November 21, 2021…read more AWESOME EXPERIENCE with Captain Clement Jardin!! In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves. " and if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again" (christopher cross 1979) For information about this sail...you can reach Captain at this email cjardin@ssbgalveston.org Or Call 409 572 2560 Do it!!!

I believe the goal is to sell it to a group to further sailing education and participation which is really cool. Great staff.

It was awesome that we could see the pictures the wedding party were taking while we were relaxing. They allow pets and the venue is well equipped to handle them. There is lots of shade. The staff is absolutely phenomenal. (The venue gal was running around doing everything- probably more than their hired day of coordinator). They were professional, sweet, and would chat with the guests. Only thing is they have just 2 bathrooms that have to be accessed by stairs. It was so fun to have lawn games and everyone had a nice time.

Went yesterday for brunch and decided to go again today. Glad I did because the second time,…read moreservice was better than the first. Porch Cafe is located on the east side of Beach Town. It's an upscale but relaxed kind of place where casual attire is fine but the food shows up dressed for the occasion. The food was absolutely the star. Yesterday I started with the watermelon salad and my husband had the melon salad with pesto sauce. They were both so good that he ordered the melon salad again today and I ordered the mussels and fries. The mussels were tender and the sauce that comes dressed on the fries, delicious. For my entree I ordered the avocado toast both days because it was just that good. For my husband's entree he ordered the risotto and added shrimp. It was good but he could do without the tomato sauce. And his old fashioned was made just right which for us is always the tell of a serious bar. Thank you, Bartender. Today we were greeted as soon as we walked in but yesterday we stood waiting for someone to greet us. And then we were told it was going to be a 10-15 minute wait for our table. I told her we'll wait because I'm sure it won't take 15 minutes to prepare one of the four empty tables that simply needed cleaning. It took them 2 minutes to seat us. Our dining experience was lovely. On both days we got Brian for our waiter and he was friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent.

We walked in with only three tables filled inside, waited for ten minutes before the hostess came and were told it would be an hour wait. I immediately booked a reservation on the spot that was available in fifteen minutes. We walk back up to the hostess station and had to wait another ten minutes before I could show the hostess my reservation. Despite the reservation, it was clear that they just didn't want to serve us but did so begrudgingly. The staff gave us dirty looks and the service was slow at best which is a shame because the food was quite good. After paying, the hostess apologized and explained it was because they were busy setting up a reserved table for a party in the back. Seems like they could do with more staff if they can't even handle three tables.

I then used the hall phone by elevators to call and request maintenance. After 20 minutes and my calling back maintenance arrived. Very sweet kid, but obviously had not been informed why he was dispatched as he had zero tools with him. He then left and went to find tools to open door and batteries to fix lock. He fixed it quickly once he returned and was very polite. I requested additional bedding as room is freezing and was informed housekeeping had left for the day and I was out of luck. So guess we are freezing. Hotel room is run down and looks strikingly like a hospital room. Based on high dollar price I paid, which was over a holiday weekend, so inflated prices it was a massive let down. I would not recommend based on price point and lobby service. Maintenance gentleman was excellent however.

