Next level romance!

Delightful in every way is how I would describe the experience my boyfriend and I had staying at this Galveston Island gem. The owners and hosts-with-the-mosts, Jeff and Polly, are kind, fun to talk with, and are incredibly helpful in making your experience a great one. And, as other reviewers have correctly stated, you will be blown away with the care that is put into the home cooked breakfasts each morning. Delicious! Polly also graciously helped coordinate a few surprises from my boyfriend, as well, including flowers one night and chocolate covered strawberries (they were deluxe, let me tell you)& champagne on another. I felt like the luckiest girl, and she definitely helped to make that happen! Staying in a historic home like this was really a special treat, and everything was clean and comfortable. Walking distance to many nearby attractions as well. I highly recommend this lovely B&B for your stay!

I found this place when looking for a dog-friendly place to stay and we were pleasantly surprised with how great our visit was! We were lodged in the Rainforest room and loved the whale tub. There were snacks in our room and throughout the house and breakfast was a medley of fruit, bacon, ham wrapped eggs, a chocolate chip caramel muffin, and coffee. Delicious. Connie was a great host and was very accommodating. We utilized the DVD collection and we (and the dog) loved the lush backyard. One of our favorite things were the two bikes available to use. We cruised all over the island and along the sea wall. There were outdoor showers available to rinse off sand and such after a day at the beach, but Connie was very relaxed in terms of coming in the house with a little sand or water. We loved everything about our stay and will be back!!

This was my first time at Avenue O Bed and Breakfast and I have to say my boyfriend and I had such a delightful time. He and I were trying to find a place where we could get away for a couple of days, but not be to far from home. We were both EXTREMELY grateful that we found this place. Polly and Jeff make you feel like royalty and they cater to your every need. We were greeted with a Wecome Sign, homemade cupcakes and their cute little dog Heidi. The room we chose was the Balinese Room. When you walk into this room you feel the ZEN and tranquillity of mind. There was a lot of thought that went into the decor of this room from it's perfectly matched pieces to the towels, bathrobes, and linens. Everything was of high quality. We both fell in love with the shower. It felt like rain falling upon your skin. The view from our balcony was of their beautiful garden. I could good lost in my daydreams of it's beauty. In the mornings Jeff brewed a fresh pot of coffee from a local vendor in Galveston and it was perfectly matched to the most FABULOUS breakfast that Polly prepared. OMG!! The food was SCRUMPTIOUS!! There was nothing left on either one of our plates. Avenue O is close to the beach, the Strand, Pleasure Pier and great restaurants. My boyfriend and I will be back!! I highly recommend you come here. Thank you, Polly and Jeff for your PHENOMENAL hospitality!!

I have never been to a Bed & Breakfast before. I have heard amazing things about this place and finally got the chance to check out what all the "hype" was about this Avenue O place. I called Polly Jones, (the owner) to reserve a room for a few days at her B&B. She got us in by 8:30a, from driving through the night. That day we were checked in and welcomed with open arms. Our names were in the Welcome to Avenue O frames. We loved seeing our names as soon as we walked in. Jeff and Polly have been the kindest couple from making homemade breakfast to fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies!! Jeff also knew all of the sights to see around town! You will regret it if you don't check out Avenue O during your trip to Galveston!

The whale tub is super relaxing in the rain forest room. Watch out for bruises on your back from the powerful jets though.

Food was great.. quiche, scones with clotted crème and jam; cucumber sandwiches ( a New England favorite in Galveston no less); assorted sweets and upper class teas. This historic bed and breakfast offers a lot on the property. Built hundreds of years ago, The George Manor is a collection of vintage painting, craftsmanship, architecture, and landscaping. The real shining star is the Chef, Michael de Bayer. When I read his bio online, I was already impressed. How could you not be? He's cooked for Tina Turner, Prince, and a number of others that you might recognize. He's one of the most personable chefs I've met and I had a blast talking to him about food, cars, and a bunch of other things. We signed up for the prix fixe dinner service and while we knew it was a 5 course meal, it was a ton of delectable food. Starting with a curry spiced amuse bouche, then a glorious carpaccio and caviar, an über schnitzel with gulf shrimp, red snapper, and two over the top desserts. The shrimp with cassis crème was unique and the Black Forest cake was more than authentic, it was transportational to Germany. Moving to breakfast, Chef Michael makes the BEST bacon. Both the lardon bits from dinner to the strips of breakfast bacon, he's a master for sure. If you're in the area, pay this place a stop and make sure to book dinner, it will be an unforgettable experience.

