All the staff we interacted with were very nice, especially when I lost an item and the front desk gave us a call later for a status update. Parking is easy and convenient, and the Coconut Marketplace with ABC store within walking distance really made this location awesome with easy access to shops, grocery, and food. We really missed the convenience later in the trip at another resort. Downtown Kapaa is also a short drive or walk away. The lack of elevators is a major downside at this location, however. For our party, staying three floors up with no elevators was inconvenient but doable, but for others it could be impossible so please be aware and call ahead if this is an issue for you. I did hear that the resort will be undergoing a renovation soon, and I sincerely hope elevators are a priority.

We booked through the direct website and the photos that they had of the condos on the site were definitely a lot more updated and nice compared to the unit we stayed in. My husband & I aren't that fussy about things being outdated but I feel that they should have made it clear when booking that the photos they have up might not be the exact unit you think you are booking and could be completely different. We also both felt the unit wasn't very clean, you could see hair on the bathroom floors, the carpet was really stained and dirty as well. And the bed was so uncomfortable and really firm. Additionally when I read reviews on these condos all of them mentioned air conditioning so I assumed ours would have ac as well but ours did not. Even with all the windows open at night it was very uncomfortable trying to sleep with the unit being so hot. The front door lock was broken and we had to double check it was locked because it wouldn't lock every time which was a concern. Overall it wasn't a terrible place to stay, its Kauai at the end of the day and the grounds were beautiful but I just can't justify the amount we paid for what we received. On a more positive note the staff at the office were so friendly and I really enjoyed talking to them!

We checked in, and right away, the room wasn't impressive. There was a strange scent lingering in the air--like something was being covered up with multiple plug-ins. Everything felt dated: the furniture, the decor. The kitchen looked decent with updated appliances, but that was about it. We tried to brush it off and went to the pool (which looked much smaller in person than in the photos), then came back to the room. That's when the real nightmare began. My youngest daughter went to take a shower in one of the bathrooms. Moments later, I hear screaming. I run in and see sewage--yes, actual dark, smelly sewage--coming up from the shower drain. My daughter is crying, I'm shaking, and the stench is overwhelming. We immediately called the front desk, and someone was sent to "unblock" it. I begged the manager to move us to another room due to the smell and potential health hazard, and all he said was: "There are no rooms. You can check out, or stay and we'll send housekeeping." Excuse me? This isn't a spilled drink--they're talking about cleaning up sewage with a mop? I asked if they planned to professionally decontaminate the area, and the answer was no. Just their regular housekeeper. It wasn't until I was clearly desperate--three kids, nighttime, a trip we booked months ago--that they finally offered to send us to their sister hotel for one night. But we'd have to pack up, drive there, then return the next day--basically waste precious time and energy. This was a special occasion trip. We paid extra for an ocean view, and it was supposed to be an anniversary celebration. And to make things worse, nobody seemed to care. The manager responded with a condescending tone like I was overreacting. He actually said, "These things happen once in a blue moon." Okay--then have a plan for when they do! It honestly felt like he thought he was doing me a favor by offering a one-night refund or a small room at a different hotel. No real apology. No accountability. Just a lot of shrugging and gaslighting. We ended up staying, but were only refunded for one night. The second bathroom was out of commission (we didn't feel safe using it), so our whole family had to share one shower for the rest of the trip. The awful smell never fully left the room. Also--the in-unit washer and dryer? The washer smelled horrible, was full of sand, and looked like it had mold in the plastic lining. Just gross. This whole experience left a horrible taste in our mouths. I honestly don't understand how this place is being managed. If the rooms are owned by individuals and managed by this hotel group, do the owners even know how badly things are being handled? What was supposed to be a beautiful anniversary trip with our kids turned into one of the worst travel experiences we've ever had. Stay far, far away from this place!!!

They just encourage you to tip the valet every time. The rooms were spacious and clean. The lanai (balcony) was great also. We stayed on the 2nd floor and my kids would sit and eat outside thanks to the amazing Kauai weather. I like the filtered water dispenser machines throughout the property. We didn't have to buy water because we re-used the water bottles they gave us. There's a restaurant on the property that we did not get to try. The hotel is located on the beach also. Too bad the waves were too rough so we did not go in the water there. There are 2 pools and 1 hot tub. You can also rent free bikes to bike around the property. The front desk person said there's a bike trail we can bike for a few miles. This hotel is only about 10 min from Lihue Airport also.

