Wonderful time in an interesting space having delicious t-totaler drinks and fun appetizers. Will definitely go back for more and try something different. One of a kind in Salem OR. read more

Wanted to love this bar because the ambiance is excellent. Very cozy and classy vibe with decor that matched perfectly. Our server/bartender was very friendly, but we got the feeling that the establishment is rather understaffed. It took an hour and fifteen minutes for everyone at our table of four to receive their food, and when it came it was unfortunately mediocre. Our drinks were slightly better than our food, nothing super special but accurate to what we requested. read more

I was really excited to check this place out. I love the building and the space it's in and was hopeful that something great would go here. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. And I don't use those words lightly. I started out ordering a French 75. They made it with whiskey (not gin) so it ended up tasting like a whiskey sour. But no big deal. Its a drink, so I just tried to enjoy it (it was also too sweet). We ordered the fried pickles. I love fried pickles, so I was excited for this one! They tasted stale and like they had dumped dried herbs in the batter. Not great, but I was optimistic it would get better. We then ordered a salad, confit chicken and waffles (love chicken and waffles) and a prosciutto, pear and goat cheese flat bread. They brought the flat bread out first (which we thought was weird before the salad, but maybe they thought we got it as an appetizer?) The flatbread was not in any way baked or wood fired flat bread. I'm pretty certain it was microwaved, which, if you've ever had microwaved goat cheese, prosciutto, and pear is pretty gross. I had a few bites and thought I would just wait for the entree...it had to get better right? I was starting to doubt it would. We waited and waited (very patiently...only made a few comments to ourselves surprised at how long it was taking, we were the last people there, so it wasn't busy). Our server (who took our order by the way, and had discussed the chicken and waffles with me) came up to us with the bill, and asked if we needed anything else. We were a little baffled but told her we were still waiting for our entrees. She looked confused and wondered why that hadn't gone through (again we were the only people there, so maybe she should have checked on that? But she didn't even remember our order I guess? We were actually relieved in a way, bit to have to eat more terrible, overpriced food, so we paid for the food and drinks we had consumed and left. We laughed as we walked away, because the entire situation was so unbelievable. We didn't even get to eat our dinner! I love the food scene, and we have been excited with the Salem restaurant scene....but this unfortunately was a huge miss. Also, the red carpet, red ropes, phone booth, vest, paper logos backing, and the garbage bag trying to hide whats under the stairs were tacky...and the music was horrible. In hind site we should have known and turned around at the door. I cant see this place lasting long. Pretty sad for Salem. read more

Love the variety on the bar menu, the food looks like a typical homemade meal, but quality

We met my son and daughter-in-law at W. Wallace. This was our first time here. I loved the nostalgic, yet modern atmosphere. The drinks were delicious and artfully presented. The food was great too! We will definitely come back. read more

People don't understand the amazing quality of the food here! It's a hidden gem! Every single thing is made from scratch and it's all fresh. When adding chicken on a salad don't expect cheap rubber chicken, think real fall off the bone chicken! The blackened rockfish is probably the best dish I've ever had in my life, no joke. The cocktails are top notch and old school, nothing cheap or sugar water. Very classic and delicious. Don't get me started on the fantastic service, such genuine staff! Anyone who writes this place a bad review is clearly smoking crack! read more

Service was a little slow for being happy hour. Lemon drop that was ordered was good. Took 11 minutes to get drinks ordered and delivered. Since this place is "new" we will give it another try. read more

Ended up here because of our terrible experience at basil and board. Wanted one drink to end the evening and enjoy the pretty sunset. So glad we came! Server was AWESOME! super friendly and amazing service. Will be back next time we are in town read more

Full disclosure, we just had desert as we already ate at Archive, but wanted to check the place out. But we would definitely come back for the desert alone, and I will update once we go back, it's not even on the menu, but was a homemade waffle, topped with praline ice cream, and pears. Service was good, all the food we saw come out looked good. Menu was kind of hard to read, and you get the feeling it's someone's first restaurant endeavor but I hope they make it read more

Nice chill spot, randomly found in downtown Salem. Great place for trying fun cocktails, poured accurate not intended to get you wasted. Small food menu but the food was good. I had the steak salad, they should entail it being spicy though. Good thing i like spicy food. Gender neutral single bathroom. read more

First time here! It gave me the sense of an upscale lounge. Not a bar, not a restaurant, a lounge. And boy was it beautiful. Nice brick wall with a detailed ceiling. The bar seating was hopping. We chose a table and were served with glasses of wine immediately. The servers were very prompt and sweet. My friend ended up getting the Mac and cheese and her only complaint was the smoky flavor was pretty intense and it didn't mention that on the menu (she is a vegetarian). So that put her a little off. She still said it was good. The rockfish was nicely done and served beautifully. A little on the spicy side but still delish. Our wine was perfect and overall we had a great night. It is definitely loud in there but we didn't mind. The age group of people was a huge range, the music was perfectly selected. We knew quite a few of the songs. They did have 2 big screens so we were able to take a peek at the basketball games which was a plus. Overall we will be back! read more

My favorite. I love this bar/ restaurant. Great atmosphere. Excellent service and the food is consistently good. Great spot to meet up with a friend and catch up. Love the cocktails as well. The menu is always evolving which I love. The corn fritters are amazing! read more

Good food, weekday evening not terribly busy with delicious food and tasty cocktails. We'll be back.