Unfortunately, I just…read morethink when anyone is spending this amount of money on a venue for a special occasion it should be at least a "good" experience. Although the Roof Garden is an adorable venue on the strand, I would NOT recommend them to anyone. In the beginning it seemed like it was going to be a smooth operation when speaking with Juliet. However, after I sent my deposit it seemed like it was virtually impossible to get anyone to return my calls or emails. You will notice that I made previous posts on FB regarding the lack of response to my attempted contacts to the Roof Garden. There are other Brides that responded to my post with the same issue. I actually had another bride reach out to me via FB instant messenger asking if I was able to get through because her wedding was that upcoming weekend. She too could not get a hold of anyone. This made me incredibly nervous because of how close she was to her wedding and she still could not get through to anyone. As it got close to my wedding my mother-in-law and aunt wanted to go see the venue to figure out how they were going to complete the set up. At this time they had spoken to Juliet who then informed them that going forward, Jessica was going to be our point of contact. My mother-in-law and aunt then set up a time to meet with Jessica at the Roof Garden to review specifics for the layout. At this time they asked Jessica if we could change the set up time from 3pm-6pm to 10am-2pm. Jessica confirmed, stated yes and that she would be there to let them in. We thought all was going to be fine as we communicated with our point of contact "Jessica" specifically on the adjustment of time. The day of the wedding Jessica was not there at 10am as stated and reverted back to the contract saying she doesn't ever recall the conversation that the three of them had. Jessica then came out after conversing with my family to allow them entry. The venue was a complete disaster and not cleaned prior to my family trying to complete the set up for our event. Since we were trying to juggle time and get set up we opted to go ahead and set up over the horrific mess left behind from the previous party. In addition to everything; our event started at 7pm and Jessica did not arrive until after 7pm! This really pissed me off!!! I was getting text messages from my guests that they were outside the venue and could not get in nor was the band that was hired for our party. Everyone was waiting outside until approximately 7:15pm. This is not acceptable!!! I challenge the Roof Garden to try and decline that this happen. I have numerous members from my party that can verify this! My favorite part was that after my event Jessica came in and steadily watched her clock. Really?! You were late opening the front door! My guests and band had to wait for you to arrive late! I am all about supporting local businesses however, when things are handled in such an unprofessional demeanor it needs to be addressed. My family, my guests, and I would NOT recommend Roof Garden or any other facility owned by this family. I am sad that I have to post such a negative review but I don't want anyone else to have to deal with the chaos that we did. We have had many weddings in our very large family and none of them have been this bad of an experience. I recommend that you take your money elsewhere, where communication is important to the business owner and that they value their client/customer care. Unfortunately, this was my wedding experience and I can't change what is already done. I am however able to warn those that are looking for a venue for their celebration and give you feedback on my experience. If I could redo my special day, I would have spent a little more money on a different venue.

When we arrived, he was present but walked off with another customer and had a friend show us the venue. I expressed clear interest and was ready to pay the deposit and half upfront. The friend called Robert, then returned and told me and my fiancé that he "was not interested" in renting to us--no explanation and no direct conversation. As locals to the island, and as a decorated disabled veteran, this experience was especially disappointing. Being dismissed after being ready to commit financially felt unprofessional and disrespectful. The interaction left us feeling judged and not taken seriously as clients. I would not recommend this venue.

But my wife, always with the champagne tastes was not so convinced. We debated this off and on for a couple weeks, and eventually she won out when she discovered a deal on TikTok for the Grand Galvez. TikTok has deals? Apparently. First impressions walking into the lobby: yeah, it's super nice. Quite a bit nicer than the Hyatt Select we were considering. And quieter in this area. The place almost paid for itself when we accessed the private beach. As you walk up, you're greeted with towels, water and covered seating. These things were especially welcomed during our visit when it was approximately 99 degrees with 278% humidity. As others have shared, the rooms are small, but they're not like Japan small. We had a room with two queen beds (maybe they were doubles?), and felt like we had plenty of space for what we needed. Our 7 year old son slept in one bed with my wife and I got a bed to myself. Maybe if you sharing a room with someone you don't want to be sleeping practically right next to, you'll wish you'd booked a different hotel. But this was great for us. Oddly enough for a historical hotel, they have the world's fanciest shower with so many buttons and knobs that it's hard to even figure out what to do. Ultimately, the shower itself was fine. The water got plenty hot and the pressure was solid, even if the angle was a bit weird. The beds were a bit softer than I'm used to, but comfortable. Because this was a short day trip for us, I actually packed my own pillows, so I can't speak much to those. We opted to valet for $40 a day, but there is a public parking garage right next door to the hotel. It's a nice place. Apparently scour TikTok before booking.
