This is not a review of the floor staff as they have always been friendly and helpful. This is the last time I go to Walgreens after what I saw today. I've been sick for a week and went to get some supplies. The Walgreens brand Mucinex was priced at 16.99 for a pack of 20 and 16.99 for a pack of 14. I called an attendant to recheck it because that certainly couldn't be right. She scanned them both and said, yup, they're the same price. Standing there with a 102 fever, laryngitis and ready to pass out, I didn't have the energy to ask for the manager. This store has doubled /more than doubled pricing on everyday items since 2020. I haven't gone through Walgreens for prescriptions in years because they became insanely higher in prices-with insurance. Now, they want to charge the same price for different quantities? Good luck staying in business for much longer and buh bye. read more

He overheard my friend Mitch talking about a prescription that was supposed to be filled here but somehow managed to get to CVS and he resolved the whole problem for Mitch's Mom and really was wonderful! I ate too much and then came here. Felt more like Whalegreens. I basically feel the same way about this location as I do about the other location that I also visited on this recent trip to CHI. Which is a few miles away but I had a similar experience at this one. I guess the main difference was that these guys were less friendly. Barbie's take: Walgreens is a nice drugstore. Their prices are high, so it's better to shop the sales and getting the card for saving money. They also have lots of makeup. You can find pet food here in a pinch. Should have checked the Yelp reviews first before going there. The pharmacy and pharmacists are fucked up. Made an appointment for a specific vaccine one full week in advance. When I got there I was told they did not have it in stock but could order it for the next day. The girl was nice but appeared to be new and/or easily confusable. They had an alternate which was almost double the price. I asked how many doses were required and they said "two." The other required three. So I went with the alternate. I returned home, looked it up and found the alternate requires three doses. So their pharmacists are incompetent. (Assuming they are not deliberately lying.) Scary. I wonder what else they get mixed up on. ps: The restrooms are locked and off limits to customers. I asked and was told the men's room was "out of order." But I don't believe them. read more

