We were in town with a race team for the NHRA race. We came to Walmart with a BIG list of groceries to feed our team and hospitality guests. First we had to ask a nice lady in the meat department if she could go in the back to see if she had more hamburger patties - and she did! I wish I'd gotten her name. We FILLED 4 carts to the brim. And I mean to the brim!! We started walking to the checkouts and a VERY nice employee asked if we were ready to check out. If we had been at home and walked up to a checkout with that many items, the employees would have dropped their heads and acted like they didn't see us. Not your employee! I think her name was Kylee (spelling?) She was FANTASTIC! I wish she could be my checker EVERY time I go to Walmart. She should train all your checkers!! If you look up a smiley face, you should see her face and name!!! I've attached the top of the receipt in hopes that you can find her and recognize her. THANK YOU, Kylee!!!!! Writing this review because this Walmart needs more love. There hasn't been a review for a while, so here you go. I've had a pretty pleasant experience here, although it smells a little in certain spots of the store. Very nice exterior and remodeled interior, everything is pretty much in stock here and they have an amazing physical media selection. A little lacking on the CDs, but that's what I pretty much expected considering the Starke Walmart doesn't have many either. The electronics section is the biggest one I've seen so far considering I've been to all the Gainesville area Walmarts. This Walmart also has a very good food selection and it's pretty neat. Just don't come to this Walmart when people are getting off of work, though. Would recommend that you go to this store for everything you need, didn't see many workers though, but self checkout was nice. read more

I just needed to pick up one or two things, and while I have been to this Walmart in the past, it is not my regular one since it is on the opposite side of town from where I live. However, it was on the way to a dinner that I was going to from work, so I figured I would stop in and grab what I needed. Situated off of Waldo road in Gainesville, it is not exactly the most obvious Walmart. Approaching from the North, there is no obvious signage on Waldo road, and I was kind of second-guessing myself that I had the right turn-off. Getting into the parking lot is also a bit of a nuisance, but I don't think that is Walmart's fault. The city of Gainesville has been notorious lately of creating restrictions on roads and parking lots that are just... inane. Walking in, I found that this store is really well kept. Aisles are wide (wider than at my store, which is actually newer) and clean, shelves are well stocked, and while the layout is different from what I am used to, it was still easy to navigate. I found what I needed (wasn't in the aisle I expected, but it was still easy enough to find) and on the way over to the registers I picked up a sandwich for the next day as well (it was good!) read more

I REALLY hate this Walmart. I hate Walmart in general, but I REALLY hate this Walmart. This Walmart terrifies me. I've seen fights taking place while the store associates just stand around letting the people fight (although, I wouldn't want them to get into the fray and get hurt but shouldn't someone call the manager and call the police?). I honestly feel like one day this Walmart will be in the newspaper for some of the insane reasons other places have been in the newspapers lately (crazy gunmen anyone?). This Walmart has a lot of issues (besides the fighting customers). The associates really hate being there. You can tell by the zero fraks they give about their customers, the products in the store, the way they treat each other, etc. There are usually only two registers open. The garden center entrance closes at 7pm. The self check-outs are not working or only take cards or aren't open. This Walmart could have helped in a food desert that is the East Side of GNV but all the produce is crap. Most of the bins are empty and what is in the bins is nasty fruit and veg. All bruised and squishy. I never see people working in this area. I rarely see anyone in the deli section, it always has it's lights out - regardless of the time of day. We know that Walmart associates get treated like crap. Since they get treated like crap, they don't feel the need to do more than the bare necessities for their jobs (I know this because I worked at Walmart in college). The store looks like crap. Everybody and everything in this store acts and looks sad and angry. This is a management issue. Not just the store managers either but probably the district managers on up. I don't feel safe in this store. I hate coming here. We go because it's the closest store to our home. But we only go in emergencies. It's a shame that Gainesville treats the east side so shoddily but also that Walmart is okay with that. read more

