Great selection when the store is stocked. Unfortunately this place is so busy a lot of times they are out of what you're looking for. This store has become to small for the amount of people that shop here they definitely need to build or squire another location on the east side closer to Puna or build a larger store so the shortages are addressed. This is my first yelp review. F@ck Walmart and their crap VIZIO TVs that prioritize their consumer traps and internet "updates" over the consumer using them. What bullshit!!! What kind of consumer hell is Walmart creating here? I just got up early to catch an exciting World Cup game only to find that my Vizio TV had different plans and thought this morning would be a good time to insist on a OS update for the TV. Atmosphere - Consistent. This location is better run than most! Good size location. Plenty of parking. Open 7 days a week from 6am to 11pm. Service - Good, actually went to the full-service check stand this time as I did not want issues going through the self-service with alcohol. Price - Never check, low price leader! When I signed up with Walmart delivery about a year ago, it was very good ,now it takes 1 or 2 days to get a delivery if I get it at all! I wish I could give it a -5 stars, because that's how bad the service has become and I don't recommend anybody sign up for it!! read more

This review is for the woman working in the electronics section at Walmart tonight. My partner and I were looking for a car adapter, and I walked up very politely to ask for help. She was finishing up with another customer who was already gathering their things and clearly wrapping up, so it's not like I interrupted anything or barged in. I said, "Hey, do you mind helping me with something?" and she just looked at me. Completely blank expression. No words. No "one moment." Just... staring. It went on for a solid few seconds that felt like forever, and I'm standing there thinking, what am I supposed to do here? Then, after that painfully awkward silence, she finally raises her hand and gestures like, "What?" So I show her what I'm looking for, and all she says is, "Probably in automotive." That's it. No effort, no direction, no offer to help me find it, just "probably in automotive" followed by more staring. The energy was honestly crazy. Like, if you're having a bad day, fine, we all do. But the least you could do is act like you don't despise being spoken to. I wasn't rude, I wasn't demanding -- I was just asking a simple question. The whole thing was so uncomfortable and unnecessarily hostile for no reason. If being polite to customers feels like too much, maybe working in customer service isn't the move. read more

Store is cluttered and yet shelves are often empty. Out of so many products! Produce is old and shriveled and brown. Aisles are so narrow 2 people cannot pass with carts. Instore shoppers for online shoppers block the aisles and are very rude. Stockers are roaming the aisles also during peak shopping hours instead of night time shelf stocking as would make sense. My aunt went to the fitting room to try on some clothes and the lady "Tasha" just said,"Go!" to my aunt, to try the clothes on. Wow!! While the selection for the food in this store is a bit lacking in the frozen department, the bananas were only $1/lb. Good parking lot, self checkout, McDonald's inside. The walmart brand items were not as plentiful, but they had many brand named ones for decent prices. read more

DECEPTIVE MARKETING PRACTICE! I was looking up the cost of an item I bought and discovered that I had been charged unadvertised fees: one for $6.99 and another for $4.98. My purchase was for $34.91. I googled Walmart fees and learned that they have a pickup fee--we went in to get it because we had parked in a pickup location that a sign directed us to. (Another store?) On the webpage it shows two fees with vague descriptions. No where on their site are you warned about these fees! Google shows Walmart having a pickup fee, Walmart website does not. I usually pickup from Target: no fees and you are warned how much more you need to buy to avoid a fee. read more

Over 12 handicapped parking spots is great, but 1 cart is unacceptable and no one seems to care (employees) also NO assurance for those of us who are disabled or elderly to our vehicle. Because they don't allow us to take the carts to our vehicle, let alone out of the building. How are we expected to get our purchased items to our vehicle? Again, staff doesn't care about the kapuna at all! Okay it's a Walmart I live in Los Angeles and it seemed just like the one in my neighborhood. Except the flower area had much better assortments. The layout is the same as the one in my area. I came only for an ice chest and some frozen water nuggets (ice). They had a good one for 5 bucks and another one that was SLIGHTLY larger for like 12.50 but it said, "made in Hawaii for Hawaiians" I could not convince myself that that was worth the additional seven dollars. Walmart is Walmart. They are basically laid out the same wherever you go. This one is no exception. This is a very very busy location! They have plenty of parking but finding a spot can be challenging during busy times. The store itself is just another Walmart. Nothing spectacular. They have a decent enough selection of Hawaii souvenirs. They have a large selection of macadamia nuts. All different flavors. Even cases of them for shipping. Some of their grocery prices are much more expensive than Safeway. I would actually recommend Safeway for groceries and gas. read more

