If Trader Joe's and Whole Foods had a baby, it would be Duckweed Urban Grocery. Duckweed is a…read moreconvenience store, I said, what I said, and it provides Grand Central's urban dwellers with much needed instant access to those needed, desired, mundane things without requiring a miles-long trek to the fringes, or heaven forbid, the suburban areas of St. Pete. Duckweed, unlike its convenience store cousins, is airy, bright, and open, and best of all clean. And it does offer traditional grab and go essentials but, upscale e.g, craving kombucha? vegan snacks? Craft beers from 3 Daughters, Greenbench, or Coppertail? Coffee beans from Bandit? THC seltzers? Duckweed's got you covered, and I love that for Grand Central. As a suburbanite, with access to 7-11s and Publix stores on every corner, I was a bit underwhelmed. But hey, it's not for me. It's for the urbanites - so do you Grand Central, enjoy your funky corner "market".

Next, the product doesn't seem as fresh, maybe business has slacked off and they're not turning the lettuce as quickly. The lettuce use to last for several weeks; I'm lucky today if it last through the weekend...goes bad more quickly. In addition, it appears the staff is not as 'friendly' and helpful. You use to have a lady that would always help me select different lettuces and give me ideas on how to make different dishes using them; she was very insightful, knowledgeable, friendly and have am amazing personality. The employees today (nothing against them, in my world my attitude is a reflection of management...just saying). So, don't know what you're dealing with as a company but if you plan on surviving you need to get your act together. This is the second type. I guess this company doesn't realize that all stores of a chain reflect on all others. But here it is. Obsolete gas pumps, broken up concrete in the parking lot, and decades of ground in dirt on the floor inside that even the most diligent employee equipped with the best Billy Mays miracle cleaner couldn't make look acceptable. Ah, yes, employees. There is huge employee turnover rate. And it's inconvenient to go there late because the doors are often locked and customers have to get their items through a slot. I don't know if this is due to not being able to keep enough employees to have two on third shift or due a conscious decision to inconvenience customers in exchange for saving a few payroll hours at minimum wage. Anyway, if you can't live without that super low priced Polar Pop fountain drink, go a few extra blocks to the Circle K at 5th Avenue North and 34th Street.
