I visited this location today. My 15 year old daughter passed out so we immediately took her up to the ER. While waiting in the lobby I called a loved one and she was praying for my daughter and I. The triage nurse calls my daughters name. We walk into the triage room. I'm standing there quiet, phone to my ear and the nurse tells my day to be weighed. She looks at me...and rudely says I can't be on my phone. I shake my head ok. We immediately sit in the chairs next to her desk. I hang up my call. Look at the nurse and say, it's been a lot today..can you just be kind, have compassion...my daughter passed out...I have surgery in less then 24 hrs. Tears are welling up. She says to me. Are you talking about me. I say yes. Please just be kind. She then says to me get out. Get up and get out. Demands I leave. Calls the security in to have me removed!!!! I ask to speak to a mgr...no one says a thing. Security tells me I got to go. Then tells me I can't be in there with my daughter to which I immediately tell him he is wrong. My daughter is under age. I then ask for a mgr. He goes to get one but another nurse calls my daughter. I speak to a mgr when things calm. She basically tells me the nurse was asking me to wait outside so someone else could help me.....not cool. I will be filing multiple complaints to make sure Lisa the triage nurse understands how NOT to act when people are in need. Not ok. I honestly don't know if I will be back. I'll more than likely drive far for better care. 100% believe it was fueled by racism!!! read more

PAIN has eased from 8 to 10. Apparently, there is no staff...to Meer the demand of the 7 who were ahead of me. (Jisrcan observation)....Shifts have changed. WakeMed Garner Healthplex - After 6hrs of WAITING in ED of Wake Med Garner.. I'm OVER IT - Hospitals Near Me - Garner, North Carolina

Brought my husband in to be seen. Was positive with flu from urgent care and was on day 4 with progressing symptoms. He has severe asthma and we brought him in with a fever of 103 that wouldn't break with meds, shortness of breath and a bp of 170/109 with a heart rate of 136. They triaged fast and after about an hour in the waiting room they proceeded to have us sit for hours once brought back to a "room" which was really the hallway. A Nurse with terrible bedside manner brought him some Tylenol and later Motrin and then proceeded to chastise us about my husband not taking ibuprofen and Tylenol together to break the fever when we already mentioned he DID and again chastised my husband about having his mask down while we sat again in the HALLWAY with make shift rooms made out of dividers. He's having shortness of breath lady. If you guys weren't so understaffed and could get people checked out then maybe he could have had an actual room and privacy where he could be free to breathe. Because of his care for others he did keep his mask up without any help or consideration from the nurses about his health. We sat so long we thought they forgot about us. Not even an IV administered. I work in health care/patient care and the only thing I can think of is UNACCEPTABLE for a country that prides itself on superiority. These nurses and providers need to make rounds and check on people at least every 30 minutes. People come to the ER because they obviously feel something is wrong only to sit for hours with their condition worsening while you type on a computer instead of checking on folks. Where is the care? I pray that one day someone doesn't die from their lack of professionalism and malpractice. read more

I've never been made to feel more under valued or insignificant ever. I was there by myself after being terribly ill for 12 days. I did my best communicate, was Set up in a hallway and Ignored for 2 hours. I needed tissues and vomit bag, both requests ignored. When tests came back neg. I was told to wait to call my uber until my paperwork was ready. Next thing I knew, I got a discharge TEXT and was told I could not wait for my uber to arrive ( which was 3 miles away). They made me wait outside for and then had security chase me outside. God help anyone without thier own advocates, as this hospital certainly doesn't care about patient wellbeing! When I looked at my paperwork, the reason documented for admission was "cough". None of the other symptoms including a headache rated at an 8 on the pain scale. At least if I die today, my daughter will certainly have a malpractice lawsuit to collect on! read more