Located across the street from the Hilo mall this is a smaller Walmart location. They do a pretty good job of keeping merchandise in stock but it is an island so you may not always find exactly what you are looking for. This location sells Walmart basic items and some grocery items. PRO: What Walmart does well on the islands is this souvenirs shop. Here you will find the best prices on Moana loa and Hawaiian Host chocolates and other island trinkets. There is a pretty good selection on plus sizes for women. Walmart is Walmart - which makes it a convenient place to pick up groceries and other basic needs wherever you are in the US. We live on Oahu, so the Walmart there (Keeaumoku) is usually exceptionally busy and, being in a big city, most of the time it was out of stock of most everything. In comparison, we found the Walmart here, in Hilo, was very well-stocked and very organized. My mother and wife also said that the restrooms were also very clean. Very rude fitting room lady today. We went on a birthday/school shopping spree for my kids and started it off happy and excited. All that came to an end when we went to try on some clothes. Walked up, she had her back to us so I said,"excuse me" and the phone rang so before I could even ask to try on the clothes, she answered the phone. No worries, I waited. As soon as she hung up, someone walked next to me waiting in line, she passed me to help them to a fitting room. Even they noticed she overlooked me but I told them its fine, ill be next. (No one else was in line) and thats when the phone rang again. I asked her if we could try on our clothes and told her the number of items but she said "hang on" and didn't even look at me when she made she darted for the phone. Again, no worries, maybe she's in a bad mood because she's busy? So when she finally got off this call that seemed to take forever, she had no choice but to help me. She seemed upset that I had too many items and just kinda threw it all down. I technically had 7, i thought it was 6 because I wasnt counting the 2nd sports bra on the same hanger. Turns out you can only take 6 items. I said, "its fine, ill only take the 6" and she finally let us go in. At this point, our happy shopping experience turned into a total stressed one. She had me wondering what I could have done to offend her? Anyway, we came out and decided to keep 3 items and put back 3. I asked her if she wanted me to leave the 3 on the cart she had there and she didn't answer but gave me this dirty look and started walking my way. I was actually scared at this point and just set the clothes on the cart and backed away. Thats when she shooed me away and told me "your done here." I walked away completely shocked that she would treat a customer like that. I did nothing to deserve it and ended up totally stressed out trying clothes on with my kids. I dont know the name of this lady but she was older and there around 4ish. I can handle a rude comment or 2 but this lady was intimidating and should not have been working with customers today. read more

Okay so not my idea to come here but it was BRILLIANT!!! In Japan they have a custom called "omiyage" which means whenever you leave your hometown or home... you need to buy people in your family, friends and co-workers gift to say Thank You for allowing me to go on my mini vacay and to show a little respect and so you can feel slightly better about yourself. So... a family friend said we MUST go to Walmart... um I wasn't going to say NO... so $120 later I had bought enough Spicy Spam for my co-workers... approx. 20 people, exotic teas, and more exotic seeds for plumeria, hibiscus and fruits that are usually not allowed on the plane... they are ok if they are purchased in these specific baggies... totally stoked!!! Walmart sucks for so many reasons but when you are vacationing and you want to buy affordable gifts... it is really one of the best places to hit up. To many bad experiences at Hilo Walmart with customers being rude and inconsiderate towards each other while getting their carts. Customers are stealing carts away from each other and their are no employees around to supervise the customers. The store has no excuses not to give an employee the responsibility to give out carts to their customers like they used to. There are enough employees to help customers because we see employees standing around talking to each other instead of working. Most times there are too many customers in one aisle and no room to keep a good amount of distance from each other. Especially when it is busy and the employees are stocking shelves instead of offering to help the customers. How can customers abide by the pandemic rules, if the employees are not helping their customers enough, to make sure they can keep a low number of customers in the aisle they are working in? read more

The place is almost always packed. if you can find a parking spot up close to the door you are quite lucky. parking is always stressful here... Kids running around, old people walking slowly. what to buy. I do about 80-100% of my souvenir / gift shopping here, its literally the same product as anywhere else but wayyy cheaper, hawaiian grown mac nut snacks & desserts. Oriental food and snacks(Pocky!) are all here and the cheapest I have found anywhere. Kona Coffee? you bet, and a ton cheaper then going to any 'kona coffee' stores.
