The pain was so intense when I walked into the NCDMV I began perspiring all over my face and body. I became very nauseous, weak, & I had chest palpitations. I stood there and an employee came to check on me. An Examiner walked me over to the chairs. She took the time to be so comforting and kind to me. This awesome kind Examiner brought a fresh bottle of water for me and some paper towels to dry my face off. The Examiner helped me get to the right desk and made sure I was ok. The other Examiner at the desk calmly talked me through doing what I needed to do for my Real ID. What a sweetheart also besides the initial Examiner! Between these two remarkable kind lady Examiners I got through the visit just fine! These two remarkable lady Exsminers were Examiner Wilson and Examiner Thorpe! Kudos to these two professional yet very kind ladies made my visit very comfortable. ​​This was such an uplifting visit. These two sweet helpful Angels were there at a time I needed it! Text messages kept us informed about our place in line. The staff was smiling, kind, and courteous. My mother was offered a chair since the computer was running slow. We were near the end of the process when it turned out the computer system was down statewide. I asked if I could take my mother home since staff did not know when it would be fixed, and the woman handling her paperwork arranged for me to return before 4:30 to pick up the ID without needing an appointment or my mother. To my surprise, I received a phone call letting me know the paperwork was ready. I stopped by to pick it up and was handed the ID on the spot. Considering the "complications" with the computer system, this was still a pleasant experience. The team there is wonderful!

She indicated verbally I would not need an appointment or need to wait in line that she would look for me and instructed me to explain upon arrival that only payment was necessary. Upon arrival and explanation was issued a number and told to wait in my car again and when I had the nerve of being angry about being lied to was told not to come back. Abolish these state run rackets and replace these imbeciles with private drivers license businesses who compete for business. Overnight the lines and waiting will disappear and these incompetent personnel, paid from my tax dollars, will be forced into seeking private sector jobs instead of being paid for failing the tax paying citizens responsible for their salaries and pensions. There is recessed entrance a large vertical windows on the second and third stories. The roof line is flat. In the interior, the main courtroom is located on the third story and has a balcony on the rear side. Johnston County was formed in 1746 and Clayton was selected as the county seat with the county's first courthouse. The seat was moved to Smithfield in 1771 and the new courthouse was built here. A third courthouse was built in 1786 and then a fourth in 1843. This one is the fifth and is considered "the old courthouse" as the current one was built in the 1980s. There is a Civil War marker on the front steps - General William T Sherman used the 1771 courthouse as his headquarters on his march toward Raleigh. On April 12th 1865 Sherman received a telegram from General Ulysses S Grant informing him of General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox while in Smithfield. There is also a WWI memorial with a "doughboy" holding his rifle "In memory of the illustrious dead of Johnston County who died in the Great World War 1917-1919" with a list of names. It's just a couple of blocks from the State Capital and the History Museum. Also great to just walk around all the historic well marked streets in downtown Raleigh. We parked in the covered garage adjacent to the Supreme Court but there is parking all over it seemed. This review is mainly for the building and service there itself. The center is nice and bright, very clean and well maintained upon entering. The appearance is modern with official tone/classic governmental atmosphere along with it. There is security to go through upon entering and it is very TSA-like. The staff in security were nice and helpful, and the process did not take long. I found staff inside very helpful to ask if you needed any assistance in where you needed to go and areas were well marked. The area for jurors to go was nice, simple but well maintained with different types of chairs/desks/furniture to use and the process to get checked in for the day flowed well. Note there are not a lot of power outlets in the juror pool area, I found them in the seats in the far corners, just a heads up if needed. Of course, jury duty itself is, well, what jury duty is. There is an on-site cafe as well if you want to eat there, a nice touch for what can be a long day or days. Restroom facilities are near to the area and well maintained/clean. This county facility is a well cared for resource and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was inside.

It is the Wake County Judicial Center. There are other several services here but the most popular is that traffic court is located within it. I am aware of this because I facilitate the driver improvement program which court now mandates for traffic violations. I have also helped students with interpretation from English to Spanish. The place is as secured as you'd expect, dont bring lighters or nail clippers. But the security there are always polite and courteous. There is parking on the street, which I recommend. The parking lots are a bit pricey but if you're running late, you may have to chose that option. You can pay on the street with an app, card or coins. Reach out if you ever need help with a traffic ticket.
