Absolutely disgusting! Upon entering we were told we could not be seated and they were only taking takeout orders. That was strange since we saw tables full of plates from previous customers. That should have been our first cue to leave, 6 people on staff, no face masks, and no clean tables but we decided to just order anyway. I figured maybe they had a big dinner rush. We sat at the counter and were asked if we needed menus. Sure I'll take a menu since they are pretty helpful when ordering at a restaurant. No less than 5 seconds after receiving our menus the staff started to fuss and curse each other out as if we and the other customers were invisible and not there. One guy even walked off the line basically saying he wasn't going to work. Meanwhile we take a closer look and the line is filthy. Between the cursing, dirty floor, counters, tables, and told we couldn't dine-in because you just didn't feel like cleaning off tables is enough for me to never return to that location. Oh did I forget the customers coming out as we were going in saying they were being antagonized by the staff? Actually that should have been our first cue not to go in. Not knowing the back story we entered at our own risk. In stark contrast, further down Watson near the mall, the Centerville location was immaculate. We were greeted, seated, and given menus. The staff was friendly, accommodating, the food was excellent, and they exhibited what teamwork looks like on a shift. Guess who kept coming in the doors? People who experienced the Twilight Zone Waffle House where we ran from. Is the manager aware he's operating two different places???

That is not the same as knowing what they're doing. Plenty can make chicken hot. Fewer can make it memorable. Peggy's managed the rarer thing. This was the kind of fried chicken that makes a man quiet for a minute and reconsider whether he has properly valued his past blessings. They had other meats on the menu, and I do not doubt they were prepared by decent people with honest intentions, but ordering anything besides the fried chicken would have felt like showing up at a revival and asking for directions to a yoga class. And the sides, Lord help me, the sides were no afterthought. If I had not attended the funerals myself, I might have suspected my great grandma, grandma, and momma were back there in the kitchen, keeping an eye on the pots. Forgive me, Mammaw G, Mammaw, and Mom, but Peggy's had the better day with that chicken. I say that with love, respect, and a willingness to dodge a lightning bolt if one has been set aside for me. Fried okra, green beans, sweet potatoes, and mac and cheese, which any Southerner with good sense knows is a vegetable when it needs to be, spread across our plates like a family reunion of the righteous. The only medical advisory I'd offer is this: if your doctor has warned you against coating your insides with salt, you may want to admire from a respectful distance. And the sweet tea was right. Not tea-flavored water with ambition. Sweet tea. Properly made. The sort that lets you know nobody in the building is interested in modern nonsense. Next time I'm rolling down I-20, I may well make the turn toward Wrens again just to see whether Peggy's can do it twice. But judging by the regulars, the handshakes, the easy way the staff knew folks by name, and the fact they made us feel halfway local ourselves, I'd say this was no one-off. This felt less like a lucky meal and more like the kind of place that still believes doing something well is reason enough to keep doing it.

My grandson and I were hungry so we scurried over to get a place to go because they close at 8:30. We were kindly greeted and informed that the cooks have left the building but they had buffet style. The server came out and prepared our to go plates with care. We ordered sweet ice teas, had great conversation and I'm out merry way. I had Chuck beef over rice, candied yams, lima beens and a biscuit. OMG the food was as it should be, comfort food. Every bite was delicious and that biscuit melted in my mouth. The ice tea was perfectly crafted. My grandson had fried chicken in Mac n Cheese. He didn't expound in its taste but he gobbled it up with no complaints. I would say that he enjoyed it. I know the locals enjoy this restaurant because it seems like Peggy's is a staple in the community. It's too bad that I won't be back here but I am glad that I supported this restaurant rather than going to a fast food that's close by. Thank you to the staff for making us feel welcomed and by serving us with care. I choose chuck beef over rice, yams, lima beens, and a biscuit. I felt nostalgic eating this food reminiscing from days of past, living in the south and eating soul food

For cocktails, my husband ordered the Mango Sunshine & I ordered the Cucumber Mojito. Both were refreshing & tasted good overall, but did seem quite weak. For dinner, my husband ordered the braised short rib from the Specials menu & I ordered the lamb chops, one of my absolute favorite foods. I ordered the lamb chops medium rare & they were quite overdone, with the last one I tried to eat being well done. The brussels sprouts on the other hand were quite underdone, and were solid to the point that I couldn't even stick my fork through them. I asked for asparagus as a replacement, which ended up being underdone as well. My husband felt his mashed potatoes were too salty & that his broccoli was cooked into mush, but had no issues with the short rib. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly, & the complimentary biscuits were absolutely delicious. Overall, for the high prices they charge at this establishment, it is absolutely not worth it. I do not think we will be returning.

From the moment we walked in, the vibe felt like a cozy cabin retreat with rustic accents. It was clear that a lot of intentional thought went into designing this space, it's one of those cafés where you keep noticing little details the longer you're inside. Merch is everywhere in a very on-brand way. Immediately to the right, there are T-shirts, mugs, and other coffee-related items for sale, including ground coffee beans. Just about everything is branded with the café's name. Personally, I'm not sure I'd wear a hat or T-shirt with a restaurant's name unless I worked there, but I can see how fans of the brand would enjoy it. Seating options are plentiful and varied, which I really appreciated. You can sit inside, on the rooftop, or on the outside patio. According to their website, they also rent out the Legacy Room, rooftop, fire pit in the rear, or even the entire house, with pricing clearly listed. They also host monthly events, which makes this spot feel very community-oriented. While it wasn't super crowded when we arrived, the chatter was lively and created a nice, welcoming energy. The staff matched that vibe, friendly, warm, and attentive from the start. The menu offers a variety of coffee drinks, teas, and smoothies, along with breakfast, lunch, and a custom brunch menu on Sundays. I would love to see more vegetarian options added to the menu, though. That said, there was a solid pastry selection, including several vegan and gluten-free options, which was nice to see. I ordered one of the January specials, the White Mocha Valencia Latte, and my husband went with an Americano. Drinks are available in 12oz, 16oz, and 20oz sizes. We also ordered the Flatbread. The online menu listed mushrooms as an optional topping, but they didn't have any available, so I opted for no toppings. We decided to eat the flatbread there, and a very amicable young lady brought it out to our table. I really appreciated that the staff took the time to double-check with the kitchen before saying no to anything. I asked if they had crushed red peppers for the very cheesy flatbread, and after checking, she let me know they didn't. My latte was enjoyable, well balanced and sweet without being overbearing. The flatbread was just okay for me. I wasn't a fan of the marinara, and I think crushed red peppers would have helped elevate the flavor had they been available. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Woodlands. The space was clean, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was ideal for writing, reading, or catching up with friends over coffee. It's definitely a thoughtfully designed café with a lot of potential, and I'm glad we finally made it in.

The only problem I had was with my Woodlaccino. It was very good, but didn't taste very much like coffee, so there was room for improvement. I still enjoyed it very much and recommend it, though. The matcha was a good, too. Overall, I would totally recommend this cafe. Perfect for people who like coffee while thrifting since it's right next to a thrift store!