Great food, drinks and the service is great. Smaller place with great atmosphere. This place is a sure bet on having a great time!

Love this spot, and love their cocktails! We have been here a couple of times for a night cap and always enjoy the atmosphere. I usually get an Irish mule, and it tastes great every time! I have been wanting to try one of their signature cocktails, and I'm sure they will be great. The food also looks delicious but I haven't had a chance to try it out. read more

Great service! Knowledgeable staff, that are able to whip up great drinks that are not on the menu.

Great experience today. My mother and I decided to stop in after some Black Friday shopping. I had the Butternut squash soup and my mother ordered the Wallace Burger and cajun fries. Great food great service. We will be back! read more

First time coming here and I will definitely be back! I was greeted immediately by our waitress Rose, she's amazing, and then we sat outside to enjoy the perfect weather. We took her recommendations on the Al pastor tacos and had Caesar salad. Both were amazing! I was too hungry to take a photo but if you are looking for a "new to you" spot, give W Wallace a try! You won't regret it. read more

Decided to stop in for a Friday afternoon cocktail after shopping and I was sort of dumbfounded. Guys, it smelled like cat pee the whole time, and i was the only one in there the whole time... Super harsh, yes, but it did. It was between 1-2p on a Friday afternoon. The only thing I could smell was a cat pee ammonia smell, no food cooking or anything. I can't figure out what it was. I ordered 2 drinks from the bartender who had ZERO interaction from me as well. No smile, no small talk, nothing. Incredibly awkward. I ordered my first drink - silence. 2nd drink - more silence. Made me realize why I really have never liked this place and the smell is really just weird. read more

My husband and I have stopped in for lunch a couple times now and we've been impressed every time. I can't remember exactly what we had, but the soup, burgers, and sandwiches we've had were delicious. Very friendly bartender and always a clean, enjoyable space. It's definitely one of our favorites downtown! read more

Yummy food and good service. The truffle fries are very good. It's a good spot to wind down at after a long week.

The first time we visited W. Wallace was within the first week it opened last month. We had heard Chef Colleen French who open 2 restaurants in Portland, gone on to work in the industry in New York and LA was now in Salem. We had experienced her food years ago in Portland. She was best known for "From Scratch" cooking and her sauces. She certainly didn't let us down. There were 5 of us and we just had to share our selections with each other as the perfect blend of flavor flowed over our pallet. From the fryer we ordered the baby kale, leek, and fennel cakes with almond parsley pesto they were yummy and everyone agreed. As an added perk, we loved that it was a gluten free option on the menu. We also ordered the bacon and corn fritters drizzled with honey. I have had corn fritters before but the bacon really gave it that added bonus you expect from this Chef. I had never had fried pickles before but if this is how they "All" make them I am never going back to french fries again. That being said the truffle fries with roasted garlic aioli sauce, we all agreed were the only way to eat fries. We then order our main dishes and everyone again were very pleased with their selections. The salads had the perfect blend of vegetables and salt (which always is better then the salt I use at home) and dressing. In the salads each has a little flavor of something added to enhance the experience. No boring salads here. For those low carb eaters these salads are great and satisfying and you can add chicken if you wish. The focaccia flatbreads are made from scratch and should not be mistaken for a type of pizza. They have their own taste and texture bread eaters will love. We ordered the hamburger and pulled pork sandwiches and again were not disappointed. Using cabbage instead of lettuce and adding special sauces gave it the added touch. Since that first visit we have returned at least once a week. We have tried the mac & cheese, chicken confit & waffles and roasted beef hash topped with a fried duck egg. This type of cooking you could not get for this price in Portland or any where. This is becoming our new destination place to go. This last week we had the opportunity to try their special Chicken Confit Taco, Pear Posole Salsa on a White Corn Tortilla, during the Salem Taco Crawl. The French combination of flavors again was incredible and inventive. The place was standing room only. My suggestion is to try and go during the off hours. I am sure you can call them and find out when those hours are. So if you want to try something new and different instead of the same old menu try W. Wallace. It is important to not compare the food to traditional American food but to be open to an American style food with a French bent. read more

Definitely a hidden gem. At first, I thought this was a clothing store. Then, it was the only thing open at 9:45pm- so I gave it a shot. I tried the Brussel sprouts salad and it was DELICIOUS. The waiter was great. The vibe was friendly. The truffle fries were to die for. Will definitely be back. Great date spot. Cool atmosphere. Very impressed. read more