I called to have a prescription transferred since my old Walgreens location closed and he basically shamed me for not knowing what prescriptions were transferable vs. ones that needed to be resent to that specific location. Must keep frozen pizza in plastic bag and not lodged in the cashier's head. Tuesday morning, 1:30am Me, walk up with left hand holding Jewell plastic bag of groceries, right hand holding Walgreens shopping basket. I set shopping basket on small counter in front of cashier. Cashier: "You need to take those things out of the basket." Me: "I don't have a free hand." Cashier: "I'm not ringing them up until they're out of the basket." Me: "Look, it's 1am. Help me out--I have one free hand, and there's no where to put the stuff." Cashier gives me a "I am going to be better than you eye-roll." A few seconds go by...a mini-standoff ensues. I take the basket, flip it over so all the contents dump all over the small counter, some of which land on the floor. Cashier: "If you do that again, I won't pick 'em up. I'm not a dog." Me: "I didn't mean to do that, but you are also not Jewell--there's no where to put stuff, so why don't you just deal with the basket?" Cashier gives me more eye roll. I pay her and leave. It's a nice store and convenient location but I'm constantly told my scripts are ready. Then when I arrive, they aren't. I get automated calls telling me it's ready. It happens monthly. From the review here I'm not the only one that ran into problems with the pharmacy... speciifically hours. Granted it's Sundayjbefore the fourth of july. 7/2 I needed to pick up my prescription which was transferred here from my closer Walgreens because after requesting a week week I was running out of meds I checked hours on line... open until 9pm. I arrives about 2. Pharmacy closed! Note there on pharmacy that they closed at 1! Ugh... nice after a trip in the rain especially and soaking wet only tu turn around and get drenched again! In addition to being at the corner of happy and healthy, this walgreens happens to be at the corner of right between my apartment and my gym - so it's super convenient. It's often busy - sometimes you might wait behind 10 people in line...even at times that you might not expect to, but in general it doesn't take too long to check out. Appreciate that they have some fresh produce (apples, bananas), and eggs and cheese. In a pinch, if I just need a small snack, I'll opt to go here instead of 10 minutes away to Mariano's. I have frequented this Walgreens for a few years and staff at this location is great. However, the amount of items that are locked in cases is absolutely absurd. It seems like every time I shop here, more and more items require an employee to unlock them. I HATE having to ask employees to unlock multiple items and I refuse to be that annoying customer. It's just so unnecessary and inconvenient for customers and employees. You might as well just walk to CVS, Marianos, or Jewel because frankly, it would be less annoying and way cheaper. Wow, some of the reviews for this store are outrageous. Anyway, my wife and I were impressed while shopping here 2 weeks ago. Note: The sales tax on our items ranged from 2.25%-12.75% (everything is neatly broken down on the receipt). I can only guess that this is a Chicago thing. +The store is very spacious, clean, and organized. +The cashiers are nice and pretty quick (my wife and I didn't encounter "the deaf guy" or "the chatty woman"- Maureen). Our cashier, a cute young woman, had trouble ringing one of the items up, but this had to do with the scanner (it was apparent to me that she knew what she was doing). +My wife and I found what we were looking for (snacks, mainly) pretty easily. +Some aisles are impressive (ex: the Halloween items really caught my eye). +/-The paper towels we bought were only $1.09, and we definitely got what we paid for (the sheets were very flimsy). +/-The line was long, and there were only 2 cashiers. We were only in line for about 5 minutes, though (I had enough time to grab a birthday card for my dad- hey, at least I remembered). +/-There are some sale items (they were only $3 each, and so I bought 2 bags of Jack Link's Beef Steak Nuggets- I've seen them as cheap as $3.49, but they're normally $6 or $6.49). In general, though, like at other Walgreens locations, the prices here are just okay. -A cart was left at the end of the line, and nobody thought to move it (I lightly shoved it as my wife and I walked past). -Some of the aisles are quite narrow. -As far as I know, there isn't much of a parking lot (my wife and I walked here from the hotel we were staying at). -The selection of greeting cards could be better. I want to comment on the Beef Steak Nuggets. I used to buy them in CA all the time (I now order them online), but the bags I bought here were awesome. The meat was very smoky and soft. It was like I was discovering the Nuggets all over again (I finished off the 1st bag in only a few minutes). I know from a review I wrote earlier that Jack Link's is based out of WI, and maybe the Nuggets are more fresh here because of how close IL and WI are. **This is part 2 of a 27 part series: The convenience stores of Lakeview Give yourself a high 5 ladies!! You run the best convenience store in Lakeview based on my reviews so far. My previous review, the 7-11 on Waveland and Broadway brings a lot to the table. No question. BUT.. the Walgreens on Broadway and Belmont takes the cake and eats it too. Don't get me wrong, the 7-11 on Broadway and Waveland is good. There's nothing wrong with it. But the Walgreens on Broadway and Belmont is a madman. $500/gram sht. So if you never had it...what's the Choco like?? In a word: Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful The store is well lit. So many older convenience stores have bad lighting. I hate that The floors are very clean. This is not easy to do. Especially when you have so many sodas on display that can fall over and spill. Walking around on a sticky floor is no fun. Yuck! As for the candy selection..very much above average. I think they carry almost every type of skittles. That's impressive Also, the layout of store is fairly intuitive. Most times, I can find what I'm looking for in 5 minutes or less. I appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into the store design. Note: Once concern I do have is regarding the sales tax. It seems to be a little on the high side at times. Ranging from 2.25%- 12.75% (Thanks for doing the calculation Simon F.!!). When I moved to this location I thought - SWEET! A 24 Walgreens right by my house but they are ALWAYS out of everything. Common things like - Ketchup, Diet Coke, Bread, Star Magazine and Frozen Sliders! (Sometimes at 4:30 am I need the last two to get me through the night, and if this Walgreens can't give me what I need...welll, I'll probably go here and buy something else cause I'm lazy.) This location must make MAD money - so please restock more! arg. God, for the life of me I can not remember the rambling lady's name but she is my favorite. You are probably like HUH? But once you go there you will understand. If you have a lot of time, and are in a great mood she is wonderful. But if you are hungover, in a hurry, or buying something embarrassing - best of luck not punching her in the face. I love this Walgreens! I can't believe people are hating on the deaf guy and the chatty woman. The deaf guy is VERY sweet and kind, maybe if people took a second to learn the most elementary of sign language, they'd know this. (Thank you = flat hand to your lips, then down to your palm) Rambling lady, I love her the most. Even when I'm busy I always have time to listen to her. She's great! I. HATE. This. Walgreens. There is always a line. Always. I seriously think I've only not seen a line twice. Others have commented about the crazy lady who works here. Every time I'm standing in line I pray I don't get her. She is a nut job. It's not cute, it's not endearing, it's just uncomfortable for all parties involved. The pharmacy is the WORST Walgreens pharmacy I've ever set foot in. There's always a line here too, but what's worse is this girl they always have working the register - she is the slowest human being to ever work a cash register in the history of retail. Plus the pharmacy only ever has one register open so the line just gets longer and longer and longer while Slowest Girl Ever takes her sweet time. If a customer has a question, she doesn't multitask and continue to ring others while someone is looking into a problem - everything stops. WORST. CASHIER. EVER. The pharmacy staff here worries me too. I was in LA for work recently and trying to get a very expensive prescription filled that I couldn't get filled in LA for reasons I won't bore you with. There was an insurance snafu, and the first person I talked to on the phone was an idiot and not understanding a very simple situation. She gave me the runaround for 5 minutes before I was like, "oh em gee, I can't take it, let me talk to an actual pharmacist." Pharmacist gets on the phone and in less than 30 seconds my problem is not only understood but resolved. I get the impression that most of the people who work at this location are in the WRONG JOB. A few weeks ago the grown ass woman in line in front of me had a meltdown because of the clusterfuck of a pharmacy (they made her stand in line, like, 3 times), and all I could think was, "girrrrrl, I KNOW." I've actually started getting prescriptions refilled at the location by my office, because I just can't take this place anymore. If you enjoy keeping your sanity, go elsewhere. read more

