This is the place to go get sushi in Waco. I used to go to teriyaki park (which have the same owners) but I had an experience where my sushi was really dry not fresh at all. I've never had a problem at wakoroll my sushi is always fresh and delicious. It's really convenient I can just call in my order once I'm about to get off of work to pick it up and go home and enjoy my delicious spicy tuna rolls at home. The staff has always been really friendly, my sushi has always been delicious and the atmosphere in the restaurant has always been really great. read more

My husband and I visited this place at 3:30p on a Saturday. There weren't alot of people but had a pretty steady flow of "pick up and to go" orders while we dined. The place was clean and staff was friendly. We orders #1 Korean Chicken Fried Rice and #17 Bimbibap with chicken and a Shrimp Tempura Roll. The shrimp roll came out first and was well done. The shrimp was lightly battered, well fried and non greasy as it should be. The size was a bit small but still a decent amount of food. The Fried rice plate was a medium to medium-large sized portion while the Bimbibap was a large size portion. The taste was fresh and well done. It's not the most amazing Asian food but it is a tasty meal that you won't be disappointed in having especially since it is hard to find a decent Asian resturant in Waco. read more

I normally don't eat at Korean places outside of Austin or Dallas, but one of my mother in law's students recommended I try this place. It was well worth the trip down from the north end of town! I ordered just a regular beef bulgolgi plate and a black tea boba drink. My wife ordered similarly, as well as a bowl of chili lime edamame. The boba arrived pretty quickly and wasn't full of ice like some of the cheaper places in Austin. The bulgolgi was sweet but not overpowering, and intermixed with lots of carrots, squash, and onions. There was a lot of fresh green lettuce to grab and eat the main dish with, and the bowl of rice was bigger than most of my bowls of morning cereal! The banchan they brought out were pretty decent; I liked the stewed cucumbers, and my wife loved the fried tofu skins. The nappa cabbage kimchi was meh-meh, it wasn't really anything but peppery. Serving sizes are quite large, so even though came out to $15ish per person to get a full meal set, it's well worth it in my opinion. read more

In town seeing family and we decided to check this place out. Really not impressed. Food was below par and the cleanliness of the place pretty shotty. I ordered the teriyaki beef and it came out as two smashed pieces of poor quality meat on an elementary lunch room tray. All they have is plastic forks and butter knives to cut the beef. Took quite a bit of effort! So I asked for a big bowl(I noticed there was a dish being served in a big bowl) thinking I'll just mix up my bland fried rice and beef all together and we will be fine. I was told they are running low and I could have a small bowl if I wanted. Just terrible. Oh and don't waste your money on the fried rice either($2 upcharge). Tasted like plain white rice. Absolutely ZERO flavor. Our friends got actually sushi rolls..Maybe it's because it's Waco and these other people who are reviewing this as a "good" sushi place have never had good sushi, but it's crap. It's like fast food sushi. I can't imagine any of the fish is fresh. They would need to charge more if it was. Won't be back. read more

Hands down, this is my favorite Asian restaurant in Waco. I'm originally from Austin and constantly complained about the lack of good Korean food here, until someone turned us onto Wako Roll. Don't be fooled by the location or looks of the place! This restaurant serves some seriously delicious bulgogi and their spicy pork bibimbap is out of this world--full of vegetables, perfect in the clay pot, with a spot-on spice level. This is also the only place in town we'll eat sushi from. It's always reliably fresh and well made. The only criticism is portion size, on the Korean side of the menu specifically--if it's dinnertime, definitely opt for the large portion of bulgogi and galbee, or else you might leave a bit hungry. read more

We were so excited to try this place as big sushi lovers who get excited any chance we get to have sushi! Not impressed. For the price of the sushi being the same as any other sushi place, the quality is not good. The rice was hard and very very chewy, there was an unpleasant taste to every roll (between the 3 of us we had ordered 8 rolls..) so it wasnt the sauce, it had to be something in flavoring in what they use. The taste was so bad and the rice so hard to chew that we just left half of our rolls and left. So disappointing because the display is nice, the option of different typed rolls is great, but when it comes down to the taste which is the most important thing, we wont be back. read more

