The largest indoor mall on the big island since 1985........ The Prince Kuhio Plaza has been the main shopping complex on the eastside of the big island which provides - restaurants/food court, banking services, dental services, veterinarian services, shopping, and entertainment for all of the Hawaii community, & visitors abroad. Situated in Hilo town, you can find this mall just about a 3.7 miles away from the Hilo International Airport. I haven't been to Prince Kuhio Plaza in ages, as I had stopped commuting to the Big Island on a regular basis, but when I did finally come to this complex for work recently, I noticed a few changes in the vendors at this shopping complex, for instance Sears is no longer here, and a TJ Maxx took over a very large portion of the shopping complex. Security whistled at us by the Garfield/space kids playing area next to macys and very rudely told me and my granddaughter that we could not go on them and quote on quote said "your not 5 are you? There made for 5 and below" and proceeded to laugh sarcastically under his breath 2 out of 5 stars would not recommend interacting with them other wise the stores are good apart from Claire's where the worker gave us stank eye when we walked in. read more

This was my first time to Hilo since 2002. I came here because there was a lot of craft vendors for the Merry Monarch Festival. I really enjoyed all of the stores they had to offer although there wasn't very many places to eat I would still be a returning customer the next time that I am in town. read more

I wish the mall was a little larger and the variety was greater, especially for local style stores. I would appreciate local artists, vendors and designers to be available at this mall. There are few Hawaiian and Polynesian style vendors but not enough. There is plenty of parking space, a few outside stores including a Starbucks. I mean what can I say you have your typical: movie theater, food court, kids entertainment area, Macy's, I believe there is a Sears, Tj Maxx, etc. There is also an Ihop and the Social Security Administration is here. read more

I had not been in Price Kuhio Plaza until my most recent visit to the Big Island of Hawai'i and the Hilo side. This is an enclosed mall and has pretty much all the mainstream and local shops you would expect to find. Had to cancel our pics at Santa Magic at the Prince Kuhio mall because an immediate family member was exposed to COVID and will be quarantined for 10 days. Sadly, I paid in advance for my reservation. Santa Magic doesn't refund money unless you cancel your appointment 72 hours in advance. I tried to call them as soon as I found out. There is NO phone number. I tried texting. It just shares the bar code to get the picture. I have tried emailing. I'm sure I'll get a sorry you didn't follow the rules reply. Excuse me but why didn't your policies and procedures adapt to the pandemic??? Why penalize responsible customers? I thought for sure I'd snicker at this mall's tenant list and interior, but, I was pleasantly surprised after a recent visit! Insert foot in mouth I did... I'm pretty sure my positive response is in part due to the fact that the Prince Kuhio is managed by General Growth Properties, the same owner and management company as Hawaii's infamous and lucrative Ala Moana Center on Oahu. To me, a GGP-managed mall looks great and has a strong tenant list. They've even brought over the Big Island's first Zippy's restaurant. Comparing the Prince Kuhio to my hometown mall, Queen Kaahumanu Center on Maui, I think the Prince Kuhio has an advantage for several reasons. First off, PK has all the stores Maui has, only they're all in one area and not spread all over town. Secondly, there are some stores still in business here that closed long ago on my rock. Thirdly, the mall is enclosed, so shopping is always comfortable. Also, parking is plentiful and highway access is easy. The only weak point would be their food court which consisted of about just 3 eateries. Their Sports Authority spot was still empty and the PacSun store was closing up shop, but the vacancies were less than on Maui. It's not new, modern, or big, but it serves its purpose well. My hubby had a work meeting, so my daughter and I spent a few hours hanging out at Prince Kuhio Plaza. It's Hilo, so I wasn't expecting a super high end experience, but my daughter and I still had a great time together. We entered the mall through Macy's and weaved our way into the main mall area to see what stores they had. It's a fairly mainstream assortment of stores with Old Navy, Zales, Claire's, American Eagle Outfitters and quite a few tenant vacancies. There's the odd addition of an indoor bounce house play area, virtual reality pods and of course, everyone's favorite tacky mall attraction... public massage chairs. We decided to grab a snack of fries and frozen lemonade from Hot Dog On A Stick, and I purchased 15 minutes in heaven on a massage chair for my 8-year old daughter for $5. We headed to the Icing store to look at their array of hair accessories and after a heated argument about how many scrunchies means "too many scrunchies," we walked over to Petco. We talked about the dog we would one day own and then I spent ten minutes explaining repeatedly why it wasn't a good idea to buy live fish, because we live on the island of Oahu. Then we went to TJ Maxx and bought a mermaid onesie and a teal robe and nail polish. Yes, my daughter is bougie beyond comprehension. Overall it was an awesome day together and we'll definitely return for a movie date this weekend. Oh and of course, more massage chair time.. read more

