Open layout with a large bathroom and huge walk in closet area. Service: Was overall really impressed . Wife had an allergic reaction to something one evening. We called the front desk who unlocked the on site shop to get her allergy medication after the shop had closed for the night. All of our servers at the restaurants were very friendly, pleasant, and warm. Housekeeping was slow and did not make up our room during the few hours we were out from morning to early afternoon, but we called the service team and it was made by the time we got back from dinner. Fitness center was spacious and had plenty of equipment/machines - never felt crowded despite being busy. Restaurant food: The breakfast buffet and dinner meal we had were very good. The buffet in particular was great - so many dishes, omelet station, delicious Hawaiian coffee, etc. Main complaint is that the hotel felt quite packed (including the pool and beach area). We went during peak season so I guess this is to be expected. Tough to avoid though given this will always be a popular destination for non hotel guests as well. It's expensive for what it is, especially compared to international resort destinations at the same price level (a function of proximity to CA I guess) but overall was a worthwhile stay. 5 stars for the views and service t(hat went above and beyond).

Who knows. I was a child, and a guy who lived down the street that my mom made me call "Uncle" told me it was. I've trusted that man with absolutely zero credentials for over 30 years. Well, I finally made it to Kauai, and let me tell you... it is absolutely gorgeous. Lush. Green. Rainy. And now I also look like Newman from Seinfeld. The circle of life. I spent four nights at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, and it was... nice. Let me start with the good. My room was beautiful, the views were incredible, and the grounds are spectacular. Tropical plants everywhere, waterfalls pouring down the mountains, and postcard views in every direction. Now... the not-so-great. The food was aggressively mediocre. By day three I was fantasizing about a microwave burrito like it was a Michelin starred meal. I would've fought someone for a Cup-O-Noodles. I think it's called 1 Hotel because it's the one hotel around, and they know you've got nowhere else to eat. Unfortunately, all three restaurants seemed to have the exact same menu. Room service, The Sandbox, and the sushi restaurant all blurred together into one very expensive wagyu smashburger. The staff? Honestly, I can barely review them because I hardly interacted with anyone. Nobody bothered me, which some people probably love. The pool is beautiful... but there are nowhere near enough lounge chairs. Every morning it looked like the midwest trophy wives stormed the pool deck at 6:00 a.m. to reserve every chair with towels. If you want to sit within eyesight of the water, you're going to need an alarm clock and the competitive spirit of a suburban mother on vacation. Which brings me to... the kids. Look, if you have kids, that's wonderful. They're just not for me. Splashing. Screaming. Running. Falling. Crying. Parents yelling at their kids. Parents yelling at other people's kids. Kids somehow yelling at adults. It was like spending the afternoon inside a Dave & Buster's that happened to overlook the Pacific Ocean. If you're looking for a quiet couples getaway, I'd probably avoid summer break. There is an adults-only pool, but it's pretty small and mostly occupied by guys taking "business calls" while crushing Michelob Ultras. There's also a tiny beach area that's... ehhhhh. Now the spa? That's where this place shines. The second you walk in, it smells incredible. The kind of smell that immediately convinces your brain you've become a much healthier, more emotionally stable person. I got one of the best massages I've ever had from an amazing therapist who somehow found muscles I didn't even know existed and negotiated a peace treaty with all of them. I walked out feeling completely relaxed, refreshed, and significantly less judgmental about everything else. I'd absolutely go back for another massage, and next time I'd definitely book a facial too. My biggest surprise was the cleanliness... or lack of it. For a luxury resort, it never quite felt polished. Dead flies sat on windowsills around the property. The carpets always looked a little grimy. There was a half-finished iced coffee sitting outside my elevator that stayed there for a day and a half. None of it was a huge deal individually, but after a while you start noticing all the little things. Overall, I had an amazing trip because Kauai itself is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I stay at 1 Hotel again? Probably not. For what they're charging, I expected luxury. Instead, it felt like I paid luxury prices for a really nice hotel that still needed someone to walk around with a rag and a trash bag. If I'm spending that kind of money again, I'd probably book the Four Seasons.

