In an experience that mimics my previous review, but this time with the eye rolling Dymond S. who would not utter a word to me despite my attempt at pleasantries - yet she would stop the transaction to say hello and see how someone (who was obviously a friend) was doing whilst the friend was walking out the door. Then immediately back to ignoring me. She then proceeded to throw my Veuve Clicquot into the same bag as the Tiger Sauce - with nothing but a small paper bag to contain the shards should they have busted against one another. And then without a word or even eye contact, held my receipt out for me to take. What is wrong with this location that their cashiers can't just be decent human beings and employ basic kindness to customers? We're not asking for a parade or to be fawned over, a simple response to a kind hello would suffice. But you choose to be nasty, without provocation, and I just cannot understand why.

I love how they have now settled into this brick and mortar location and expanded the place to offer seating for lunch. They have reusable silverware and a microwave and it's just a lovely spot for a quick afternoon lunch break if you're in the area. I tried the salmon tonight and was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the ingredients were! It's a frozen item and only took two minutes in the microwave to have a yummy meal. Doug made some spicy green beans to go with the dish - what a terrific meal. This made us feel a little better about moving away from our friends and family in NY and starting a new life here in Covington, LA. We ordered tacos (chorizo, al pastor, lengua, camaron and asada) which were all tasty, full of flavor and perfectly spiced. We also ordered the fajitas poblanos that came with a side of tortillas, rice and beans. The mixed protein platter had a perfect char and was too big for us to finish i one sitting. The meal starts with chips and freshly made salsa. Their drinks are huge and they had a variety of agua frescas including tamarindo, pina and jamaica. The tamarindo was great. Their sauces compliment the meal so well and have the perfect spice. The place is family run and you should definitely go support if you live in town or are stopping by.

While the prices are higher than Winn Dixie (which also has high-priced produce compared to Texas), the liquor selection is remarkable. We had fun going down the aisles and checking out the odds and ends. My husband bought a bottle of whiskey, and he can't wait until our next visit to drop in again. I was brought back to my high school days when I would drop in and kill time wandering around the store.

Located in historic Madisonville, Piggly Wiggly is not what you'd call a fancy grocery store. What…read moreit is however, is a great example of a small town grocery. I love old grocery stores. I think it is because they remind me of childhood vacations to Grand Isle where we visited the Safeway before settling in at the camp. That grocery store, like this Piggly Wiggly wasn't fancy, but it made you feel welcome. On this trip I just needed a few items that would have been available at any drug, convenience, or large grocery store. I stopped here because it was on the way home, plus I figured I would enjoy the store and I most certainly did. There are only 4-6 aisles in this store and each is packed with items to maximize space. There is a small produce area, deli and larger liquor area. Apparently Madisonville likes their booze. The produce was fresh and fairly priced, but don't expect the selection you'd find at a larger store. I bought bananas and pears, both of which were devoured by my children soon after bringing them home. I didn't buy any of their meat this trip, but they had a good variety of freshly packaged meat available. They even had frog legs and stuffed chickens available. Speaking of kids, if yours are the rambunctious type, they may bump into things as they twirl to the imaginary music in their heads. I lucked out that mine saved that behavior for the parking lot, but the aisles are somewhat narrow so use caution. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this old style neighborhood grocery. I doubt it will become my regular store, but I will be sure to stop in whenever I'm passing through and need a few items.