This a shopping center in Hilo. They have Macy's, Sears, TJ Maxx, I Hop, Zippy's, Old Navy, Cinnabon, Aunt Annie, Hot Dog on a Stick and etc. There are tons of massage chairs in the center of the walkway. 808 Bounce is an area for kids to burn off their energy. There is one nail salon that was packed the moment the mall opened. Food options are minimal. There was a place that serve Korean fast food, gyros, pizza and Chinese good. This mall is across from Walmart, Ross and Office Max. Overall, I'm glad there is a mall in Hilo for residents and tourist to enjoy. read more

The Prince Kuhio Plaza is a single-level indoor shopping center located in Hilo, Hawaii, which I believe is the largest enclosed mall on the island of Hawaii. Over the years some of the Plaza's tenants have moved in or out with the times, but basically the Mall is pulled together by a handful of anchor stores including Macy's, Sports Authority, Sears and Longs Drugs located in an outlying building. The Prince Kuhio Stadium Cinemas also seems to bring in a lot of business to the Mall. This Mall has a handful of merchants. Some of the local favorites seem to include American Eagle, Hallmark, Famous Footwear, Longs Drugs, Macy's and Sports Authority. They now even have a Zippy's restaurant, which opened earlier this month that should definitely bring even more people to the Mall. It's a great option for the residents of Hilo to indulge in rather than having to fly to Honolulu to get their Mall fixes taken cared of. read more

During my trip to Hilo, I was searching for any sort of mall establishment and I finally found one! My friend told me this was pretty much the only "mall" they had, so I wanted to see what it was like compared to Ala Moana since I live on Oahu. I wasn't expecting it to be grand or anything, but it had some pretty good tenants and stores while I was strolling through. Amongst them, I saw familiar stores such as American Eagle, Jeans Warehouse, and Zumiez. They also had the major department stores like Macy's and Sears...along with a movie theater. I actually got a chance to eat at Sunlight Express. We checked out the food court, but none of the food selections were to our liking. I remember getting a plate lunch combo with garlic shrimp and steak, yes steak again. I think all I ate was steak in Hilo (refer to past reviews). Anyways, it wasn't L&L quality, but it was good, I'll have to say. The environment was a lot nicer than I thought it would be too. read more

Sears. + Movies + Jeans Warehouse + Big Island Surf + Hot Topics + Claire's + Pac Sun Stopped by here the other day while visiting the island... This place has come a long way... when I worked in the mall 9 years ago... it wasn't that great... but fast foward to 2009... PKP is doing better. I hope in the next years to come... there will be more selection and stores popping up. Tons of free parking... If you're on the Big Island... PKP is your best place to shop! read more