There's an older man that works here that yells NEXT and can come off as real grouchy but he's really nice. That seems to be the theme here in Chicago with the older men- cranky looking/sounding but actually really sweet. Awwwwww. So this location carries Crazy core skittles! Well it's Walgreens there's not much to say. Convienant, close, has the basics you need. Of course my wife likes Walgreens and I go to CVS. Not much difference other than the points programs are a bit different. Read an interesting article in WSJ a few weeks ago. For prescription prices they broke the major chains into three levels of cost. Most expensive was Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aide. Tier two was Wallmart, Target, etc. Tier 3 was CostCo and Sam's. Apparently Costco is the way to go for prescriptions showing a 20-35% lower prices than Walgreens/CVS. This is due to the fact that Walgreens is a pharmacy first to make money store whereas Costco makes their money on everything else. It went on to indicate that no matter what you get for a prescription that you would wait 45 minutes at Costco as they want you to wander the store to buy other things. If the cost is a big deal to you it's recommended to look to the warehouse stores for the best prices. None near me so I end up at W or C. Just what I recent read. I'm fine with Walgreens as it's 2 blocks from my house ;) read more

I love this Walgreen's! Yes, it is just a Walgreen's, but hey, Walgreen's deserves their own yelp reviews, too, right? Favorite: The rambling lady. She is so funny! Even on a day when I was annoyed with the world, I could not keep a straight face when she not only recites every item in my basket, but actually manages to make it resemble a song. She is not only useful for entertainment purposes - she's nice, too. She checks expiration dates on milk and other items, tells you if things are on sale if you get another, etc. Least Favorite: The guy always begging for something outside. I say 'something' because every week, he's up to a new one. I have been very tempted to bring him a job application from inside... He spends enough time there!! As for the line issue? It is really not that big of a deal. One line, 3 cashiers, it gets the same job done the same way 3 lines would. read more

