This place is seriously messed up. I looked up the website and said it had two things and plenty of them in stock. When I got there they didn't have any. When I asked they said if they're not on the shelf then they don't have any. They wouldn't even offer to go look in the back. Ace has come a long way with the new owners and new employees! Any local will tell you their horror stories when Ray owned the store and his minions were just as rude and disrespectful. Wendy was the only respectful employee I experienced and I was happy to see she was kept on with the new owner. The store has recently undergone a massive update with all new displays, layout and even new inventory. The employees now are great; respectful, helpful, and eager to meet your needs. Nathan is the best; an excellent people person, always greeting everyone with a smile, very helpful and I always walk away satisfied feeling like a valued customer. Kudos to the new owner for finally making Ace a store us locals are happy to return to after years of avoiding the place. read more

What's up with this place? Every time I've come in the lady at the checkout can't say hi or greet in anyway. They sell you the wrong stuff and won't return it because it's used. Try selling people the correct items to begin with, it's your employees fault, not the customer. Selection is fine and value is what you'd expect from a small town. Just go to Walmart or Newport location where employees know what they're selling and they have a reasonable return policy. read more

Price on display says 54.99. I was charged 10.00 more at the register. When I pointed the price difference they guy said the product was probably in the wrong spot. I took a photo and showed him the price and product were in the correct area. He told me the tag must have not been updated yet. He refused to honor the advertised price and walked away. This Ace hardware store has an impressive array of useful tools and gear for projects. For example, today I needed several items to install a Moen stainless grab-bar in a walk-in shower with travertine tiles. The friendly sales staff "aced" my short list by having in stock two sizes of masonry drill bits, small super-strong magnets to help locate studs though the stone, a small tube of waterproof silicone, and a handy spray bottle to keep the drill site cool. I would give zero if I could. I kept thinking all my bad service was just a fluke. I've been there maybe 10 times and not once were they able to help me. Either they never came after asking for help, or thought I was ignorant because I am female, or said "I don't know" on 90% of my questions, department experts were in no way experts. I do way more research than any of them do. They never smile or act like they even slightly like their job. They don't honor Ace coupons if it says Newport on them. Really? You don't want my business to save a buck? Nor do they know how the website works at all. It is always a complete waste of time. Judge for yourself but here is what I have observed and experienced myself over the past couple of years. First, during the pandemic they were the ONLY store I found that would be more than happy to risk themselves to sell you something but forbid any returns for fear of infection from the item. we all know it is the breathing around others not inanimate objects that caused sickness. Second, the service is deplorable. My estimat is approximately 75% of the time no one was either around to help find something or the employees were too engauged in their personal conversations to even notice your presence. When your are fortunate enough to gain someone's attention all I would generally get was a finger pointing to an aisle. If you want assistance with a hardware situation go to Copeland Lumber in Waldpor- TEN TIMES the service and experience. Third, the prices by comparison to their competitors are generally higher in most all situations. Fourth, the intelligence and good judgement needed to manage a business is severely lacking. Today I needed to go and purchase a small sprinkler for plants so I went to Waldport Ace (Copelands does not have a Lawn/Garden) instead of driving up to Newport. I was carrying in my arms a 10-week old puppy. My plan was to keep the pup in my arm, go and pick up the item from the aisle, pay and leave. As I entered the store I saw a sign that stated "No Dogs." So I went to the Manager, interpreting the sign was meant for dogs walking on the floor next to their master. I told her my plan but she said the sign was the sign. Gee, seeing that I was politely making a well- thought request I figured it didn't take much of a business mind to make a real simple customer-oriented decision. No go, she was completely incapable; reminds me of rental car scenario's that we have all experience. In conclusion, I will no longer shop at Waldport Ace for all of the above reasons. As a citizen of Waldport I wanted to give the store every chance to show me what they got. They certainly did and now they have permanently lost another customer ( I know of others). I have stopped by about three times or so. The people that work here are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of what they carry in their store. The most recent was earlier today. I stopped by for sterling silver wire to make necklaces. We have been going to this location before it was ACE, but unfortunately the staff is very poor at customer service. For the 3rd time I went in to purchae paint and for the 3rd time staff was eating at the paint counter and talking to another staff, they both ignored me so I asked a person that was stocking, he helped as much as he could but had to ask the guy eating at the desk, this guy mumbled something that neither one of us heard and went back to eating and talking. I just came upon these other ratings of one star. Because I was so upset with my current experience. I can't believe that the pricing situation has been going on for at least two years. I went in, of course, and pointed out that what I was just rung up was three dollars more than the sticker price. They said their inventory has not been updated new computer system. I asked for the difference they said no they're not gonna do that. He took a dollar out of his wallet and threw it on the counter, and he said " Will this make you happy " I said, no, I'm concerned about all the other people coming in and being overcharged. The employees in this hardware store are, for the most part, really good people who go above and beyond to help customers. The problem is the owner, who is a pretentious dope. He's rude, condescending and off-putting and he is the primary reason why a lot of local people won't walk in unless they really have to. If they were't the most convenient place to get an LP tank filled in town, I wouldn't go to this store at all. Mixed bag here. The only game in town mostly for hardware for the working folks. They have high prices on a lot of items because they must like sticking it to us due to that. You'd think they'd want to work with this small community but it feels more like an unfair advantage. They do have a lot of hardware i.e nails, screws, and other items of necessity. No reason to try and screw or nail the neighbors though with over priced items. Some of the employees seem to be helpful and knowledgeable but their cashier/computer system just slows it all down if you are in line. read more