UPDATE: I set up a payment plan with them because I couldn't pay the full balance at one time. Got home last night to a letter from their collection agency. So they sent me to collections while I was paying on my bill...this is undoubtedly the most unethical company I've ever encountered. ____________ Should have checked reviews before scheduling here. Having just moved to Raleigh, I went for a New Patient appointment. I had a pleasant conversation with the nurse who wrote down everything I wanted to address with the Nurse Practitioner which was about four things. I ended up seeing the NP for maybe seven minutes. In that time,we talked about only one thing. I told her how my ears had been in a fair amount of pain and that I kept waking up scratching them. Her response was to take an allergy pill daily, which I informed her I already do. Instead of suggesting I switch pills or anything else, she said, "Well, your ears are inflamed, but not much we can do, so just continue taking that pill." When I began to ask the other questions I had, she told me I'd need to come back and that this appointment was just a "getting to know you". I wasn't thrilled, but I said okay and left. I received a bill for $297 and after speaking with my insurance company, it appeared I had been charged for a "Moderate to Severe 45 min appointment". I'm absolutely livid. So the NP can spend a whole seven minutes with me, not address my reason for being there, yet bill for a full appointment? Ridiculous. I don't recommend this location at all. read more

I went in yesterday for my 16yo, the PA was very nice but the RN was not nice. The PA instructed her to administer oral Rx through a syringe. She drew up the Rx in a syringe and handed it to my son who did not have a clue what to do with it and then handed him apple juice so he looked at me like what to do, So I got up and administered it orally myself and chunked the syringe in the trash can. She did not greet us as we walked in the room she just stared off, as the PA called us back she was already present in the room. They made us go sit back in waiting room to complete registration and shortly after the RN comes out and I stated please have the head nurse come out so I can speak with her she instantly said did i do something, guilt all over her face. Make a long story short I spoke with another RN Brittney whom stated the other RN had just came back to work after postpartum. I can careless leave your problems at home. So yes I refused her to speak with me about discharge paperwork as she did not speak or instruct my child on how to administer the oral syringe. But yet can come out and speak on discharge paperwork in which is self explanatory. RN brittney who came out to speak with me was great and the PA who done our intake. read more

A heartfelt thank you to the Garner WakeMed Emergency Staff, Dr. Bleyer, RN Emily and other RN's and specialist on duty On Friday morning July 28, 2023. I retired from the NC State Highway Patrol after 30 years and I was always the one giving assistance to persons in need and not accustomed to being the needy one. On Friday morning I awoke early to begin my yard work in an effort to avoid the heat of the day. While trimming bushes I was stung by a yellow jacket bee. I didn't think much about it as I have been stung many times in my life and after the initial pain, all is well after the swelling subsides. I completed my yard work after approximately 1 hour and started towards the house. I became weak, labored breathing and broke out in hives. I got in the house I tried to drink some water and after each drink I had severe indigestion and my lips and mouth became numb. My wife drove me to WakeMed Emergency in Garner, NC. When I arrived at the ER, I was third in line to register and I explained to the registrar I had suffered a bee sting and was going to sit down as I was feeling faint and unsteady. Another registrar heard my conversation and immediately took my information. I proceeded to the waiting area and had just sat down when a male RN called my name and as I walking into the ER room he asked me to remove my face mask and immediately recognized I was experiencing an anaphylactic event. Within a minute the male RN had administered an EPYPEN injection to my upper thigh and another RN began an IV administering anti inflammatory and allergy medications. Another RN began heart, blood pressure and pulse monitoring and Dr. Bleyer was by my side checking my vitals and examined and questioning me. After 5 hours of monitored care I was released. There is no doubt that these gifted professionals from the registrar to nurses and Dr. Bleyer who understood the severity of anaphylactic shock and the importance of medical triage saved my life. I am deeply indebted to each of you who helped and looked after me. The compassion and standard of care I received is truly second to none. Each of you are appreciated and prayers of thanksgiving are lifted for each of you. Again a sincere thank you as I have more time to spend with my family and my new 12 day old grandson born at Wake Med Raleigh. Wake Med is #1 in my book and we as Garner residents are so fortunate to have a first class Wake Med Emergency facility. May God bless Wake Med. read more

