I went into this Walgreens to pick up EMERGENCY Diabetic meds as my GL spiked, plus it was hot outside. Was having a ned emergency including headaches and loss of vision. I WAS TREATED AS AN UNLIMITED ATM. Finally got the Novalog, however was unable to get the needed needles to inject the life saving insulin. 1 week later, Zero followup from Wallgreens. Oh did I mention I was told to come back in 1-2 hours since they was going to lunch? I remember Walgreens "lunch counter" getting shakes and Icecream. Today's mentality is Walgreens take your and your insurance's money, then you get attitude of how the patient should be thankful we are allowed to shop there. I have tons to say. Unfriendly service. Refuses to let paying customers use the bathroom "in the mornings" whatever that means. After spending over 70$, access to a restroom doesn't seem like an unreasonable expectation at a pharmacy. Too many ca businesses now refuse bathroom access to paying customers and I am now boycotting those locations. If bathroom access is unimportant to you, I still recommend avoiding this place as the customer "service" was severely lacking and the cashier was unpleasant.... no redeeming qualities here. The gal helping customers has no business whatsoever being in retail dealing with People. Especially those that are hurting and sick when they come to a pharmacy. The pharmacist (woman/Asian) didn't give me the time of day to the point she didn't even look in my direction until I said "Yall need to get with the program." The woman working the register's tonight has a horrendous attitude. My partner and I went in to print some pictures out, he greeted her and asked her very politely if he could use the cord so he could begin uploading. She proceeded to ask what phone he had and when he answered her direct question she interrupted both of us as we were specifying what type it needed (type-C) to say "well, i don't know what that means" as if we had asked her rudely. I immediately told my partner we were leaving as she was approaching with the cord (she seemed to have no issue finding the cord, so I guess she knew what that meant), and looked shocked as we left. I am completely disapointed on how my visit went today at the costa mesa walgreens pharmacy. I got there a couple of minutes before the pharmacy reopened after lunch ... I understood that I would be the first customer so I tried to give them their space and time before they opened their sliding door, and patiently waited to be calledto the counter. This was a new prescription for me, and I was also a new customer and the prescription was not a narcotic. The gentleman at the counter just said your insurance doesn't cover the prescription here. I had to ask if it was covered at cvs and he just said yes and turned me away. Did not even bother to ask if we wanted it transfered at least out of courtesy. Filled a prescription here today and went to pick it up after about an hour. When I arrived, it wasn't ready and I was told it would be just 5 minutes. After about 20 minutes waiting and watching, I witnessed 2 people getting the incorrect prescription, others not getting their prescriptions at all (pharmacist claiming it wasn't received) and 3 pharmacists working on 1 computer for one order (how many pharmacists does it take to fill 1 prescription?). When I got home I realize I only have 1 prescription and my doctor faxed over 2. This place is a disaster. I won't be going back. Try calling the actual pharmacy and you will NEVER be able to talk to the staff ! When they get the order from my MD electronically, it usually takes 2 days for the order to be filled! So then i have to drive there each time, just to make sure they can fill the order, and they ALWAYS complain about how understaffed they are, so after i go there the first time, i then have to wait 5 or more hours until they actually fill the RX. New Pharmacy Management is horrible. Although this Walgreens is generally fine to shop at, avoid the pharmacy. Long lines and people working at the pharmacy seem to be untrained and incompetent. Customer after customer couldn't get answers for simple questions and everyone of the 10 people in line were frustrated with the process (or lack thereof). When discussing an issue with the manager, it became evident where the lack of training and basic communication skills came from. He simply lacked basic communication skills and showed a lack of concern for any of the customers in line. Very sad because this used to by my neighborhood pharmacy but now I'll only go for the bottled water and toilet paper. Go to CVS or the Walgreens on Brookhurst. read more