Tried to come in a couple minutes before closing and got told I couldn't come in. Not a huge deal this was one of many times I got poor service. I hate to leave bad reviews but I'm tired of crappy service just because there's no where else in town to go. I've spent years working retail. I'm sure the employees are just following the lead of bad management. It's pretty easy to spot when a store is just a crappy place to work and that is what it looks like here. And actually one of my worst experiences here was when a boss was chewing out an employee right in front of me while I was shopping. That isn't something that should ever happen. If this was a good place to work the employees wouldn't be running people off that are trying to slip in for a quick part right before closing. I'm done trying to shop there. Wow this store has a lot of mixed reviews. This review is for a visit I made in July to grab some propane canisters. Everyone was friendly and helpful during my visit. I looked around to see what they had and nobody accosted me or bothered me. When I checked out the cashier was friendly. When I walked in another customer said "hi" and when I left someone else said "hi". All around positive experience for me that day. Usually Ace Hardware stores offer good experiences. I have a long history shopping at this store. but hadn't been using it for a number of years. A few weeks ago, it was announced that the store had new owners and I decided to start shopping there again, as it is closer than the ACE that I use in Newport. Well, I went a couple of times and it was fine, but today it was anything but. I was paying at the checkout, when a couple of un-masked folks came in. They were greeted by the employees and nothing was said about masks. I asked about this, and after brief conversation was told "keep your opinions you yourself Sir!" and then the employee who said this stomped off in a dismissive and seemingly angry manner. The other employee kind of wondered away. I was not rude or emotional in any way when I asked about this, but the employee certainly was in his response. Covid 19 is a very serious disease as everyone should know by now. So, for 2 reasons, one being the lack of concern over Covid protocols, and the other being extreme rudeness, this store is once again off my list. read more

Most stores in Waldport have a very limited supply of products, and Waldport Ace Hardware is no exception. Most of my trips there have been a waste of time, as I have to drive to Ace in Newport, Or. to get what I need. The people are friendly, but not overly helpful. I was hopeful when I heard they were under new management, but not much has changed. As an example, they carry about four different colors of Ace spray paint. The rest is another brand. Newport carries all colors of Ace paint. It's a good place to fill up your LP tank but that's about it. One of my tanks expired, so I wanted to buy another one. They did not have my size in stock and they wouldn't order one. Again, one trip to Newport and I am back in business. read more

ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. OK, I just left this store 15 min ago. My memory is very fresh. I was there at 12:30 Sunday. I went in to buy 3 sets of entry door knobs/dead locks in sterling silver. As I walked in the front doors I saw no employees. I stalled a minute looking at and deciding which beer I wanted to buy on my way out. I got to the front doors still seeing no employee I began to read the isle signs on the right side of the store to find locks. I couldn't read the signs as I forgot my glasses. I started walking up the right side and as I passed isle 2 I looked towards the cash registers to see a young employee with a band aid on his face in the middle of a big ole yawn. I asked simply "door knobs?" He replied "isle 1, or 2, or one or the other." I walked to the end of isle 1 found locks but could not see sterling silver or barely read the boxes. I waited hoping to have help arrive. No help. I found one dead bolt and took it to the counter to find the same guy in yet another big yawn. Said "sure could use some help" and walked back to the knobs. He replied across the store "well, I can't leave the register, So?" in a smart mouth voice. I looked longer for my knobs. I needed them as I just had stairs put in to the upstairs deck and could not lock the house. That being the case I had my 93 year old father sitting in the car waiting for me. Still, no help. I got really mad and walked out of the store. As I got close to the exit doors I could hear the kid at the counter calling for help on isle 1. I yelled to him that this was not the last he would hear from me and that i hoped he would lose his job. I left without buying even the dead bolt I had put on the counter. I have said several times that I will never go back to that ACE. Still I keep trying getting rarely the assistance I need. Again I will try...I will never go back there again. Oh ya, as I got in my car I could see that employee looking out or coming out the front door towards my car. What happened to the can't leave the counter rule? read more