Decided to give the grocery pickup a try here although we did so warily because Walmart has the worst customer service on the face of the planet. Went for it, sure as hell the order was delayed. My boyfriend is a half hour away with a 4 year old waiting because we don't live near, and there's no description of how long of a delay...anywhere. Like people have time to just wait. The kicker is that I called pickup...no answer...associate line...no answer...customer service...no answer. All called twice while my boyfriend was stranded. The place might as well be abandoned. Boy do I wish Gainesville still had a Kmart and Sears. How can anybody shop here? No really, how? The order pickup process goes something like this: You pay for your order online, never get an email saying it's ready, use Walmart's poorly-designed order tracking site to find out the order has indeed been at the store since the day it was supposed to be ready, go to the store to pick it up, and have Customer Service shoo you away with a "there's nothing I can do unless you got the email saying it's ready" and tell you to take it up with the orange phallus erected in the front of the store. The problem with that is that it has nothing to interface with customers unless you scan a barcode first. At Sears, this system utilizes a touch screen with an actual interface and options, including one to get help from an employee. There is no such thing here; the employees stand as far away as possible to avoid any possible customer interaction. At Kmart, this system is integrated into the normal checkout lines, operated by actual people. Moreover, at those two stores, I've never been left guessing what the status of my order is. I don't have to try to decrypt what it means when it says my in-store pickup order is "delivered" or "delayed-check back later for status update" because it doesn't tell me stupid things like that. It gives meaningful status updates like "on the way to the store" or "at the store, but still being processed for pickup" or "ready for pickup". And they've never just waved me away when I had an issue. My order was supposed to be a gift for someone; the occasion passed, and the pickup date was supposed to be two days ago. Still not so much as a single email about my order since I first ordered it. I will never order anything from Walmart again, nor will I ever shop at this location in the future. *Edit* It has now been a month and I still don't have my order and probably never will. They somehow managed to lose my order IN THE STORE, which probably means they have just as little of a clue as to how to use their pickup gimmick machine as I do. read more

I hate Wal-Mart! I think I always have, but after my last experience my new life goal is to never have to set foot inside another one of these dumps ever again! I visited fairly late last night, but the store advertises being open 24/7. Long story short: there was a shortage of cashiers, an abundance of customers, and absolutely no management. So, urban planner boy that I am, after hearing about all the upgrades and energy saving blah blah about this place, I had to go do a little shopping there. Pros: Cool motion detector lights that come on as you go down the aisles. Lots of skylights so you are not bathing in fluorescent the entire day. Ginormous food section. Open 24 hours. Cons: Ginormous food section. Its still a freaking WalMart. 8 hundred registers, no actual employees at any of them. Actual employees really hard to locate. An epic trek to find anything or anyone. You will park half a mile away from the front door. There is NO WAY anyone could walk to this turkey from anywhere in town. I gave it a shot. It sucks a lot less than the other WalMarts, so it earns its one star - I'd give the rest 0 stars if I could. read more

This is Wal-Mart, it will never be the fanciest place but will almost always do. The store is huge! There is a wide selection of merchandise. This store is a super center so it has a full grocery store too. I go here for my basics and my groceries. There is a wide selection of beauty products to choose from and the prices are right. The electronics are priced reasonably and you can often find some good movies in the $5 bucket. I avoid the clothes only because I think that the quality is no good. The car department is decent, I have bought everything to wash my car there. The Do-It-Yourself section has a pretty good selection of the basic products that are necessary to do simple repairs around the house but don't be surprised if they don't have exactly what you are looking for. The grocery department is a class all it's own. I like the middle of the grocery store. All of the boxed, canned, and bagged food is priced reasonably and the Great Value brand is a very good generic brand. The dairy section is good. There is a good selection and expiration dates are not an issue as long as you check them before purchasing. The meats are not good. I have seen some that are green in color and I would never eat that. I still check every time that I am there to see if there is any good meat. I have found some on rare occasions, that for the price was good. The bakery is another weak spot for Wal-Mart. I have not had good success there ever. Their produce is also not good. I rarely buy my produce here. I have bought some and did like it but recently when I was there I found that most of the containers of strawberries already had mold growing. This is sad since the prices are so low for the produce. The deli counter is decent. Every time I go, the same man is working there. They have Sara Lee, Hormel and Alpine Lace available. There is Butterball turkey too. The checkout is always mayhem. Do not expect to get in and out quickly as quick is not in the Wal-Mart dictionary. I've only been in town a few weeks, but I have spent most of it at Wal-Mart. You think I'm joking. I wish I was. The house Boyfriend and I moved into was not taken care of for the last year or so. I have been dealing with bugs and mold and, ew, maggots. And Wal-Mart has had all the cleaning supplies I need! (smooth transition, right?) But they do. They have a good grocery section. Housewares. All the things one needs to fix up anything one could imagine inside a year long neglected house. I really just turn the hose on the maggots, but I wanted you to truly feel my pain. And with all the time I have spent at the Gainesville Wal-Marts, I feel qualified to say, this is the best Wal-Mart in town. Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart. What does it all come down to? Service! I'm greeted warmly by every employee I pass. Do you know how hard it is to be cheerful in retail constantly? I know. If you haven't lived customer service, you can't truly understand it. But there they are being cheerful and happy, even at 5 in the morning. I'm an early riser. But at 5 in the morning, asking how I am and if I needed help, as if they really wanted to know and help. Vision Center is the best! After dealing with the fancy eyeglass place where my optician works I've decided the Walmart optical center off Waldo Road is way more worthy of my attention and money. The staff at the optical center is friendly and very customer-service oriented; I just went there to see if they could fix my bifocals and five minutes later they were 100% and cleaner than when I brought them in! And the service was free! You just can't beat that type of old-fashioned customer service; they've got my business. read more

