Outside of Vegas, I've never seen a Walgreens with a wraparound line corral. Apparently this Walgreens is poppin' off. I came here because I cut my hand opening some boxes and needed band aids and Lysol wipes. They're band aid selection wasn't as fancy as Target's but they had the good cloth kind that stay put forever which was great for my purposes. I tried to check out at the pharmacy since it was right next to the band aids but none of the multiple pharmacists came over. They did seem busy... though there was no one else there at the time. I ended up checking out at the main register and waiting in the wrap around line while people price checked chocolate nibs and paid separately on 5 different boxes to use a bunch of coupons. It was an exercise in patience and made it. Overall, totally fine Walgreens if you don't mind waiting in a bit of a line. Bonus for it being close to the movie theater so you can smuggle in bootleg snacks. read more

The service from the majority of the staff is horrible. They are very slow to assist you, they don't know their own inventory or where anything is located in the store..., and they misinform you by stating their default answer, "oh that's only available online"---which is ignorant as after much searching on my own--I was able to locate the product.... Only benefit from this store is the drive-thru RX window. It is convenient as it is near trader joe's which has stellar service! read more

I've been coming here all my life! I'm lucky I never get stuck in the long lines or people who just take forever to pay. Great place to grab some snacks, makeup, and your everyday needs. They have a school supply section, tons of candy and toys for the little ones. Photo center is always the slowest service. At times no one is there to help. They have red box which is really convenient. Remodeled the front section so EVERYONE knows there's only one line. read more

I'm not sure why this Walgreens has low ratings as it's in a great location and someone is always willing to help me. I don't use the pharmacy here, but I've used the photo center several times and was helped so quickly and even got step by step help at the kiosks. Items I've ordered are high quality, and staff was always helpful to answer my questions there. I've spoken to Arvind and Andres at the photo center, and Greg at the register. Everyone (I don't know anyone else's names, but I come here often due to its central location) is always very helpful and I find great deals. Thank you again! read more

I would not even give this a star if I could. Worst store ever. Over 10 people in line for the pharmacy. Come on Walgreens do better. Pay and hire people. The store was a mess too. Carts for restocking at 2 PM blocking isles. The people in San Mateo deserve better. I came to pick up a prescription that my store did not have. Ready to just leave and wait until tomorrow. My son had general anasthesia for removal of 4 wisdom teeth and we stood in a line (20th position) to pick up a prescription that was ready. He was visibly swaying in the line, about to pass out and the pharmacist (a Doctor?) refused to quietly advance us. Unfathomable. Wouldnt recommend this pharmacy to ANYONE. The representative lied to me. I wanted to get a passport size photo but the attendent Christina wasn't interested at all. The first time I went there she told me to come back after half an hour because the technician wasn't there. So I went back in half an hour and this time around as well, its Christina again. I am looking around to see if the "technician" is back but I don't see anyone. And to my surprise, Christina went ahead and took my photo and processed it. Now either she learned how to operate the camera and process the photos in half an hour or she lied to me the first time around. Now I understand that this is difficult job that you are doing but it doesn't mean you will lie to people and waste their time. You could have simply told me that you were busy and requested me to come back later and believe me I would have done that. Remember, little courtesy goes a long way. read more

Called all f' n morning on hold for 20 mins only to have it ring incessantly and no one EVER pick up. It's a week later and for an open refill on file this is crazy!! I went there at 10:25 pm last night and they were closed. Their hours are until 11. No sign or anything. I saw the manager inside and waved his hands to say, "go away". The management here is awful. It's poorly run, and the night manager walks around the store with his mask not covering his nose. I think it bothers me more because he is extremely rude. If this wasn't the closest drug store choice I would never go in. I want to say the cashiers are not the issue. I have grown to like them. They are just hard workers dealing with incompetent management. The women in cosmetics are FANTASTIC. This Walgreens is always jam packed with people and the lines are always super long. The pharmacy always takes forever and we've often had to return hours later (or even days) to pick up a prescription. I'm not sure if it's just the convenience of being located in downtown, but it's definitely not worth the hassle. I would suggest going to the CVS down El Camino a bit for a more organized and less hectic place to get your prescription and/or buy items. read more

This pharmacy consistently provides poor service. Ive been shorted on pills more than once. I have paid for prescriptions, gotten home, and discovered one of the bottles missing. And when I called for replacement I received a lot of flack. (And it was not a controlled substance.) There are frequently long waits and the staff are generally gruff. I just now went to their drive-through to pick up two medications. I waited in line for about five minutes behind one car. When that customer got their medications, I pulled up and was told they were on a lunch break and to come back. There's no indication on their website they are closed at 1:30 for lunch and when I called, their phone message also did not mention being closed for lunch. I can't believe they would tell a customer standing in front of them to come back later. They should block off the drive through when they are closed. read more

This review is for their pharmacy department. Honestly I would give a negative star if I could. Worst pharmacy I have ever been. No matter when you come, there is always at least 20min wait. They never have more than one front desk staff helping with pick up. And that person also needs to deal with people coming to take flu shoot, people who want to have diabete screening, even prescription drop off because nobody is serving the drop off window. What's worst is they lie about their hour. We drove there at 5pm on a Monday afternoon only to be told by pharmacist that they already closed up. Excuse me?? That's not what's said right there on the wall. I need my meds coz somebody is in pain!!! Come on Walgreen's that's not the way to do business. You should at least treat customer with some respect by following basic rules. read more