I've had nothing but great experience at this hospital for x-rays on my badly sprained ankle. From registration to check out the staff was friendly and pleasant. The waiting environment is also pleasing. It's great not to have to drive to Raleigh for healthcare when living in rural areas. I have also used this center for other specialty doctors. If sitting for two hours in 8 out of 10 level pain from a herniated disc while people with the sniffles or a foot sprain are seen before you and the uncaring staff socializes and eats chips at their desk while you suffer and your pleading for relief is repeatedly ignored then this is the Emergency Department for you. I am a physician, but also a patient. My primary care physician is fine, I like him. Staff is fairly helpful, but it is a bit offputting and impersonal to be pointed to a red line on the floor to follow. Reminds me of how once full service gas stations became almost exclusively self service. Since I take myself back to the room myself, how soon till I need to take my own vitals. However, my real complaint is with their billing. As a radiologist I am familiar with medical imaging and hopefully I never worked at a place that charged $565 for a 2 view (AP and Lateral views) radiograph of the cervical spine. The separate more fair radiologist $25 professional fee was separate. Medicare pays at most about $90-100 and that includes the professional fee. That means me and my insurance are being charged at at least 5x over the medicare reimbursement. (medicaid, the state program for poverty patients pays even less). Point is my insurance and myself are getting price gouged, perhaps because the government and others are getting a discount. My insurance paid $245 which I think is more than fair, but I still owed the additional $320 for the 2 view neck x-rays. So far, my comments to Wake Med are not dealt with in earnest. Sure, I can afford to be overcharged and just pay the bill, but most people cannot. Apparently WakeMed does have a website link to at least give the appearance of complying with the transparency law, but they only provided me the link, in a communication after my complaint. This information should be front and center, as we are too often made to write a blank check of trust for healthcare. Small wonder the single-payer, government healthcare for everyone has attraction to many. Please remember, any "script" from your doctor can be addressed anywhere in the state, so do not be afraid to ask for prices and shop around. Why spend more money out of pocket for an x-ray than most insurance companies and the government pay for a CT scan? read more

I am livid! I was seen in the emergency room in the beginning of January. I received bills from the hospital, physician, and a few weeks after my initial visit I get a bill from a pathologist. Why should I have to pay a pathologist individually? I have never in all of my life had to pay a pathologist separately. Unbelievable. read more

I've always had a positive experience when seen at this site. The location is convenient, staff friendly and helpful, and if you need to have an x-ray or lab work done, you don't have to travel to another site. Since moving from New York, I've felt very comfortable being a part of the Wake Med family. read more

My husband requested an appointment online. The request was accepted but when the lady called to confirm she was very rude and told him that was only for existing patients. She clearly wanted him to cancel the appointment due to insurance. WakeMed as a whole is great but this location could use someone more courteous and professional! I started going to this practice 5 yrs ago. It was close to my house, they had multiple specialists in the building. I have a primary care dr. who has no idea why I am there. The records are on computer, they must not show previous visits or history on the open screen for your current visit. I've had to mention prior problem. When I had my second bone with this Dr. she mentioned something about prior operations, I have never had surgery. She went to a different panel of my history seeing it was just the lower spine due to arthritis. I'm kind of stuck because of my insurances. The Orthopedist gave me a cortisone shot in my kneecap and he had to have hit something because I almost passed out he just left the room and the med assistants gave me water a cool towels until I felt I could walk. All I can say is that this Hospital was well staffed, friendly and very professional. The admissions staff even came to my room to complete the paperwork! The nurses, doctor and all the staff had a great bedside manner and made me feel comfortable. They let my wife stay in the room (except for X-ray) and after a short paperwork review, discharge was less than 2 minutes. I highly recommend them. read more

The emergency Staff and all the employees from Registering, triage nurse, radiology, respiratory therapist, the CNA, Nurses, PA, and the doctors were absolutely amazing. We could not ask for a better staff or an experience with this emergency room. We were truly blessed with wonderful people to care for my husband. read more

The worst primary care EVER! Doctors are out of touch...dont read charts well for past history or listen. I am applying for disability and it took them 4 months of disability requesting them to send medical records in. I would call...and they still didnt send. They dont return phone calls. Billing is confused. Look there are plenty of primary care doctors out there who are good do not go here read more