OMG what a consistently horrible shopping experience. Been to this location on a few occasions and every time checking out is miserable. The cashiers are slow and will just shut down a register regardless of how many customers are in line. There is NO customer service. The managers ignore complaints about slow check outs and closing of registers when they are busy. They typically never have more than 2 registers open at any given time. All I can say is if you choose to shop there then be prepared to wait. I won't be back. It's a longer drive to Chiefland's Walmart but worth the drive to avoid this store or the other Walmart in Gainesville. read more

If your lucky you might get a finger point to the general area. The store is always a mess and they have boxes all over the floors that sometimes block entire isles. This should be called 'the ghetto Walmart' because that is the general vibe. I would give the one by the FHP station 4 stars. The difference? This Walmart is sloppily stocked and frequently out of stock of certain items, unlike the other Walmart in the NW side of town. Some of the personnel are great, but there are a fair number who are obviously goofing off in the evening hours instead of working. It shows in the shelves that are often missing price tags, out of stock, and in complete disarray. They have like 20 checkout lanes and aren't very good about opening enough at one time. It's convenient for me in terms of proximity to where I live, and it's inconvenient when they happen to be out of what I want and I end up driving halfway across town anyway. read more

I placed an order for delivery between 8-9AM and got notice it was delivered at 8:23 but I had not received anything. Despite specifically requesting to sign for my order the driver, Beau LEFT ALL MY FOOD ON THE PORCH OF A RANDOM NEIGHBOR and left. I call customer service and was promised by the pick up and delivery rep (lady whose name I don't remember) that she would call me once my order was re-pulled, before the second delivery attempt but no call. The next call I get is from William, an Uber driver who was lost. I gave him perfect clear directions - he even said so himself. 10 minutes later no delivery. I can't call him back now because my number is blocked through Uber. So here we are 2.5 hours AFTER my original delivery window and I'm still on hold to get a refund. Stay far far away! The store is now refusing to answer their phones too. read more

This Walmart is not a horrible place by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not fantastic either. It gets the job done- you can usually get in, get the groceries you need with minimum fuss, and get out. The bakery always has a huge selection of donuts, which is great for someone on a budget who needs something in their pantry that's quick to grab on the go for breakfast. They recently added a self-checkout area on the grocery side of the store, which is great if you're just in to buy a few small items. Unfortunately, there are some downsides as well. You'll want to go to Publix or Food Lion or... pretty much anywhere else but here for your produce. Vegetables and fruits at this location are consistently moldy or go moldy within a few days of purchase. If you have too many items for any of the express lanes, be prepared for a long wait at checkout- there are many, many registers in the store, but at any given time only three or four will actually be manned. If you're having a hard time finding something, you'll probably have trouble getting a hold of any employees to help you find it- they seem to sense when help is required and make a point to be everywhere else except where the person who needs help is. I can spend two hours in the store getting groceries and not see one employee until I get to the checkout. The employees are usually friendly enough once you find them, but finding them can be something of a trial. read more