Vegan friendly. Their Korean BBQ Tacos with tofu (no cheese) are out of this world! They are pilled with fresh cabbage and cilantro and the sauce is so delicious. The tofu is cooked perfectly and it is very decently priced. My husband and I each get two tacos a piece and then split the vegetarian sushi roll and this fills us up. I have been here about 6 different times, and based on the previous experiences the rating would have been closer to about 4 stars due to it being the best sushi option in Waco. However, this past experience will result in me never returning. First of all, I love sushi, both cooked and raw. I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. Basically, I'm not a novice when it comes to sushi and not "grossed out" by anything on various rolls. This past time I ordered a roll with raw fish on the inside. When the food arrived, I could only eat one piece- something was off with the food and I knew it. I kindly asked to be able to switch to a cheaper roll, and they refused. They said the best they could do was 30% of a new roll. We then practically had to beg and deal with rude responses in order to get a refund for a roll which probably would have made me sick had I eaten the whole thing. Not impressed -- The exterior looks more appealing than interior. I was hoping Wako Roll is a full service restaurant. The menu looks so inviting. I ordered their Korean lunch special Spicy Calamari with white rice and miso soup. Meh! Taste was very weak though calamari and white rice were cooked perfectly. There's no "umph" reaction on my first bite. More like "hmm?". Miso soup was pretty bad. I worked at sushi restaurant before and I know when the soup is not fresh. Color is more on the dark side and has a slight bitterness because it has been sitting on a heated pot for hours. The bf ordered couple sushi- yellowtail and super white tuna. There are no comparison between price and quality. I could get a better quality for their price at another restaurant. Yellowtail was not fresh at all and almost inedible. Super white tuna was FAAARRR from being white, furthermore super white. It's pretty bad when I was having hard time to tell which one is what. And I am no dummy on this department. So, pretty bad experience maybe, just maybe, we will be back in the future... Who knows when. read more

Me and my wife decided to try this place one night and well it was definetly a let down. We walked in to a VERY crowded small place with only two seats (me being the tactical wizard I am I got us the last table) the Asian girl behind the counter was taking my wife's order when she belched loudly in my wife's face and then giggled. Customers and workers alike looked at her in disgust. They then handed us a number 23 for our order and noticed 2 other people had number 23... This is by far the best sushi I have ever had!! I live in the suburbs of Dallas and when I come down to visit family this is the place to go!! The selection is endless and the service and quality is amazing!! We ordered Edamame, the oriental fries, and each a roll. I swear I could have ordered two more rolls!! Such a wonderful place. The sashimi salad had the tiniest slivers of fish embedded in a pile of radish...couldn't even taste it. The smoked salmon was so smoke-flavored that I couldn't finish it. ***Please read if you are considering eating here.*** I worked in the restaurant industry for the better part of a decade. I am more than sensitive to the difficulties that small business owners face, especially in the food service industry. However, I felt the need to create an account and voice my opinion on the way this restaurant is run. I ate there yesterday, selecting the spicy pork bulgogi and taro milk tea with boba. Approximately six or seven hours later, I became violently ill. I will save you the more disgusting details of my food borne illness, but, suffice it to say, that 16 hours later I'm still not feeling well. To make matters worse, my wife called up to the restaurant as soon as they opened today to let them know about my illness so that they could check the temperatures or condition of the food products that I consumed yesterday. This was done as a courtesy, so that they did not run the risk of sickening anyone else and perhaps losing business in this way. However, rather than an acknowledgment that perhaps his restaurant was the source of my illness, the owner became verbally combative with my wife and denied any responsibility. He had the audacity to request that my wife take me to the emergency room in order to show him a receipt proving my foodborne illness. Something about incurring a several hundred dollar ER bill in order to get a refund of $17 did not seem economically smart. When my wife informed him of how ridiculous that idea was, he then recommended that, the next time I was vomiting, my wife put me on the phone so that he could have some proof that we are not trying to scam him. At this point my wife informed him that he should perhaps treat customers with a little bit more respect. He continued to deny any responsibility and maintained his combativeness with my wife. I've worked in the restaurant industry and I know that even the most diligent efforts to maintain food safety standards sometimes still allow an unfortunate illness to be passed along to the customer. However, it is only by recognizing the fact that your restaurant may have been the source of the issue that you can ensure that you do not sicken anyone else. If the owner's response to my wife is indicative of the way he typically responds to calls regarding foodborne illnesses, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that eating here poses a health risk. Please think twice before you subject yourself to a restaurant that operates in conscious disregard to their customers' health and wellbeing. read more
