    TJ Maxx Hilo

Absolutely gorgeous TJ Maxx. Congratulations Hilo. This store is larger than the Honolulu location with a huge selection of items. The store is super clean. I was elated to see the better brands for active such as Under Armor, Nike, and Balance Yoga. This has to be the nicest TJ Maxx on the islands. I've been to them all. Excellent shopping spot for visitors to pick up needed clothing if you forgot to bring something.

This is the BEST TJ Maxx ever!!! If you live in Hilo, I don't think you understand how good you have it! The TJ Maxx on Oahu where I live feels very picked over and this Hilo location is packed full of great merchandise. I saw so many homegoods I would have loved to have purchased, but ugh, there's no way I'm going to lug it all the way back with me. My daughter and I spent an hour perusing through their toys and found a super cute mermaid onesie and an FAO Schwartz robe and nail polish box set. So cute and she adores her onesie which is keeping her warm during those cold Volcano nights! Workers are very friendly and the store was well organized. Definitely worth checking out if you love deals and a great selection!

    Adorable Pop-up Mother's Day cards!

I am so overjoyed that this store has come to Hilo. There is a great selection of home and women's. However, the men's department is quite small. Also, many of the employees still seem untrained, and a few are borderline rude. I was in the candle isle smelling candles (not making any kind of mess, and putting them right back where I got them and an employee was full on giving me stink eye!) I am hopping that they weed out the off-putting employees and keep the good ones. All of the cashiers were friendly.

    Opening day!

Ask the Community - TJ Maxx

Do theyhave any furniture/baskets/kitchen gear/plant pots or mostly clothing?

They have a good amount of household stuff, but I find that Ross across the way has far more selection of those types of things including furniture. Ross, Marshall's and TJ max are all owned by the same people so that's why they're all very similar… Read more

Whenever I'm in Hilo, I would come to this little strip mall called - "Hilo Shopping Center", just for two reasons - 1. Lanky's Pastries..........this is my all time favorite local bakery in Hilo. As I always would come here for their Cream Buns, Glazed Donuts, & Monkey Bread. 2. First Hawaiian Bank (Hilo Branch), as this is my customer...........it's just like I get paid to visit my friends, and while I'm at the bank, it just so happen for me that I have to fix something for them (while I'm visiting). :D Aside from these two businesses, I've seen a lot of business come & go from this little strip mall. On my recent visit this past Friday, I was pretty shocked at how empty the mall looked like when I took a quick stroll inside of the mall. Established back in 1961, the Hilo Shopping Center was the 1st shopping center on the Big Island, and from looking at the strip mall directory, they currently have the following businesses listed here - 1. First Hawaiian Bank (Hilo Branch) 2. Lanky's Pastries - I went here on Friday (12-4-2020), and they were closed. I hope they didn't close down permanently??? 3. Island Naturals Market & Deli 4. Kamana Kitchen 5. LV Tech 6. Optical Dispensers 7. CVS Longs Pharmacy 8. ACR Dollar 9. Restaurant Miwa 10. Sole Comfort 11. The Orient Connection 12. Diva's Boutique 13. Liberty Tax 14. Jin Ju Hair Salon 29. Institute of Acupuncture 30. Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant I'm not sure if all these businesses are still in business, as the mall sure looked pretty empty. Of course we are in the middle of a pandemic, so I'm not sure if a few businesses had to closed down for now, until safer times. I am hoping my beloved Lankys Pastries will reopen one day.........I kid you not gang, I actually stopped by Lankys (2) times on Friday!!! I first came by Lankys Pastries around 6:45 AM, but when I saw it was closed, I was thinking maybe I had come here too early in the morning, and that they had not opened up yet. Then later that afternoon, around 1:00 PM I swing by Lankys again after leaving K's Drive In, thinking I'd stop by for my Cream Bun fix. This time after parking & getting out of my rental car & walking up to the bakery...........the bakery was closed, but the bakery items/shelves were still in there. Please pray with my that Lankys is just closed for a short time, and not permanently........Aiyah! (Sad Panda Face!)..............

I first started shopping here in 2005 when I was living in Keaau but I keep going back whenever I'm in town. Now granted if you show up when a cruise ship is in town then definitely things will get sparse but the brands and things they carry in here are the BEST. Of course like every store, especially BARGAIN stores, it's gonna have it's good days and bad days but luckily for me, the Ross angels always smile upon me and I find the coolest stuff. For those who don't know, here's some tips about this store: - You need to take some time in here to go through everything. That's when you find the killer stuff. I've gotten Via Spiga shoes for $8, Armani pants for $5, guess jeans for $1, Calvin Klein sweater/shrug for $6 and lots of other brand names you see in Nordstroms sold here. -You have to go with no particular items in mind. If you came here with a specific item in mind that you want, you'll probably be disappointed, but if you just come and let the spirit guide you, you're gonna find some great things. Just recently, I got my sister a $250 Speedo Parka (the kind swimmers wear at meets and/or you wear at a football game on the mainland) for $15. She's been wanting this too and how random is that I found it here?!? -I found that the non-island essentials are the cheapest; long sleeve Ralph Lauren polo shirts, leather jackets, sweaters, suits, etc. I've noticed that it's the super high end brand names in winter/cold weather styles is what's plentiful and cheapest here. Slippers, jean shorts, tanks and bathing suits are never gonna be on sale here and are usually the tourists/locals first choice items so you might find yourself better off at a Macy's 1 day sale for price and selection. At any rate, Ross ain't for everybody and it's definitely not a Macy's or Neiman Marcus, but it's clean and friendly enough. It's a bargain hunters playground!

The Prince Kuhio Plaza has been the main shopping complex on the eastside of the big island which provides - restaurants/food court, banking services, dental services, veterinarian services, shopping, and entertainment for all of the Hawaii community, & visitors abroad. Situated in Hilo town, you can find this mall just about a 3.7 miles away from the Hilo International Airport. I haven't been to Prince Kuhio Plaza in ages, as I had stopped commuting to the Big Island on a regular basis, but when I did finally come to this complex for work recently, I noticed a few changes in the vendors at this shopping complex, for instance Sears is no longer here, and a TJ Maxx took over a very large portion of the shopping complex. For a list of vendors at the Prince Kuhio Plaza, check out this link - https://www.princekuhioplaza.com/en/visit/ As a bonus, directly across the street from this mall, you will also see Walmart, a Ross Dress for Less, Office Depot, Target, Safeway, Home Depot, and a few other vendors who provide food & banking services. The mall is clean & well kept, this used to be one of my favorite spots to go to watch movies, whenever I had to stay overnight in Hilo. Of course one cannot compare this mall to like Ala Moana Shopping Center on Oahu, but at least the big island has a pretty good mall that provides many types of services for the big island community.