The mall has an old style feel to it. More laidback and smaller than other malls. We came here during the Merrie Monarch Festival when vendors showcase the latest in Hawaiian fashion and jewelry. Hilo is a small laid back town on the eastern side of the big island of Hawaii. I got a chance to come to basically hang out in Hilo's biggest mall. Just might be their only mall. I had been to the Prince Kuhio Plaza shopping center before on previous trips to Hilo. This time around in my last trip in March 2018, it was basically have lunch here in the shopping plaza and do a movie at the theaters while passing the time here on the island. The shopping mall itself is fairly large and reminds me of Pearlridge shopping center on Oahu's central side or Windward Mall on Oahu's northeast side. I didn't realize that this was Hilo's mega mall that is basically an indoor mall that has a small little food court and many other shops. You can do all of your shopping needs here, as well as dining, and just relax here as well. The Regal theaters here remind me of those basic movie theaters back in the 1990's before the whole thing of IMAX and the entire thing. For the most part though, you're in good hands here at the Prince Kuhio plaza, where you can get anything and everything done here in about 2 hours or so. It was nice to see local people hanging out with their kids and that's what makes me happy. Shopping malls are a wealth of happiness - including the happiness that comes with eating and dining. That's always fun too at Prince Kuhio plaza here in Hilo, HI. The overall experience here at the Prince Kuhio plaza shopping center was very nice and welcoming. While there was fluid air conditioning emanating from all parts of the indoor areas of the shopping center, it wasn't as strong as I thought it would be. This shopping center has it all, including the Starbucks, Burger King, KFC, and the Panda Express nearby. The shopping center doesn't have much places to sit down to catch your breath or to just hang out, but there are plenty of places to meet up with friends and family. The place is kept clean daily by the mall's maintenance staff, so that's a good basic thing. I do like the fact that the main part of the shopping center is walkable - the part with the theaters, but I think the part with the Burger King and other merchants are connected to the Prince Kuhio plaza. Correct me if I am wrong. Most, if not all of them, accept credit cards, which is always a good thing. In this day and age, it's a challenge not to have one and be efficient at life. The Prince Kuhio Plaza is located at 111 East Puainako Street in the south end of Hilo town. The parking here is plentiful, but like any commercial center, it can be hard to come by during peak shopping times and dining times too. Best bet is to come here early and do your thing before the crowd shows up. For the most part though, my experience here at the Prince Kuhio plaza can be described as being good yet okay at the same time. It's a place where you can get everything at one place. Not sure if there is a first Hawaiian bank branch here, but I didn't see them at the Prince Kuhio plaza. What a shame though. Having the theaters centralized helped me with planning my day and eventually saw a horror movie that may or may not be good to see. I spent about 4 hours here at Prince Kuhio plaza on a brisk Saturday afternoon and it was good and decent. While Prince Kuhio plaza does not have your stereotypical high end stuff you see on Oahu's Ala Moana Shopping center, best bet is to come here and discover for yourself what works and what's new here in the heart of Hilo town. I wouldn't say that I enjoyed myself here, but it was nice to see new places, even if it's just for a weekend. I know I'll be back, if travels to Hilo permit me to return in the future. Love the hotbed of dining choices and favorite spots here, most notable is Starbucks and Burger King, where I had my last meal there on my last trip to Hilo. Went to the mall on a Friday night during the Christmas season. I was shocked that they closed early at 8 pm. WTH is happening? There were only a few people there which was so sad to see. I remember long ago that during the Christmas season, the mall was packed with people and parking was a hassle. There was a festive holiday feeling and this was a fun thing to do at night. But if you go now, there's hardly anyone there. It's so dead. I feel so sorry for the businesses such as the eateries and shops. I am so concerned for Macy's and Zippys. Their days are numbered. Can't imagine how these businesses can afford to pay the rent and the recession hasn't even begun. The people of Hilo have to support these businesses instead of losing their money in Vegas. If they patronize these businesses, they might have a chance to survive and people might have something to show instead of being super depressed on the flight home. Crazy. read more

As the only (enclosed) shopping mall on Hawaii's Big Island, Prince Kuhio Plaza offers a decent variety of national chain stores and anchors. Including Macy's, Sears, Old Navy, American Eagle, Kay Jewelers as well as their lastest addittions: TJ Maxx and Petco. You won't find any high end shops or restaurants, but instead a nice variety of mid tier shops and eateries as well as a small multiplex cinema, typical of a small working-class town like Hilo. Perks include free WiFi (standard at all GGP owned malls), phone charging stations, plenty of seating spread throughout the complex and an overall bright and inviting atmosphere. For tourist getting off the cruise liner or staying on Banyan Drive, expect to drive-shuttle-or Uber as PKP is a pretty decent distance from most tourist destinations, Downtown or the Pier/Airport. read more

