A few days later I was notified that my prescription was ready, BUT IT WAS THE WRONG DRUG! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! I've tried to pick up my medication five different times this week and every time I have spent over half an hour waiting in an unmoving line and every time it is because they lost the medication for the person at the front. The first time I came here they "lost" mine (I watched them run around for 20 minutes while I too then held up the line before they packaged it in front of me) and could not for the life of them understand that my insurance information which after 10 minutes of me reexplaining over and over that finally realized was literally on my account already. After that I told my dr to switch pharmacies but due to a mix up my meds got sent here. Pharmaceutical Hell. At this point I'm just going to have to be off my meds until my next appointment. This Walgreens, at Broadway and McCoy in Santa Maria, was our go to pharmacy for almost 10 years, but for the last 2-3 years it's been a real struggle by phone, online and in person; just an epic battle to get prescriptions filled on time. All of the prescriptions are on auto-refill, and neither the doctor, the medications nor the insurance has changed. The only thing that has changed is the customer service in the Walgreens pharmacy department. My life depends on receiving my prescriptions in a timely manner. Walgreens now seems incapable of doing this and the stress of wondering whether I will be able to get my medications on time, has become too much to bear. The pharmacy always seems to have an excuse as to why they can't fill my prescription; they have run out of what I use or they cancel for mysterious reasons and give no notice, so I have to call and try to track it down. When they do send a notice that they will refill, the excuses follow a few days later as to why they then can't fill on time. Because of the auto refill, one would think that the pharmacy has a heads up that the medication will be needed, but that doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. Life saving prescriptions can't wait 10 days or more past due to be filled. Sorry, Walgreens, I've been very patient but my health has suffered because of this and you can't be counted on any longer. You have become negligent, unreliable and make no effort to improve. read more

Dania i think that's how you spell it has an attitude problem. there's 2 signs 1 for Covid testing sign in and 1 for pickup/drop off. I was in the line for pickup and she rudely tells me that there's only 1 line. how was i supposed to know????? then it's my turn and she asks for my insurance card and i give it. she then barely looks at it and asks for another one because she can't find the number she needs. I told her that's my only card. i have never had issues with this card any other time at walgreens or cvs. she can't find the medication then when she does she gives it to me rudely and says i need to get another insurance card. she's rude and incompetent and inconsiderate. read more

Since my "best" health insurance had forced me a few years ago to switch from CVS to Walgreens [especially for a 90 day supply], I really do not have much choice with chronic Rx. Since I am in Pismo, it is either 1-2 30 mile drives to either their Atascadero or Santa Maria locations. I choose to deal with this location since it is the 24 hr one. Since I have to deal with Optium Rx, CVS, Walgreens, & sometimes Rite Aid, Costco, or Walmart...depending upon ridiculous price differences...I am familiar. The consistent theme is that no one knows, nor will tell you the real prices of meds in general. You can call the insurance, but they claim they do not know the price unless, they run each & every med. Since many meds have numerous, many times cheaper analogs, in that class, there is really no good way to compare. You run the danger that if it is run thru one pharmacy, the other companies pharmacy will not be approved, since the insurance thinks you filled it there. Walgreens is especially ridiculous with their, what you pay without insurance cost vs. with {$1200 vs. $30}. Many a time, you can find much cheaper with the same, or other other doses, generics, or using the GoodRx app. As you can tell with GoodRx or other on line searches, the price difference are extreme. The only good deals are with certain generics via Walmart, which does not charge an annual membership fee. Other $4/mo drug programs are defunct...such as with Target...since crappy CVS took them over. Costco usually has decent prices for generics. I can see Lyrica costing as much as your first born child, but not simple generics that have been around for decades or more. Most Generic companies not only collude & price fix, but get the bargain basement chemicals from unregulated or poorly regulated "FDA" approved companies in China, India, etc.. The BS about how they need higher cost for R&D is mostly nonsense. The worst offenders have used the benefit of R&D by the US Gov...like NIH...& only put out minor variations & again the corrupt FDA grants another 10 yr patent. Heaven help you if you want a generic that is made by only one company or they collude with others. In addition to this there is a chronic contamination problem with Carcinogens being found over & over again in dozens of FDA approve products. The FDA only inspects a fraction of the 3,000+ foreign companies & really have little enforcement power. The recalls appear hear & there in the news, but if you check the FDA recall website, there are hundreds of violations that are only increasing in frequency. As far as, OTC products are concerned, there are frequent reports & studies that show heavy metal contamination, plus Carcinogens. Even most Teas & Herbs from China are contaminated. Organic can be meaningless, since the lead is airborne from clean wonderful coal...or leaded gas emissions. Your PCP, Pharmacist, & others are unlikely to be of much help, since the whole system is close to Chaos. You can only weight the risks vs. the benefits. Is it worth taking a BP med that slightly increases your Cancer risk vs. getting Hypertensive disease of your brain....and early dementia....in terms of my own mother...yes! For reasons only known to her, despite a lifetime of lying to me about compliance, she ultimately did not get Cancer, but did get gradual Dementia. This devastated not only her brain over several years, but ruined or impacted the lives of those she loved. Needless suffering at the end of life. Similar short sighted "logic" is used for various immunizations now, which can negatively impact far more people than just family & friends. While our country pays far more than any other country for health care, in general, we have horrid results. Ironically, only some of the very rich or very poor get regular care....it is questionable if it is any good, since neither are generally educated consumers. As has been going on for decades, people with money to waste, take way too many Placebo's [like B12 shots minus deficiencies]. Anyway, Walgreens also does a horrid job of communication with you, your doc, & your insurance...but then again CVS has gone down the drain. It is not unusual to make multiple visits to the pharmacy, your MD, and make calls to the insurance to find out if they really have the right drug ready. You can call ahead only to find out that they have one med, but not two others. Excuses can range from, the following: we ran out, they do not make that form anymore, we did a partial fill of a few pills, we need to call your doctor again, it is non-formulary, the insurance denied it for some reason....ad infinitum. Being a healthcare provider as the customer only helps to frustrate you further. Of course, all this decreases compliance & lowers cost for the insurance on a short term basis. On a long term basis, it is an evolving intractable disaster for our society. read more

