paint area and chose the color I wanted to paint the living room, kitchen, dining room, and hallway. It was pre-made paint called Warm Caramel. They only had two gallons on the shelf and I needed five. I found an associate nearby and asked for assistance. The gentleman was very courteous and asked me to give him just a minute and that he would be back to help me.
I am a mother of three small children, who I happened to have with me on this particular trip. I walked over to the desk located in the paint station and waited very patiently. About thirty minutes had passed before another associate walked by. I stopped her and told her that I needed help and that I had been waiting for a long time. My children were growing restless and irritating me. She walked away and retrieved the gentleman that helped me before. He walked over, apologized, and asked me what I needed help with. I explained to him that I needed five gallons of that particular paint and there was only two. He made three more cans, labeled them accordingly, and I went on my way to finish my shopping.
When I got to the house, I set up the paint. I opened the first can and painted the living room. It turned out beautifully. I opened the second can and painted the dining room, with the same result. The first two cans were the pre-made colors that were on the shelf. When I opened the third can, it was a dark chocolate, but I did not realize this until after I had touched up some of the spots in the living room. I opened the other cans and they were all different colors. It was as if the gentleman had no idea what he was doing.
The advice I would give to Walmart is that if you are going to assign an individual to work in a certain area, you should be sure that they are properly trained. The inconvenience of having to stop mid-day to pack up all of my supplies, clean my brushes, get my children back in the car, so I could go return the wrong colored paint. I not only needed the paint so that I could paint the rest of the rooms, I also needed to get extra to re-paint some of the places that I had attempted to touch up. I was highly disappointed with this visit to a store that I usually love to shop at. I love the prices and the convenience of only needing to go to one store. Going forward, I will continue shopping at Home Depot for my paint and painting supplies. I do not recommend Walmart paint center to anyone. read more