I go to the Walgreens for the same reason as everyone else, where else are you going to send your prescriptions? Anyway they do OK and haven't messed up my hexomino prescription yet (wish I could say the same for certain other pharmacies in the past) so that's pretty good. If I could give negative stars I would . This place is a joke and the pharmacy is run by clowns . I came in to pick up a prescription in November and was told I couldn't pick it up until the end of January. Fast forward to January and I come to pick up my prescription and low and behold they tell me I don't have a prescription and after ten minutes they find it and then they tell me it wasn't filled . Then they tell me it's not covered by my insurance, which I find very odd because it's always been covered before . After dealing with these 2 guys in the pharmacy who have no clue and shouldn't be working there I was so irritated I paid out of pocket . Keep in mind I drove from 3 hrs away to get this prescription just to get the run around from the 2 imbeciles. Later I call my insurance and it was supposed to be covered . I would avoid this pharmacy at all costs . Every time I come in the guy is extremely slow , it takes him about 10-15 minutes per customer. noticed walgreens was of one of many sponsors of the 2nd annual san mateo harvest moon festival. and they were kitty corner from the festival. so i dropped in to get some cough meds (7ish) i was out of. the store is spacious, lots of wide aisles, signs everywhere to indicate where stuff is at. there was a congestion at checkout but backup checkers quickly cut down the lines. definitely would come here again if i need to. oaktown's walgreens isn't as diligent about long lines. inventory kind of spotty also. read more

Something triggered me to write a review on this Walgreens. Normally I wouldn't write a review for a drug store like that. But this Walgreens is worth my time! Stopped by this Walgreens after lunch for a walk. Not thinking of buying anything. Than I walked into the isle where they have lotions and facewash. I LOVE how there isnt only 2 items for the products they sell. I hate it when you hardly see anything on the merchandise rack. Thanks to the staff for stocking up! This walgreen is much more organized than the one in Millbrae, and the staff are definitely nicer and more polite. They also have a lot of sales. For some reason, i notice there are lots of sale stickers! So i stopped by the hair dye section and picked up 2 boxes of Garnier Nutrisee Hair dye. One for my mom and one for me. They were on sale for $5 each. Very nice, time to get back on some auburn red hair! read more

On 11/18/21 I brought a prescription to this Walgreens. They told me that they needed to order it and that I would receive a call when it was filled. They never called me. On 12/4/21 I called to ask what happened with my prescription. The female that answered the phone put me on hold and then told me it was not filled. I asked what the problem was, and she placed me on hold. While I was on hold (for over 5 minutes) an Automatic call came in from Walgreens stating that my prescription was filled. A second call came into my cell phone almost immediately stating that the pharmacy was working on my prescription. The employee never picked up the phone but instead initiated these auto calls. So I called back (and again waited on hold for over 15 minutes). I asked to speak to someone about this prescription. This man informed me that the prescription had just sat there and was never addressed. He called me back after investigating and said that the provider wrote a trade name and they needed to contact that provider to see if they would authorize a generic (non-trade) item. He could not tell me why no one had done this. We agreed that Walgreens would try to contact the provider and I also would try to call the provider. I left a message for my provider to call the pharmacy. Again I never heard from Walgreens. On 12/20/21 I drove to the pharmacy to retrieve the prescription. They could have ordered the trade prescription but instead did nothing and failed to call me to let me know that there was still a problem. Because of my insurance, I am restricted to which pharmacies I can use. So this pharmacy left me without the necessary medication for over one month. I called the corporate Walgreens office to complain on 12/21/21. On 12/22/21 I received an automatic call from the pharmacy saying that the prescription was ready for pick up. Within 2 minutes of that automated call, a woman from this Walgreen called my cell number stating that I had given them a work number (implying that it was therefore my fault for not receiving any calls). I just hung up! I have used Walgreens for years and they always identify me by my phone number (which has been the same for over 15 years). In addition, their automated system knows my cell phone number (I get plenty of these calls to the correct cell phone). In addition, the male in this Walgreens called me back on 12/4/21 on my cell. Words cannot be expressed regarding the poor service in this pharmacy. read more

This place was good many years back regarding the pharmacy. Past few years I've a noticed a huge decline in customer service . They put you on-hold when calling then often don't answer, no notifications of prescriptions once the insurance approves it. You have to call several times just to get an answer. One lane has been closed in the drive through for a long time now and the clerks seem lazy. read more

In fact it has a parking lot and a drive through pharmacy (!) which is impressive for downtown. Selection and service are precisely as you'd expect for Walgreens. I like their hours and their location is convenient. But their customer service policies are lacking. I went to buy some batteries and picked up 2 4-packs on sale for $3.49. After waiting in line for a long time (one thing I don't love about this store), it didn't ring up at the sale price. So the cashier offered to go with me to find the sign saying it was on sale. We found it, but it turns out at the bottom the sale price was good until yesterday but they forgot to take it down. His response: "there is nothing I can do. Did you want to get them at full price?" Not the right thing to say, especially after having waited in that long of a line. Now...at 99% of other stores, regardless of if big chains or mom & pop, if they have a sign up showing the sale price, they will honor it as long as the sign is up. It's not like it was a misprint that would have cost them a lot of profit or anything. It was a sale price that they decided upon, and they kept the sign up. The location is convenient but the selection of products is sub par and overpriced. There seems like a high turnover in employees and of course some are better than others. With my most recent visit, I was asked if I wanted to purchase a bag for 25 cents. I politely declined made my way home and realized she charged me for one any way. Well thanks for that Walgreens. This location is conveniently located in the middle of downtown San Mateo, perfect for whatever you may need! Apparently they have a free parking lot! Considering the fact that I commute from the East Bay to San Mateo for work and my schedule has awkward breaks throughout the day, I basically live out of my car. With that said, sometimes I find myself in the need of random product such as advil or hair ties or gum, to get me through my there. It's nice to know I can just walk down a couple blocks from work and grab whatever I need. The place looked spacious and clean, plenty of product. read more