Before venturing to the Prince Kuhio Plaza, my friends warned me that it wouldn't be to my liking. Considering I come from Honolulu and generally shop at Ala Moana or Ward, it was a fair warning to make. At the same time, I was pleasantly surprised to come across this little gem. The plaza features a decent selection of local shops along with the national/state chains such as Macys, Sears, Pac Sun and a few other shops. For the size of Hilo, it is a very respectable offering. If you happen to need that certain outfit while you are in town or just have a few hours to kill it is a decent place to stop by...plus they have a Hot Dog on a Stick! read more

Of course I've experienced better! This is probably the BEST shopping area the Big Island has - I know, I've lived here my entire life! BUT, compared to other places, it SUCKS! It's tiny, there's not much in there. :( Oh and by the way . . . It's not even a MALL. It's a PLAZA. There's a tiny food court with not much food. Haha. A chinese restaurant, a pizza place, Arby's, Blazin' Steaks (I don't know if it's still there), McDonald's, a Korean BBQ joint, and a Dairy Queen. LAMEEEE! I hardly ever eat in their food court. There's lame stores and lame side kiosks. The only ones that I care for are PacSun, Big Island Surf, and Macy's. (But that's 'cause I'm in my prime.) Visited Price Kuhio Plaza while I was in Hilo this past weekend visiting Grandma! We used to come here every summer as kids to buys toys with the money Grandma would give us for A's on our report cards, so this place has great sentimental value to me. I miss places like K-B Toys and Radio Shack from my childhood, but I like all of the new places that have sprung up over the years, like Macy's, Pac Sun, Journeys, and the smaller startup kiosks and shops like Bolo Graphics. Always gotta have some Hot Dog on a Stick and Cinnabons too! The mall is well-maintained and clean and is a pretty fun and central place to hang out in Hilo. Shops don't seem to last long, however, and I've heard it's because management is pretty brutal with the rent. I won't include that last part in my rating since those are just rumors. I know this mall is tiny and doesn't have as many stores as Ala Moana or any other mainland mall, but it's got great basics and is surprisingly bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. It's indoors so definitely a much needed place for Hilo. Been coming here since 1997and IMO, since General Growth has taken over, it's gotten better. They've added a Sports Authority and Zippy's as some anchor tenants and what mall is complete with out a Macy's and (throwback) Sears? That's how I know this is a country mall is because it still has a thriving Sears. These two have been here since I first been coming by. They have some local businesses in there two which is cool coz in Hilo, you want to see some things that are unique to the are, no? So if you want to see the mix of local, tourist and college people watching this is the place to be. Great part about it? It's so close to all the other big box stores (Target, Home Depot, WalMart, Safeway.) The only bummers about this place is that it doesn't have a lot of food choice BUT the ones they do are pretty good, Hot Dog on Stick, Maui Tacos, Zippy's, to name the few. read more

One thing I always do when going to Hilo is hit the mall. Not that I think it's the best place to shop, but it is the only mall on this island. It is a pretty good mall at that too. It has all of the quintessential mall pre-requisites: big box stores (Sears, Macys) stores that make a mall be a mall (Hallmark, Champs Sports, Hot Topic, Spencers, Claires), food court (Korean, Chinese, pizza, and of course Hot Dog on a Stick), and a movie theater. Just about everything you need under one roof to get most of your shopping done for others. A wonderful place for kids, and always the place for early teens to go cruise. We have all been there. Was surprised to see McDonalds and Arbys have pulled out. Kind of a bummer because there is only one Arbys on the island. Not that I like Arbys, but knowing if I want a beef n cheddar, there is only one place to go on a massive island. However, the good thing about the food court is not losing options, but the soon to be added Zippys will be here this summer. Thank God. About time the Big Island got a Zippys! Unfortunately for me, I will have to drive 4 hrs r/t to eat there...but I will, and it will be worth it. The mall is the mall. You know what you are going to find. After a ho-hum visit to Hilo Hatties, the wife and I contemplate getting back on the shuttle and head back to the cruise ship...then we lift our heads and realize "there's a mall! I wonder what a Hawaiian mall is like??? Let's go see!" And why not...right? We enter into Sears and see they have some good deals on flat screen TVs...obviously we can't take a TV back onto the ship (maybe they can ship it to us? But then with shipping the money saving deal would be eaten up by shipping it back to the mainland)...so that was out of the question. We soon enter into the main section of the mall and as expected, it's like any mediocre mall you'd find in most American cities. Small food court...benches for old people to read on...Cell Phone kiosk personnel trying to sell you on a plan...yes, even a Hot Topic and Spencer's Gifts. In all the shopping possibilities that surrounded us, we settled for a visit to Hot Dog On A Stick where we purchased a large lemonade and proceeded to head back to the ship via a free shuttle with exquisite lemonade in hand. This is Hilo, so keep that in mind... Back in the day we used to hang out at the Kaiko'o Mall across the street from Longs. There was the JC Penney's, Zales, Shiigi drug, Ben Franklin, and other small stores. When Prince Kuhio opened up, it was like a slice of the mainland. People from Kona came over to our "Liberty House" (now Macy's) and there were theaters and other chain shops. Not ideal, but Prince Kuhio Mall did manage to put Waiakea Plaza effectively out of business! Head straight for the Big Island Surf Shop, visit the Men's Shop for t-shirts and hats, and for lunch, exit Penney's and head over to Kuhio Grille! read more