The buildings are old and retrofitted, but honestly I am picky with hotels, and this place is great. It is on the beach, maybe not a good idea to go for a swim on that shoreline, but just being so close to the ocean is wonderful. Each room has a quiet AC unit, and a ceiling fan. They offer Kauai Coffee K-Cups to use in the Keurig in your room. Includes disposable hot cups, little creamer cups, and sugars. All rooms have mini fridges. They have a handful of kitchenette rooms if you needed a sink, bigger fridge, and microwave. All rooms have a lanai, the 1st floors have a lanai that leads directly to the lawn or pool area outside your building. There are 2 pools, 1 hot tub, and fire pit, lawn games, and beach cruiser bikes you can borrow (for free!!) to cruise around by the hotel. There are free filtered water stations around the property. There is even a free photo booth in the corner of the lobby, and it prints out 2 strips of 3 photos, so retro! The Lava Lava Restaurant is on site, and a good option. NEARBY: The hotel is also located next to Coconut Marketplace which includes a large general store (it's the same company as ABC stores) but they also have prepared foods, coffee bar, and smoothie bar. There are also restaurants over there to choose from, and small shops to browse. Just past that shopping center, there is also a Long's Drugs (aka: CVS) if you want to go for a long stroll.

After a failed attempt at staying at a different property on Poipu that turned out to be ant…read moreinfested (ants were literally crawling all over the bed, walls, floors and shower), my wife found Aston Islander available for a VERY last min booking on the same day at a reasonable rate. Check-in took awhile, but the front desk people were super friendly and provided us a complimentary bottle of wine when they heard that we were staying for our honeymoon. Daily housekeeping is apparently not offered, but we did ask that fresh towels be provided daily. This request was hit or miss, and we often found ourselves needing to go to the front desk to ask for a change in towels the next day. The room itself is surprisingly spacious and clean, although older and dated. It was quite amazing to wake up to the sight of the beautiful Pacific Ocean right outside our patio window every morning. Although the waters on this side of the island were not protected and too rough for us to think about jumping into the ocean safely. We were told that seals and sea turtles would occasionally make their way onto the beach, however this was apparently more of a rare sighting and never materialized during our stay. We actually just wound up going to Poipu most evenings to see the sea turtles come in to rest on the beach. There is a DVD machine near the front desk where you can rent movies for free. And a Playstation in the room to watch the DVD's with. However, the dual shock controller definitely had taken a lot of abuse and would just rumble randomly whenever the power was turned on. And most of the buttons either did not work or would only work sporadically. There are no elevators here, despite the various buildings being at least 3 stories tall. We wound up having a 2nd floor room and found ourselves hauling all of our heavy luggage up multiple flights of stairs. If you are elderly or disabled, you should definitely request a 1st floor room. Additionally, they do not have any real lighting on the outdoor common areas that connect the rooms with the front foyer. Instead, there are just the small, garden solar lights stuck into the ground along the paved path. This is honestly quite a safety issue as the area is literally pitch black at night as you're either leaving the property or coming back. With only the small lights on the floor to guide your way while you hope you don't trip over any cracks or unseen objects. The hotel has a large, private parking lot that is shared with the nearby businesses on the same property lot. However despite the large amount of parking spots, we constantly found ourselves needing to circle the lot looking for a free spot whenever we returned back later at night. We suspect that some locals may be using their parking lot for temporary/long-term parking, as we did see a few vehicles that had multiple tickets on the windshield during our stay with warnings of towing due to abandonment. Despite the tickets/warnings, we did not see any of these vehicles actually towed during our entire stay here. Despite the issues outlined above, we did overall enjoy our stay here. And would recommend this property if you're looking for a slightly more affordable option than many of the high-end resorts that dot this island.

We had a garden-facing room on the third floor that still offered a decent ocean view. The room was a bit dated, but I loved having a little kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink. Plus, the DVD rental in the lobby was a nice touch since every room has a DVD player. There were a few surprises, like no elevator, so lugging our bags up three flights was a workout. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we got two free drink tickets for the Tiki Bar, which made the wait more enjoyable. However, the Wi-Fi in our room was spotty, and there wasn't much help available. Luckily, I managed to hop onto the neighbor's Wi-Fi to stream Netflix, though the local TV never worked, which was a bit of a bummer. We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. There is a shopping center across the street to buy things for the condo. We will stay here again next time in the area.

It was raining when we had our tour. The boat is covered and when you're in the fern grotto there are so many overhanging trees that we didn't even feel the rain. This boat tour was very relaxing and informative. The boat moved at a slow pace - even my husband who has motion sickness was able to enjoy this boat ride. On the way to the fern grotto there are stories of places you're passing as well as Hawaiian and festive (it was the holiday time) songs. It's a family run organization and many generations are involved in this tour. On the way back home there are more songs and dances and everyone gets to learn how to dance the hula. You get to disembark the boat and take a short walk to the fern grotto. What a beautiful place! So much greenery. The only way to get to this grotto is from this boat tour, so it is a peaceful and uncrowded place. We're glad we took this tour and recommend it as a fun and low stress activity on the island. It's good for all ages. There is plenty of free parking. Free cold water is available on the boat.
