When I walked into the convenient store portion there was a woman who was greeting everybody saying good morning. I couldn't believe that she was in a good mood and actually making gas station customers in a good mood too. Then when I was waiting in line, I saw a man leave a little bit of change on the counter and the employees ran outside to alert him that he had left some money. He was really thankful. I thought this was really nice because they could have easily just kept the cents. What was the most amazing to me was the woman who was checking everyone out at the register literally greeted like five people by name. I heard her say "I'll be with you in a minute Mr. Brown!" And "Hello (name), are you feeling better today?" And "Good morning Mrs. (name)! What will you have today?" Like... are you kidding! This is a circle K gas station. Why did I feel like I was at a farmers market?? Haha. I thought that was amazing and good enough to share. PS the store was really clean, had lots of drink and food options to choose from, and the aisles for pumping gas were wide. I was impressed. No trash cans overflowing or nothing. I'll be back. Charging an extra $1.00 fee on top of a $20.97 purchase is an outrageous 4.76% surcharge and it was done without a single word of verbal or written warning.When I confronted the female cashier/owner about this unauthorized charge, she treated me with absolute condescension, pointing aggressively at a sign that says "No AmEx" as if I didn't know how to read. A "No AmEx" sign is NOT a legal disclosure for a debit card transaction fee, and she knew exactly what she was doing. To make matters worse, a man who was with her immediately stepped up to me in a clear and uncomfortable attempt at physical intimidation just for questioning the bill.Under the Georgia Fair Business Practices Act (FBPA), it is strictly illegal to hit consumers with deceptive, hidden, and undisclosed fees at checkout. Furthermore, major payment processing networks explicitly prohibit merchants from adding surcharges to DEBIT card transactions.It is highly evident that this illegal fee is being applied selectively and unfairly to outsiders.