Brittany was super helpful; she (and the rest of the folks there) went out of their way to help me get all set up for our little coast get a way. The staff is wonderful at Waldport Ace Hardware. Unfortunately the owner,manager is totally disrespectful to his staff and his customers. It is hard to be waited on while the person paid to be helping is being called into action by the beligerient "head guy". I had asked the cashier if my account was still active but the man in charge pretty much shouted across the room that I didn't have an account. I said that I was just checking. He shouted that all the old accounts except Federal ones were at zero balance. OK. But then he asked for my account #. I told him that I didn't have it but perhaps it could be accessed by using my name. Then he told me again that I didn't have an account. No one looked up anything. After that I went ahead and purchased a lot of accessories for the house that my husband and I are updating. The cashier asked if I wanted help with moving my purchases to the car. I said that I would appreciate it. BUT, the owner/manager who was overseeing, told the helper outer to open an additional check out as there were waiting customers. This seemed OK at first, but he offered no other helper outer for me. So I waited. And waited. I realized that I wasn't going to get any help out so I went back into the line and returned everything. I will never go into the store again.This is too bad as there is no hardware store nearby. Probably why this owner thinks he can act this way. That I am 76 years old should put perspective on the situation. Usually I am perfectly able to carry out my own stuff to the car but this was a lot of merchandise that was not bagged and it would have been necessary for me to make several trips. Unfortunate. I bought grass clippers from this store. Brought them home and used for about 2 minutes before I realized not only are they not sharp, the spring action was not right and they were difficult to open and close. When I brought them back to exchange for another style, I was told that since they's been used they couldn't resell (which I completely understand) but that even if deemed "defective" they would not accept return. I asked them why the manufacturer wouldn't give them a refund they said I should just sharpen them. This is not something one should have to do with $16 grass shears that are brand new and that doesn't solve the opening and closing problem. Completely unacceptable customer service. I will go many miles out of my way to not shop at this store again. Also, they do not take the Ace Hardware rewards card nor do they accept Ace Hardware coupons. read more

Yesterday I went in this store as I have done for the past two years when in town. The employees here have always been helpful and courteous to me. I mainly go in to fill a propane tank and the employees have always been wonderful and get the tank out of my car for me, (which is very much appreciated). But yesterday was a completely different day. I had never met the owner until yesterday... It was raining off and on and the employees were busy with other customers so they asked the owner to help me. From the very beginning the owner was not nice at all. He did not even say hello and did not give me any eye contact. He asked what I wanted in a gruff voice, I said I needed my propane tank filled, he said "it's raining", you can wait till it stops, then we'll go out". I want to say it was barely sprinkling... It was obvious he did not want to help me. He made me wait until he was good and ready to help me and he went back to what he was doing~ stocking shelves. I waited up at the front counter and the employees whispered he was the owner. The owner finally came back and asked me if it had stopped raining, and I said I didn't know, (it was barely raining). He was hateful, and bossy from the start. He told me to go get my propane tank out of my car which was parked right beside the stores huge propane tank in the parking spot. I told him it was heavy for me, and that I had been coming there for a couple years now and the nice employees always helped me with it before. That's when he got very nasty and hateful and said he was not getting the tank out of my floorboard of my car. It is a 10 gallon tank~ not that big but hard to manage for a female senior citizen... I told him he was rude and being lazy and an ass. He then called me a bitch! That's right a bitch and said he was not helping me at all. I honestly thought he was going to attack/hit me!!! Now I am here to tell you I am not about to let this go and am going to let the entire area know how he treats others. I honestly don't know how he stays in business or how he keeps his employees but I as a customer, I deserve better. This is a very small town, everyone knows everybody and I plan on reporting him to the BBB and contacting the chamber of commerce. He has no customer skills, no empathy, no respect, no class, and no self worth to treat others the way he does. It is a shame the town allows this disrespectful jerk to stay in business. Personally I am boycotting his business and would pay double to go anywhere but there. I am spreading the word about this bad businessman in hopes others steer clear from him, and his store.