THE CROWNING TOUCH: the room & lanai overlook a luscious roaring waterfall flowing in the Kilauea River, ensconced in a ravine of gorgeous tropical foliage. The river serves as beautiful white noise to block any noise (like morning roosters) but this is a very quiet place anyway. You can't get that guarantee at a hotel. ~ She leaves your beautiful breakfast outside your door in the morning. You eat alone in your room or the lanai in your PJs (if you like). There are no guests/strangers to meet. ~ The room has a ceiling fan & 2 personal fans for those rare 2 minutes when it's hot) 2 of the 4 walls open to the outdoors via half screened sliding windows and sliding glass doors. Breezes & beauty-no bugs. They have valet parking and parking for guest staying here. It's even great that they have a parking lot just outside the front entrance for the public access to the beach. So I was able to park and walk into the facility without paying anything. They have updated their facility and remodeled a lot of the units. The lobby area was nice and downstairs. I remember from before that all of the food and restaurants are downstairs. The pool area was really clean and that they also had redone some of that surfacing. It wasn't too crowded, which was nice and we walked around all of the different building areas. They have added a lot more units and it was very big compared to long ago. There wasn't any beach access like before I think you had to go around to the other area to enter that area to access the beach. Facility is clean and very nice. It was so much fun to reminisce and go back to the old complex.

The two restaurants on the property open at 3pm, and are actually closed two days of the week (Wednesday and Thursday were the closed days when we were there). We had to go to the 1 Hotel Resort for breakfast and lunch, which isn't far and can be accessed through the hotels golf cart transportation system, but defeats the purpose of the resort being the destination itself. And if you plan on going anywhere, you NEED a car, there are no Ubers or Lyfts around. We felt stranded when we arrived from our flight at lunch time, starving, and learned the restaurants are closed for another 3 hours, until 3pm. It does have a coffee shop that has drinks, cold and hot homemade sandwiches and snacks for on the go, but the hours it's open depends. The flyer they hand out says it's open from 7am-4pm but we just watched them close today at 1:30pm. There's a QR code that says to scan for live hours, which tells me it doesn't follow the 7am-4pm time frame at all. How would we then know when it's open to plan for it? Thankfully we got in before they closed for a lunch snack. That said, the operating times that can be inconvenient and if you want a proper sit down meal it's not the place. I found myself confused at times, wondering who this place was for because at times I needed food or simply a place to sit, everything seemed to be closed, all the way to the detail of seating areas on a busy dinner night. It's almost as if this isn't a resort meant to be open or helpful for guests living there. Most of the staff is welcoming, I saw one review mention some animosity towards tourists which I could definitely sense at the front desk with one of the ladies, but the rest of the ladies were nice, I think it was just her. 1 Hotel definitely has better service, where they actually critically think to go above and beyond on getting you what you need, though that's expected due to the price difference. The room was clean and had what we needed, full kitchen, master bed and a separate space with a pull out bed that was useful for our family who stayed with us to help with our baby. Overall, I'd rethink calling this location a resort, it's nice but a bit misleading.

You're in the country here, far removed from hotel/motel tourist-type locations. The house itself is comfortable and inviting. There's a really nice kitchen that is the center of the main dining/family room. It's set up perfectly for relaxing with family or friends. From the lanai you have a view of the verdant hills while hearing the waves crashing at nearby Moloa'a bay. There are two kayaks at the house that you paddle downstream a few hundred yards to the beach. The beach at Moloa'a bay is great. We were there during some big waves, but still could swim there without fear of getting smashed to pieces. During the summer, it's apparently as calm as a swimming pool with good snorkeling. The backyard at Jade Lily is a magical spot, with a giant shade tree and the stream rolling by. There's a big gas grill that we gave a serious work out. The nightly cost for Jade Lily was a screaming deal. Dealing with the very friendly owners was a breeze. Without question, next time I'm in Kauai, I'm going to stay at Jade Lily.

Our unit was more than spacious for two people and had all basic utilities.The views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay were just outside our windows!!! We scored with the location just outside of town with a short drive to the town center where we enjoyed several food options. We decided to act all touristy for a few days and explored some of the other hotels nearby which was nice to see and what the offered. If you want that small town vibe where you fit in with the locals and have a wonderful spacious time share, this is your place.

The accommodations were great with very nice beds and bedding, nice kitchen appliances and Satellite TV and Wifi. Since this was a work trip for me, I found the amenities very useful as well as the ample space. We made use of the local grocery stores and cooked-in most nights and the kitchen was very well stocked. I also very much appreciate the prompt response from Blair Pruitt.
