I'm reluctant to write this review because it's like telling people about your great shortcut home...so it might not be a shortcut anymore !! Wally and his staff are fantastic and very knowledgeable and they get back to you quickly even when they are super busy...they can handle very complex tax issues and returns including multi-state and business related returns. I highly recommend them-- but don't tell too many people about this firm---please keep Wally and his firm a "secret" so too many people don't steal our shortcut !! read more

I've used Wally for seven years now. My wife uses him now too for her business taxes. I met him in person for our first meeting and recommend you do the same if you can (if not, no biggie, it just helps). Now I just do it all electronically--I send them a bunch of PDFs of my W2, etc., and they email me a work order. I pay them, and then governments pay me (usually). Taxes are about more than saving money. Wally represented me when the IRS screwed something up and got me out of an erroneous $2000 bill that happened after some SNAFU with a retirement account. They answer questions you have about how money works and have good suggestions for saving money in life (not just with taxes). I think Wally pitched the idea of a hacker space to me in 2012 as a way to enjoy hobbies more cheaply. Now they're all over the place and I have one in my basement. read more

Used Wally last year for the first time and my husband and I are using him again this year. Super convenient, seems to know his stuff, great staff, and just seems like a good guy! Although we left the city and moved to the burbs this past summer, we are still going to use him. We found our tax guy. read more

Called yesterday and got an appointment with Wendy today. Couldn't have been more happy with her professionalism and her service. I did a test Turbotax run and Wendy helped me get over a K more then I would have gotten with Turbotax. But the main reason I will come back here every year is how they truly care about each customer. If you are in the Lincoln Park area this place is a must for your tax returns. Very convenient location right of Diversey and Clark Thank you Wendy!!! read more

I just started using Wally to do my business taxes this past year and so far I couldn't have asked for more! The entire staff is super friendly and even though Wally is ridiculously busy and working 18 hour days he still takes the time and is patient enough to sit down and answer my questions and help explain things I don't understand. If you are looking for an affordable accountant that is friendly and will take the stress out of filing taxes for you then I HIGHLY recommend going to see Wally and his excellent staff. read more

I typically do my own taxes, but this year I wanted to get a professional's attention. I actually completed a draft return before I sought Wally's help to confirm I got it right. Wally sent me a tax return with double the required payment. A quick review of the 1040 showed he made two big errors on two separate forms, and I couldn't figure out where he even came up with those numbers. I didn't receive an apology or a "this never happens." The second return he gave me corrected one error, but not the second. Finally, Wally gave me a return that was in the ballpark of the return I drafted before I sought his help. I asked in email for a confirmation that my return was submitted, and I didn't get a response. I called on Apr. 15 and was told by an assistant that my return would be submitted but that I wouldn't get a confirmation of submission. I emailed Wally the next day to follow up, and he wrote back, "I spoke with you yesterday and told you that they were going to be submitted and indeed they were!" The day after that he forwarded me documentation confirming the submission. Why he couldn't just send that instead of a curt and inaccurate (I didn't speak with him) response, I don't know. I admit I sought Wally's help late in the tax season, but if the time pressure was too much, it would have been better to turn me away if he felt he couldn't give my return enough attention. Instead, he did a poor job. read more

I have been doing my taxes here all my working life and must say that Wally and Wendy rock! They are reasonably priced and know their stuff. Most importantly, they remember you and make you feel like family. This is no H & R Block. They are consummate but warm professionals. I would not trust anyone else with my taxes. read more

I used this service for a couple years but I'm finding someone new this year. I did not use Wally, but rather one of his staff. It was fine, but she clearly did not know much about taxes other than filling in the boxes. I told her I was planning to get married the next year, and she gave me some blatantly false information about how this would affect my and my fiance's returns. She also was not aware of media coverage about upcoming changes in the tax law, which is worrisome if that is your industry. In short, I think they are probably just fine if you have easy taxes and it's either this or TurboTax (or god forbid, Jackson Hewitt). But since this year we got married and bought a house, and my husband also sold stock, I'm thinking this is more complicated than this place can handle. read more

I've gotten my taxes done here every year for the past five years and it's always a painless experience especially because I e-file. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Hands down five stars for the following reasons: 1. I used Wally and his team for personal tax services while living in Chicago during 2009 and 2010. Each time they were impressive and their service exceeded my expectations. Clearly worth the money. 2. I was audited by the IRS about 2 weeks ago for the 2010 period. Note, I now live in NYC and have not talked to Wally and/or his team since 2010. However, upon calling Wally he personally handled my IRS inquiry for no charge. Wally made my life easy, a total pro. Go see Wally if you need a tax service. read more

This place is great. I have been doing my taxes here since 2001. The staff is very professional and clearly has a lot of experience in accounting. The price is just marginally higher than the Turbotax so you basically save yourself a couple hours of work. My appointments never been longer than half an hour. Plus you support a local business. read more

Wally is a great guy and very knowledgable. Made an appointment and got right in. Highly recommended!

Poor communication. Communication is of utmost importance for those of us that are not financially literate. In my case it resulted in a very preventable but now big problem. I wish I had done my taxes on my own. read more

Quick responses, reasonable rates, able to make time when more detailed consultation is required, and super friendly staff.

I received a delay on my taxes, but paid some amount to the IRS so decided to go here to finish filing. I talked to one of the tax preparers there, and I was to get one delayed document to her, which I did. This person did call me within a couple of days of my contact to tell me I probably owed nothing, so not to worry about a tax penalty. But did not feel my tax situation was handled with attentiveness nor care to detail. read more