When he says he'll care of everything, he absolutely means it... Richard is one of a kind! We brought 12 friends down to Galveston and rented the house for the entire weekend... Our crew was absolutely blown away by how much attention to detail was put into every aspect of their stay. Each of the rooms has such a distinct personality, and the charm of the old house is put on full display to shine through. Richard checked in with us a few times during the evening to make sure we had everything we needed. On Saturday morning, breakfast was served and WOW--Logan knows his way around the kitchen. Our friends were so impressed with the food and even requested the recipes of a few items. When we slipped out to enjoy the Strand for a few hours that afternoon, Richard and his team refreshed our rooms. We decided to host a dinner with more guests Saturday evening to celebrate 5 years, and that went off without a hitch. Cocktail hour with the famous Lasker charcuterie board was enjoyed by all, and the barbecue spread for our main course was absolutely delicious! As an added treat, Richard had a miniature version of our original wedding cake for guests to enjoy. It was a hit! Sunday morning breakfast was just as delicious as Saturday's... Logan's famous hangover hash was gobbled up, and the yogurt parfaits hit the spot. We can't say enough about how much we love The Lasker, Richard, and his entire team... Their goal is to make every stay memorable, no matter the occasion, and they flawlessly execute every time.

A Sunday - Monday stay…read more We celebrated Valentine's the first Sunday-Monday in March in hopes of having the Island to ourselves. Instead of staying at the big hotel on The Strand, we decided to try Schaefer Haus. With two homes to select from, we selected what is Room 2 in the main haus. It is beautiful and filled with antique furnishings. Tammy and the rest of the staff are lovely. Tammy filled us in on the Happy Hour and Breakfast details and showed us our room; what is listed as the Freiberg (and now known as the Laura or Room2.) The room is comfortable. The bathroom includes a claw foot tub with shower head. There are three rooms available on the second floor and two on the third. Okay, here we go. (Let me first say, we have every intention of staying here again.) We arrived early. When we were shown our room, Room 1 and 3 were being cleaned and unoccupied. I was delighted at the idea of having the Haus to ourselves. Within an hour, both rooms were filled, as well as the third floor. As sound travels, I quickly realized there were some flaws in privacy. For instance, there is a second door in the bathroom that is right by the toilet. If opened, it would be into the space at the top of the stairs on the second floor shared by the three rooms. There is a gap at the base of the door that you could pass a stack of two magazines under. On the opposite side of the toilet is the window that is used to gain access to the private balcony. Only a sheer black curtain provides coverage from the two houses across the street. After dark, I turned the bathroom lights off and used the romantic amount of light that comes in through that door I was speaking of earlier. The actual bathroom door in no way secures to the door frame. That said, it stayed closed anytime one of us was depending on privacy. Let's talk sound. Around 2AM, Room 1 or 3 decided it was time to listen to some soothing sounds of Trip-House at volume 11. Okay. This did not wake me, but it woke the husband. However, around 3AM, what sounded like a man and woman began screaming violently at one another. This did wake me with deep concern. Ten minutes later - all quiet. We found out after breakfast, the music was coming from Room 1. Lastly, security. There is a tiny knob on Room 2 that acts as a dead bolt. Lock it! At least twice during the night someone vigorously checked our room doorknob as if they were confused about which room was theirs. Monday morning, breakfast was delicious. While there were no mimosas (which are available on Saturday and Sunday,) the quiche was fantastic and the bacon crisp! Coffee, water, juice, and milk were also available. Schaefer Haus should definitely be on your list for a stay on The Strand!

Additionally, the rooms were very kept together and clean. I would recommend the Schaefer Haus to anyone looking for a historic home away from home on the island.
