It wasn't too long of a wait for our food and service was good overall. The cashier was super friendly and helpful. The salsa bar is located near the exit, which I and other customers did not notice at first. I was able to get some extra salsa before we got our food. My fish tacos were just ok. I liked the pico de gallo and green salsa as well as my chips and salsa. The fish itself was mushy on the inside and did not taste fresh. The other ingredients however, like the salsa, rice, beans, cabbage and corn tortilla all seemed fresh. My boyfriend got the crispy fish burrito, which he devoured and enjoyed. I was surprised to see a Wahoo's inside of the South Coast mall as there are so many pricey restaurants surrounding it. There is an inside dining area which extends to seating in the mall area as well. It is tucked in a corner so there isn't much shopping traffic in the area so you can take a break from all the people to grab a quick bite. The menu is very reasonably priced and portions are what you would expect. I ordered the crispy fish taco. I liked the citrus slaw and the cilantro sauce but the fish reminded me of a frozen fish stick from those kids meals served in a cafeteria. I also liked the salsa/sauce bar so should've ordered some chips to take advantage of that! I believe the value is good for the price ($5 per taco) especially in a mall like the South Coast plaza so if you're looking for a quick bite, this will do. But personally, I think the fish tacos at California fish grill are better and slightly cheaper. read more

I got the chipotle salad and a soda it was almost $20 with tax. I got a chicken caesar burrito and a fish taco at rubios with a free kids meal that had 2 fish tacos beans and chips with a deal and paid less than $10 for enough food for two meals drink included. Or at california fish grill I pay $13 and get 2 huge wild caught rockfish filets on a rockfish bowl with rice and kale salad. With the deal it came with a drink. Food was decent but not worth the money at all. The bowl was even smaller than rubio's. Rubio's Coastal Grill and California Fish Grill are wahoo's top 2 competitors and they are miles better and cheaper. Both also have deals in their apps while wahoo's has no deals. Zero reason to eat here when I can go to those two and eat better tasting food, for cheaper, and bigger portions relative to what I paid for. Also rubio's has coke. read more

I've been a regular for 15-years. The service, food quality and food taste have suddenly taken a deep dive. As one of my family's very favorite fast food restaurants, I don't lightly share that this was my last visit. The Togo order was unacceptable. Tried the chipotle salad. Wahoos is one of the few that I try anything new because it's at least good. It was awful: they didn't pack the dressing, there was a few tiny pieces of meet. It looked completely unappetizing. It tasted worse. Nobody finished their lunch and nobody saved leftovers for later. I had no qualms when the prices went up. But then the quality noticeably shifted far down. Everything was a-ok. I ordered the two taco platter (fish, with black beans and rice). I assumed the fish was going to be breaded, but it was grilled. The fish tasted fresh and was topped with shredded cabbage and came with a small cup of pico de gallo. The platter itself didn't have much flavor, no salt, nothing. Ok, I love Wahoos and use to go to this location for years. Hadn't gone in several years because I have been going to a different location. Wow, what happened? I only ordered my normal bean and cheese burrito and couldn't even finish it because it was tasteless! lol! Not sure how you can mess up a plain burrito! Came here on a Tuesday around 7pm and very happy we did! The server / cashier was very nice and welcoming. I like the fact that their menus are eye level in the ordering line as well as above the registers. The photos are also very helpful. The food is almost a replica of the photos shown online & on the menu. I ordered the citrus slaw burrito and my mom and sister ordered the protein bowl. The burrito was a very nice size, I ate half and saved half for lunch tomorrow. The slaw tasted very good, especially topped with the green salsa. My sister and mom thought the protein bowls were good but not very filling. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. The menus are very descriptive and show lots of photos. Stopped by here for a casual meal/snack while on a outing on this side of the mall. This side does not have a lot of food options, minus Ruby's, so we decided to grab a quick snack here for our daughter. We ordered a burrito plate that came with rice and beans. Surprisingly, this was a very large and tasty burrito. We got a carne asada one and we were able to all munch on it. They had a nice salsa bar and seating in booths and open tables, as well as highchairs. I would come here again if on this side of the mall. read more

The Crispy Fish Taco was made of an Alaska Flounder finger in a crispy seasoned batter along with melted cheese and citrus slaw (shredded red/green cabbage and herbs) on a soft yellow corn tortilla. The saltiness of the fish paired perfectly with the refreshing, acidic slaw, and the taco was made even better by the pico de gallo and salsas offered at the self-serve salsa bar, which included roasted tomato, fuego, and my favorites, the green sauce and Maria's salsa, both of which were creamy and flavorful. The taco was my favorite dish, but I also tried the Shrimp Ceviche, made of chopped shrimp, green onion, tomato, cilantro, pico de gallo, jalapeño, and citrus juice, and served with sliced avocado and tortilla chips. While decent, the ceviche didn't taste particularly fresh, and the avocado and lettuce that came with the dish were a bit browned. Finally, I tried the Protein Bowl, which came with sautéed veggies (bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, zucchini), citrus slaw, and avocado, along with two proteins (I tried the chicken and shrimp). A shame... grew up eating Wahoos since I was 6 years old. Heck I grew up eating at the original one in Costa Mesa and this was my favorite place for years! I even worked at this location because I loved the food so much. Sad to say that the quality has deteriorated beyond recognition. From the cringey and failed taco "style" switch ups and promos to the return to "classic 1988"... Bland taste, cheap quality. Only indistinguishable by consumers with no culture or taste for authentic flavors. I can't imagine this chain staying in business for long but it's already dead to me. Food was good but definitely didn't taste like how I remembered it when there were several locations in San Diego. Like a lot of places prices rose and quantity and quality plummeted. Service was quick so that was a plus. We were able to sit in a seat where you can overlook the outside of the mall (really you see the parking structure). You can people watch though. Self serving of your salsas are available. I like the green creamy one the best. Overall, not sure if I would return over n' over again like so used to when it was here in San Diego. read more

The service is slow, but the quality is superior to other taco restaurants in the area. It's been a while since our last visit and we wanted to see if they had returned to their pre pandemic business model. No. Our food was good but the pandemic changes need to go! On top of that, like our last visit the Sculpin Ballast Point keg blew while pouring my beer and they did not have a replacement keg! We ordered guacamole and chips, Malibu teriyaki bowl, and childrens cheese enchilada. Definitely exceed expectations! My partner and I were very very hungry and decided to stop here on our way out of the mall. We split the citrus slaw burrito with shrimp and an order of onion rings. Glad we decide to split because the burrito was HUGE!! The slaw didn't have as much flavour as I was expecting but I enjoyed the crunch it added but the shrimp inside were great! Always the best perfect fish taco's until this visit. Not sure what went wrong but the fried fish taco usually has lots of cabbage and salsa and a bigger piece of fish. I know we all have bad days so I'll try again next week but Wahoos please don't add French fries and onion tings to your menu. Keep it to what you do best.