There is this one woman who works here that i SWEAR has to be on crystal meth. She is always talking to herself and talks her way through ringing you up, no matter what time it is (this is a 24 hour walgreens). My boyfriend gets so annoyed by her that he will not stand in her line. Its hillarious to me but can obviously get annoying. This walgreens is decent but their pharmacy department is LAZY AS HELL. Rarely have I looked at a business and said "I wish this was a Walmart", but this mediocre Walgreens leaves me with that feeling. Located in something of a dead zone between grocery stores (Jewel-Osco and Treasure Island to the north and Walmart Neighborhood Market and Trader Joe's to the south), it would seem that this location would do well with a nice-sized grocery department. Instead, they stock only the bare necessities while maintaining an aisle of seasonal knick-knacks like off-brand Crocs and miniature children's surf boards. It's also not uncommon to find them completely sold out of milk or other items. To their credit, their beverage and liquor selection is fairly generous, though. Amazingly, this location somehow manages to have a line of at least a dozen people at almost all times of the day. This would be fine for a grocery store, but for a "convenience" store, it feels a bit sluggish. Walgreen's obnoxious check out system further slows things down with a number of menu prompts before the cashier can process your credit card. A few exceptionally cheerful and helpful employees on staff do make the experience more pleasant, however. I still appreciate having a 24/7 store here, but in my opinion, this Walgreens needs to shift to a more grocery-centric model and speed up their checkout lines to reach its full potential. read more

The girl at the cosmetic counter was the sweetest and most helpful person I've ever come across at a drug store. She gave my friend and I tips, tricks and a few options to chose from based off "the look" we going for. She was also jumping around a lot, it seemed they were understaffed and every time she came back, she was just as friendly. It is a Walgreen's. It gets the job done. If I need to grab something quick or get a script filled then this is a good place. I haven't seen Maureen (chatty lady) in awhile but I think she still works there. I don't know how she can "RUIN SOMEONES LIFE". She obviously is disabled and deserves a job just as much as you or I do. The deaf guy also deserves a job. I cannot believe some people are so damn selfish (actually I can). The layout is bad though, it gets really clogged by the pharmacy. Also customer service is really bad in this area of Chicago. However I guess I cannot blame them with the attitude that some have on here. Stone Pharmacy is nearby and they are good. If you cannot stand this store then go there I guess. read more

2 Stars for the Pharmacy. I regularly get my prescription filled here and every month it is something new. First of all there is always a line. It usually moves at a decent pace, but don't even think about coming here after work on a weekday or the line will be down the vitamin isle. Then there is always at least one terribly mean pharmacist, who acts inconvenienced by anything you ask for. Then if you pick up your prescription more than a day or two late, they have already put it back and you have to wait for 20-30 minutes for it to be filled. I come here quite frequently and while it's nice to have one, they lock up almost everything and run out of items. Staff is fine, but I don't feel safe since there are aggressive panhandlers outside the store and one guy pushed me in one of the aisles. They need a security guard because I worry about my safety. read more

I have been coming to this location for over a year now, and here is the break down of my experiences to date: SERVICE - depending on who is working. Some days are good, while others are bad. It all boils down to the individual employee(s) working. SELECTION - a big selection of drinks, so-so for groceries but then again, it is a drug store - not a grocery store. PHARMACY - same as any other pharmacies I have been to. Need a prescription medication, drop off your slip and wait for the medication to be filled or come back to pick it up. HOURS of OPERATION - 24/7 is great to have in the neighborhood, as you can stop in anytime when you are in need of supplies for those late night parties. I can't say anything more than this, as it is a convenience drug store located at a corner of Belmont and Broadway. I would never expect these drug stores to blow my socks off in terms of service. read more

This is a larger Walgreens store so they have a wide assortment of items. You can find anything from dinner to toiletries to office supplies or even alcohol here. If there's a line forming they always bring up more cashiers so I am always in and out very quickly. All their employees are super nice and helpful. read more
