We're in South Carolina. It's September. Everyone is wearing shorts. Apparently First Watch has chosen to operate at "January in Minnesota" temperatures. And because freezing wasn't quite enough, the restaurant has the trendy open-ceiling design that seems specifically engineered to make every sound travel directly into your skull. The loud, constant drone of the AC was amplified by the lack of anything soft enough to absorb sound. Between that and the general restaurant noise, breakfast felt a little like eating inside an airplane hangar. My Chickichanga itself was good, and the potatoes were nicely crispy, although the potatoes were aggressively salty. The bigger issue was the Vera Cruz sauce. I expected the traditional tomato-based flavor, but this was much more of a lime-forward sauce. If I had known, I would have gotten it on the side. It wasn't terrible, just not what I expected from the description. Overall, the food was mostly decent, but the combination of freezing temperatures, industrial-level acoustics, inattentive service, and the bizarre "you asked us to cancel these, so naturally we're going to bring them late and charge you anyway" donut situation made for a pretty disappointing experience. Two stars. The potatoes fought bravely.