The pharmacy technician working scoffed at me and rolled her eyes, very obviously frustrated at me existing and asking questions. I was polite to her and simply had some missing info, which I apologized for, because I was picking up for a client. I've never felt so much disdain for just trying to go to the pharmacy. Seriously this "drive through" is the worst ever! I drive, join the line of cars, and have to turn off the engine, and wait in dead stop line for about 1.5 HOURS! Yes, if there are like 3-4 cars in front, 1.5 is a minimum wait line. Then the car passes, then we all turn engines and crawl that car length to stop again for another 25-30 min. This is insane and I'm trying to write this review waiting in said line, in the rain, but also, hey, there is an idea: tell the people that are waiting for the prescription to be filled, to park on the parking lot, and move your ass, and bring them the prescription to the car, meanwhile, the ready-to-pick up people can pick it up. Worst ever! I went to pick and prescription fot my 2 year old son. I get there and they tell me it's not ready. My husband goes after work, he goes inside huge line. He then decides to go through the drive through and waits and hour to be told it's still not ready and they are working on it. He then mentions I was there ealier so "they go check" the lady come to tell us he has to back inside because we have to get over the counter. My husband explains he has been waiting and if he can purchase it though her and she says she can't. This not customer service at all. Worst experience ever with a pharmacy. This location needs way more staff working in their pharmacy. Every single time I come to pick up my medication there is 10 to 12 cars in the drive thru and 20 people in line inside the store itself. I went in Sep. 7, 2022, for the latest covid19 bivalent vaccine approved early in the week. At registration counter, I told Paula I came for covid19 bivalent vaccine. I didn't know how to pronounce "bivalent" correctly, and then Paula correctly confidently me "variant." Ok, no matter, probably we are talking about same thing, a mutation of covid19, which the latest is officially covid19 bivalent vaccine. Anyhow, I gave my id and insurance card. Paula said she needs my medicare card since I am older than 65. I said I have medicare A card but I didn't bring it with me because I don't use it. I use medical insurance thru my wife's work. She insisted and searched for my name in some database for medicare. She even said red and some color card that bears medicare A and B. I am enrolled only in medicare A, again, since I have health insurance thru my spouse's work. She claimed she can't hear me well thru the partition in the counter. I could hear her well. If she can't hear me well, and I can hear her well, it's there problem how the partition is constructed. Finally, she found my medical stuff with my health insurance card. Other lady came with only one injection for cover19 bivalent shot. The problem is I made appointment in Walgreens Santa Maria CA website for both covid19 bivalent and flu shots! And, I told up front I came for both shots. This woman, Paula, is such that she claimed she couldn't hear me well. Final thought: I got both shots, covid19 bivalent and flu. I see there's a few negatives from other reviews but honestly Walgreens is great. Always clean, things are always in stock, I hardly ever wait at checkout and the staff at the pharmacy are veryyyyy patient. I've been in line and seen/heard other guests be so rude or shouting at the staff and it's sad really. These people are set in place to help and acting like that does not do anything to move things along. So honestly props to them for being so patient and staying composed. read more

Sadly I will not be getting prescriptions through this Walgreens again. The sign in the front of this Walgreens says 24hour pharmacy, I have been getting my prescription from this Walgreens for a few months now- chose this pharmacy due to being open 24hrs - however I went tonight to get my prescription not knowing they changed their pharmacy hours, I never received an email or text stating this change and so I arrived tonight and saw a sign that they were now closing at 9pm - I was 20 minutes late - I went to the drive through window just to see if there was someone that could help me real quick being that they are a pharmacy, you think that they would be willing to help ..there was a girl that was still there and I begged her to please get my prescription, I don't usually have to pay anything because of my insurance all she would really have to do is hand it to me and she absolutely refused. I asked her multiple times and she kept saying no. The minute I walked away another lady then placed in the window a "no pharmacist on duty sign" I literally couldn't believe how much they were unwilling to help me. I am not one to complain because I understand in normal circumstances it is what it is but it literally felt like a slap in the face when she put that sign up. read more