The mall is okay but has gone down a bit over the years. The anchor stores left and now only Macy's and Sears are left. The Movie theatre moved in. Some stores have come and gone. The actual physical plant remains in good condition with some minor renovations over the years. With only minor changes I assume that the reason is the lack of support from the community to support other anchors and large scale changes since GGP malls have been expanded in other areas. There has been expansion around the plaza but inside is a bit slow, but in Hilo there are not many venues to choose from. read more

Prince Kuhio Plaza is the only shopping mall in hilo, although their stores are not great they do have some pretty reasonable stores there. To be honest, the plaza needs more stores such as pacsun, pink, brandy Melville. Hardly anyone goes there because there are hardly any stores they like. Therefore the only reason I gave it 3 stars was because of the lack of business there. read more

I can NEVER depend on Prince Kuhio Plaza Mall Security anymore. They have a bad attitude and they do not care about being proactive about the safety of the people. Their excuse is "having no eye witnesses", so there is nothing they can do about the problems occuring in the mall. I've been a victim of the problems that have happened in the mall. In the public restrooms, their locks DO NOT lock. This allows troubled kids to come into the bathrooms, kicking the stall doors in and laughing about hurting the people using the bathroom stalls. I ended up with bruises to my head. The mall security can make sure there is security in the bathrooms at all times, watching to make sure no one gets hurt. Or have a security camera overlooking the bathroom area. They choose NOT to be proactive and create solutions INSTEAD they create more problems for everyone else to have to deal with. I've witnessed problems in the mall on more than one occasion. Kids left unattended and and unsupervised, throwing small but hard balls around the mall area, almost hitting others passing by. This act of bad behavior could be a potential cause of injury if the bystanders get hit or step on the ball and slip. The mall security was standing around doing nothing about it. Another time there was an older kid talking to these younger kids about how he got out of juvenile hall for drug charges and asked them if they want to meet with him somewhere. The mall security was standing 10 feet away from these kids and did not seem to care what was going on around her. I have been a victim of getting stalked around the mall and looked at by strange men. My boyfriend has been bullied by the mall security for wearing a face mask that he needs because he is sensitive to the strong smell that permiates throughout the mall. But, the security does not do anything to those who wear inappropriate attires (very revealing clothing) to the mall. My boyfriend and I are tired of having to deal with so many problems that we have come across, personally and seeing what goes on in and around the mall. We are troubled by what we see because the school bus drops off kids at the mall. It's an unsafe place for kids to be in. In my opinion, the security team and mall management need to step up and be more aware and proactive and take care of the people who shop at Prince Kuhio Plaza. read more

For a city with a small town feel like Hilo, I was actually impressed with Prince Kuhio Plaza. It's a good-sized mall, pretty busy, and they've even got a movie theater in it. They've got a decent Macy's with a good selection of stuff you'd find back on the mainland. Big Island Surf Co. even has a store here. All in all, PKP is a decent mall (when you consider its location). Next time I'm in Hilo, I'll be stopping by here to pick up more souvenirs for the family back in Cali. read more
