The last time I called to schedule an appointment I learned that my favorite manager, Matt Talley was promoted and no longer at the Ardmore location. I was bummed and thought this was a sign that I should stop making the drive out to the suburbs for my car needs. I did some research and found a place in the city for my next inspection and oil change. I decided to do some additional reading of Yelp reviews and discovered this place was overpriced and reported to be dishonest. The pricing compared to what I had been paying at PA Tire & Auto was astronomical and that was enough to make the trip out to the suburbs worth it. I am so glad that I changed my mind and ultimately took my car to PA Tire & Auto in Ardmore again. I called to make my appointment and was able to schedule for the next day. They were able to accommodate my need to wait for my car and have even upgraded the seats in the waiting area so I had an easy time getting my work done. During my appointment, I was lucky enough to meet the new manager Bram. He is everything that I have come to know and expect at PA Tire & Auto - friendly, honest, and clear in communicating everything that a customer needs to know about their car. My car passed inspection but I was made aware about the future need for new tires. My tire pressure has been consistently low, so I suspected a leak going into the appointment. Bram explained that it was not urgent, and provided me with an estimate so I could prepare for the cost when the time comes. Another perk that really saved me is that they accept Apple Pay. I was in a rush to leave the city in the morning and completely forgot my wallet. Luckily, this did not end up being an issue. At this point, I can confidently say I will be a loyal PA Tire & Auto customer for life.

So, on the second warm day of spring the car heads up to Lower Merion Tire & Service, FKA United Tire of Ardmore, FKA Goodyear of Ardmore and through all the business name changes it's the same team of quality people working. Kevin recognized me pretty quickly when I called about service, told me they'd get me right in. Steve called, told me what was going on, pointed out a tail light bulb being out and some cruddy looking power steering fluid that we could take care of too, no problem, picked the car back up 4 hours later with ice cold A/C. These people treat their customers well. As I've mentioned in prior business reviews, they regularly service the Patriarch's van and take care of it, replacing four bald tires during an oil change with my permission while he insisted there was nothing wrong with it. When NMT was in the emergency room and we got a flat, they speedily took care of it and told the Reverend to come back and pay because he needed to be with our son. Good people, good pricing, great work. I highly recommend them.

It's rare these days to find good people who do good work on cars. They fixed the problem with my rear brakes & calipers, and didn't try to oversell me (I thought my front brakes needed to be done too). Also, I asked them to finish in a very short window of time because I needed to leave town, and they nailed it. 5 stars for sure. I told her that I just fixed the front brakes and that she probably needs "rear brakes". "Take it to a place near you, I am 300 miles away. She took it to Midas, and they proceeded to tell her she needed pads, rotors, and calipers all the way around. They never asked for the "lug nut lock key and said they needed to cut off all the studs and replace etc...$2900. The lug nut lock was in the glove compartment. I was ready to have a heart attack. I called them and told them (Midas) the front pads and rotors were just replaced. I personally just replaced the front pads and rotors 3 months ago and Midas proceeded to tell me that replacing everything was "recommended. After that, they lowered the price from $2900 to $2200. Really? $2200 to replace rear brakes on a 2008 Honda CRV....(I'm Sick) I could do it myself in a few hours and $200 in parts. I immediately looked for another mechanic in the area (even though I am 300 miles away). I saw Garrett Hill Auto service and called them with my predicament. I had already done the research for the cost of the parts, estimated labor and said to my daughter, "this should be no more than $600. And that is with markup, shipping costs etc....I texted my daughter and said there has to be someone that will give us a fair price. I was ok with even $800 at worst case I called Andrew from Garrett Hill Auto Service and explained my situation. I found him online and it appeared the reviews were from normal people like me. He told me to bring the car to him ASAP and he could look at within a week and that it sounded to him too like the Midas was on a mission to get the best of me. I am not made of money and the car was only worth $3000....for God sake. I called AAA and had car towed to his place from Midas within 2 hours. This was without an estimate but just a hunch that he sounded "Honest". (Thank you AAA) they used K&S towing. My daughter's car was safely at Garrett Hill by 5pm. Its was close, but Garret Hill stayed and waited for my car to be delivered (Thank You Hex), thank You So Much. K&S Towing said they take most vehicles to Garrett Hill and that they were the best. That tells you something and also made me feel better. So Anyway,,,I called Andrew this morning and he said the car was already fixed. Even though he originally told me he should be able to get to it early next week (today being a Friday before a BIG Snow Storm). He told me he would get back to me with the cost later in the day. Let's just say.... Garrett Hill Auto Service took care of me and my college attending daughter and saved me "well over" $1500 from what Midas was going to charge. Next day "Done". Daughter is back on road. My Daughter learned a great lesson. She was thinking that the "big box" stores are cheaper, safer, and better. What she learned is that when you find a small businessman like Andrew that is actually fair, does great work, and cares for us "normal people"...you need to make exceptions to the rule that they teach you in school. Keep these people in your mind, because they take care of us when others simply are looking for the extra $.... I took my car elsewhere the 3rd time and they told me the angle at which they put the brakes on was causing that sound. I heard Kings auto mechanic down the street are good and honest people I would suggest going there. Not to mention everytime I sit in there to wait I hear people calling about mistakes being made to their car like putting too much oil in or problems persisting after multiple trips to this mechanic. The gas operation is separate from the service station. Over time the gas side has changed hands but these excellent mechanics have REMAINED THE SAME GREAT PEOPLE SINCE 1973! Will I be pressured to buy unnecessary stuff? There is a reason why I've been using these folks for 18 years! My car is always ready ON TIME.