I have been to this particular Walgreen's twice while I was on a recent stay in Santa Maria. I wanted to shout out staff a different one both times who when I needed help gave me the directions I needed and escorted me directly to the product I wanted. The nice thing about Walgreen's is you can find small portions of individual household items you might need while on vacation. The other nice thing is they all carry the same product lines you can be sure you can get what you need from over the counter allergy meds to bottled water to snacks. read more

I've used Walgreens for so many years and all over the country. This is the absolute WORST PHARMACY. My prescription was faxed in from the VA earlier this morning. I called hours later to check on it. First, I was told they did not have it. I called back and after some time they found it, but said they could not fill it. They needed the doctors MIP number. Yes, I keep that on me at all times! SMH. Then I let them know it was a Nurse Practitioner. They were like oh....and went and got whatever number they needed. Wouldn't you read MD on the signature?? They said ready in an hour. Waited an hour and a half. Drove up there, and they had not even started filling my prescriptions. This is not like ANY other Walgreens I have ever been to. Walgreens 24 hour pharmacy is no longer 24/7 and it's by far the worst pharmacy you could ever go too. Don't go there!! . Not enough staff and there always way too overloaded with prescriptions. I impressed with Walgreens technicians! We we're sent to Walmart Pharmacy with a prescription coupon for $29.31 for a medication. Walmart pharmacy declined the coupon and tried to charge me almost $90.00. I called CVS pharmacy in Orcutt and was placed on hold for over 20 minutes. It was 9:00pm at this point and they closed so third time is a charm, right? I called Walgreens in Orcutt and the tech. answered my call quickly. I explained my situation and they told me to come on down. When I got there it went purty fast and they honored the coupon too. So instead of paying almost $90.00 I paid $30.00 and received excellent customer service! Walgreens in Orcutt 100% superseded my expectation! Thank you guys, keep up the good work. read more

First of all I had called two days ago saying that I wanted to refill my son's prescription for his allergy medicine when I got there they were saying that they don't have it in stock and it might come next week and they gave me a print out and told me I had to fill it online and they gave me step-by-step instructions however when I go to put in the RX number it wasn't saying that it was valid mind you I had told them that I wanted it filled and they're making me go online to do it then when I try to call the pharmacy it just keeps ringing and ringing and ringing no one answers the phone I was on hold for 45 minutes the first time hung up because I got fed up tried calling back was on the phone for another 15 minutes on hold hung up again tried again got fed up I'm so over this place and my son really needs that medicine I'm thinking about going to the better business bureau because this is ridiculous my son has serious allergies and he doesn't have the medicine to treat it because they don't want to do their job. At this point I'd give 0 stars if I could. We had medicine sent to this store from another location since it had to be compounded (we were told this location didn't compound). So I get a call that the medicine is ready to be picked up, so I head down there and give them the information to be told "We don't have anything here for that name." So the next day I head to the next location in town to be told the same thing. So at this point I'm pissed off. I call the Walgreens that called me (it was this location) and talked to 3 employees and finally they say "oh yeah it's in the fridge" so I go back to this location and ask them why they told me the night before last that they didn't have anything under that name. They told me "If it's sent here from another location it's not in our system that it's here. It's your responsibility to know where it is, like if it's in the fridge. It's not our job to check the fridge or to know where your medicine is. So if you have anything sent here you need to know it's in the fridge and let us know " Seriously?! Closest Walgreens. I hate the corner it's on since it's a pain to drive in/out of. They used to take Tricare and then the program switched so we had to start going to Rite-Aid and recently Tricare switched AGAIN so it's back to Walgreens! They have a rewards program you can sign up for along with an app to manage it and photograph prints. I like coming here for seasonal items, primarily their displays of holiday sweets. read more

I am currently here to pick up a Western Union and have been waiting 20 minutes already, being told they have "closed out the computers and now have to bring them back up so it'll be like 20 minutes or longer." It's 7pm on Monday December 23rd, the computers are closing out right now why?? The girl working the photo area that assists the Western Union is acting bothered that I am even speaking to her and proceeded to tell me that they could do the close out at like 1030 but it wouldn't matter because they would still have to be on the floor...whatever that means. Bottom line, rude and unhelpful staff and they hold your money and make you wait. Not sure if they're trying to run a scam or what by letting you do all the kiosk check in and everything and then don't give you your money. Save yourself a headache and an hour long trip that should have been 5 minutes. Rite Aid is right across the street. read more
