I like that about the area, and this Hannaford's is special in that it's not a super-supermarket. Its just right for the area and as other reviews have said "overflowing" with freshly stocked goods. My favorite is the amount of ORGANIC food they have here. Who needs Whole Foods when you have this great Hannaford store? All employees are friendly, helpful, and more polite than you'll find closer to Albany. Being a retired customer service administrator, I can be your toughest critic. If I say you're good, you're good! Keep up the great work that you all do!

I also like it when Peggy is back in the deli department as she is so helpful, and has turned me on to a couple of good items there. I never thought I'd be buying my cold cuts in Wal-Mart. But here I am every week. I would also like to give props to Jane the beautifully kind woman that works on the register. She's always very happy to see me. And last year when I had a couple of operations, she was always praying for me and checking on me whenever I came back afterwards. I love the prices and everything here. But it's the people that make you stand Head and shoulders above everybody else. I would be remiss if I didn't say thanks to one of your great workers named Ron. Trader Joe's is stepping it up these days especially if you love fresh produce. Much of it is…read moreseasonal. Some of it can be hard to find locally. A few weeks ago, I was surprised to find they were selling fresh lychees. I was skeptical. Lychees for sale and I'm not in Chinatown? They weren't quite ripe yet. I bought one carton. In hindsight, I should have bought at least two. Previously, I've only purchased lychees in any of NYC's Chinatowns and they were usually perfectly ripe or slightly past due. So I gave these new lychees a few days. They ripened and they were delicious. A week later the lychees were all gone but fresh figs were for sale. I haven't eaten figs in years so I snapped some up. There were some super ripe ones in the carton which I ate right away. Others are still ripening so I can enjoy them over time. When I went back a week later, the supply at the store has sold out. The small yellow watermelons were great, too. Now, there are varieties of Rainier or Queen Anne cherries available. They're almost always pricey no matter where you buy them. Trader Joe's gives you a choice. The larger variety costs a dollar more. I went for the smaller ones which were wonderful. I saved a dollar and since they're very ripe I'm going to turn some of them into jam. As always, the staff is friendly and very helpful. It's clean, inviting and well stocked. Growing up around here, you learn that there are two types of people, Price Chopper people and…read moreHannaford people. Both, of course, are supermarkets with a great variety of groceries that you'd expect. Historically, Price Chopper would be the ones with better deals and promotions vs. Hannaford's everyday prices. Before the Fuel AdvantEDGE program where you can save on gas at Sunoco, Price Chopper was the home of promotions where you could earn stamps for free towels or cookware. Today, of course, the world is more complicated with Walmart selling groceries, discount chains like Aldi, and even home delivery options. Through all of that, though, I have to say that I get drawn in by the deals at Price Chopper. Beyond their approach to pricing, I have always encouraged friendly, knowledgeable staff. I will say that when you are looking for niche products, such as Lundburg brand rice, vegan Annie's shells, raw cashews, and Worcestershire sauce without anchovies, that Price Chopper has came up short and I've had to drive over to Hannaford. Likewise, their switch from 24 hours to 6am-Midnight a couple years back now means that Walmart is the only option for late night groceries. Still, I know that I can get good grocery deals by shopping the Price Chopper circular and that's what keeps me coming back week after week.