Every time I've been to this Walgreens no matter what day or time it's always super slow in the pharmacy department. If you're in a rush or making a quick pit stop to pick up your prescription this is not the place to do so. I recently walked in on a Saturday around 5pm (which they close 6pm) there was one lady at the counter with another lady waiting. I probably got to the counter 20 minutes later which was ridiculous. There was also one guy working which slows down the process and probably not his fault that was the case but they should really have more staff or something to make this transaction quicker. I'm also not sure if their computer systems are slow or what but if that is, they should fix that as well. My rating will go up and change if they can change on the speed of handling prescriptions as this would make things a lot easier! read more

As a resident of Costa Mesa I'm very happy to now have a new Walgreens on this side of town. The store looks great, the landscaping and decor is a welcomed sight to what use to be an abandoned dirt lot were homeless people use to spend their days. I remember going to the roller rink that was here back in the 1970's and then the liquor barn that was so convenient during the 1990s. For a short period of time we had the Tower Records building and before the cassette tape and then the CD became extinct this was a popular place for young adults to spend their Friday nights. I think the new Walgreens is going to bring a consistent type of business to the area and should serve the people of Costa Mesa well. I walked into the new Walgreens before it was open and from what I can tell it's going to be great. It is not the biggest Walgreens I have ever seen but it's well organized and has a variety of all the things that we need. The parking lot was completely finished and I think that there are plenty of spaces to handle the steady flow of customers that I believe this place will have. For those of us on the side of town it's going to be nice not to have to cross the busy 17th stree intesection when we need something quick and we want the transaction to be easy. Bottom line is Walgreens is awesome and I am happy that it is finally built, the long wait is over. read more

The pharmacy department at this Walgreens location is the best pharmacy I've ever been to! Special orders at pharmacies are normally a nightmare. I have a senior kitty who requires daily subcutaneous fluids for his advanced kidney disease. The fluids are not something pharmacies keep on hand, particularly when you're ordering a case at a time. I had been getting them from my local Costco but they were having issues filling my prescription. I actually waited over a month(!) to get them, hoping all the while the distributor would get the fluids back in stock and that Costco would actually let me know if and when the order was filled (FYI, they don't provide updates and you have to keep calling them in cases like this -- very annoying). CVS didn't have the fluids in stock either so I was getting nervous that I was going to run out. In a last ditch effort, I contacted this Walgreens and expected the same story where all fluids were on backorder with no date of when they'd be available. Imagine my surprise when the friendly pharmacy worker said she'd check with their distributor and call me back. I didn't get a call that day so I figured I'd check with them again in a few days, but guess what: I was called back the very next day with news that they could order it for me! I was even given an approximate cost for the fluids -- something other pharmacies are unwilling to do for whatever reason -- and the price was totally reasonable. After I received a call the very next day that my prescription was ready for pickup, I showed up with my three Rx discount cards to help reduce the cost of the fluids since they aren't covered by insurance. Instead of getting attitude (which has happened at EVERY other pharmacy I've been to), I was met with a smile and an of-course-we-can-do-that-for-you attitude. The pharmacy staff even helped me figure out which card would get the best discount based on the number of days my Rx would cover! We determined that my prescription was for more days than the discount card covered, but I noticed that my Rx was outdated and called my vet to fix it. The pharmacy said they'd update the Rx once they heard back from my vet so I decided to come back the next day instead of waiting. I received a call that night from a pharmacy worker to call them back because they had the prescription but the quantity didn't match up to what we had talked about so they put my order on hold. I can't believe that she remembered me and that I needed a whole case rather than just one bag of fluids -- talk about great service! I called them the next morning and straightened it out with my vet. When I went in to pick up my Rx, the ladies I dealt with in the pharmacy department were so friendly and actually seemed to care about helping me keep my kitty well. They even had the best discount card on file which ended up saving me over 50%! The pharmacy staff at this Walgreens really go above and beyond for their customers, and it feels like excellent customer service is their #1 priority. I have no idea why other reviewers complain about this department because these ladies were the most helpful, friendly, informed, and courteous pharmacy department I've ever met. This seals the deal for me. This Walgreens is my new pharmacy! read more