We've had drinks at W Wallce in the past which are amazing, but never dinner. The early reviews were not stellar so we waited. Tonight we had dinner which was absolutely amazing! Service, dinner and drinks. The wedge salad is spectacular as well as the ceviche small plate. The place was packed and customers were being waited on. I would come back and I would recommend trying it again or for the first time. read more

Literally the best food and drink combo I have ever found in Salem. The Old Fasion is just that- an perfect old style drink. The food we ordered exceeded our expectations. Like for real. The Mac & Cheese Kurt ordered is the best I have ever had in Salem. The wedge salad was crisp, fresh and had awesome bleu cheesiness and I am sooo into that. Definitely coming back! read more

When we got there, two servers were sitting under their outside area chatting and watched us quizzically approach their locked front door. After a few minutes, one let us know that we could sit wherever we wanted. We ordered two mixed drinks, $16 Mac and cheese and an order of fries. It took us 50 minutes from ordering to get fries and Mac and cheese. We were one of two tables. We are not demanding diners, but 50 minutes for Mac and cheese and fries is hard to stomach when you have one other table of patrons. In the 50 minutes between ordering and receiving our food, our server with one other table checked on us once....not what you would expect when you pay 16 dollars for Mac and cheese. If I could leave less than one star I would. It felt as if they didn't want to have customers..... read more

The food was very salty. The service took a while. I had the Alfredo and the chicken was good but the wing was included with the bone. Tasted good but was surprised by the wing. The contents at the bottom of the pork chop dish was sweet and no good. Liked the environment and the decor. They stayed on top of the water which is important. Not a place I will go to again. read more

My wife and I discovered W Wallace during our seven-day visit to Salem the way any sophisticated gourmet does: We pulled into an empty parking space right in front of their door. It was very quiet inside but the welcome from the server was effusive so we decided to stick around. Great decision. In fact, we returned twice more during our stay and can recommend the experience most highly. The atmosphere is seriously old-time pub but the menu and wine list is at once new, exciting and affordable. We loved the fact that the owner seemed to be everywhere keeping his eye on things while welcoming newcomers like us. We worked our way through six different items during our three meals and paired them with either Willamette wines or local IPAs. Tough assignment but the chef and server passed with flying colors. Be sure to check out their menu ahead if you can. We're moving to Salem soon and W Wallace is penciled in as our welcome home meal. Hope to see you there! read more

Great craft cocktails. I love the bacon and corn fritters that are drizzled in honey! I'll be back to try some of the other items on the menu! read more

We were super excited to try this place. We were sorely disappointed. We were sat immediately and given waters. The hostess took drink orders relatively quick too. That's where the good service stopped. The bartender was loud and obnoxious, louder than the rest of the room, pounding ice in a bag that literally startled everyone. Food order took about :25 minutes. Young man taking order was dressed in cargo shorts and a dirty tshirt, although very nice. Food came out as expected timing wise, but was served to us with no utensils. We waited as our food was getting cold to grab the attention of the busboy to get something to eat with. Food was decent at best and the $7 house salad was literally a handful of bagged Romain thrown into a bowl. This place tries to be upscale, but misses the mark on the very basics. read more

Poorly executed cocktails and food. Fries are frozen not freshcut ans pickles had no seasoning and odd texture. We never even made it to dinner because we couldn't get past how bad the appetizers or drinks were. Asked for the tab and went elsewhere for dinner. read more

My friend and I were traveling through when we came upon this place ( after every other place was closing at 9 pm) and we found it so delightful. From the young bartender taking so much pride in his drinks and really creating rapport with the customers to the delicious and expertly cooked bar food ( TN style chicken wings !! And great fish tacos) . We felt such a welcome in a sleepy and reserved city like Salem. Highly recommend read more

Really good food, I had the Nashville Hot Chicken which was amazing. They also have reasonably priced drinks, and a very chill atmosphere.

We gave this place a try tonight for the first time. It had a great atmosphere and the service was good. The problem honestly is the food. The menu is not appetizing at all. They don't yet have a niche. They need to make a couple signature dishes and then have at least half the menu be items people can fall to like a classic burger rather than one with toppings that many people don't care for. The appetizers were not standard which can be good but nothing on there was desirable. We tried the pickles, they weren't very good. The pork tacos were ok but nothing to bring me back for. Overall this place has great potential but it needs a menu overhaul. read more

Came here on a Friday evening. Quite busy but no wait for a seat. Ordered two cocktails, waited about 15 min for them to arrive. Tasted watered down. Probably won't be back. Sad, as this seemed like a location that could have some great specialty drinks. read more

Got hungry at First Wednesday and decided to try W. Wallace. Nice atmosphere with benches and tables. It has a long bar. Staff is attentive and frequently checked on us. Bartender brought over a new ale for hubby to taste which was a nice touch. Had shredded beef rolls. They were flavorful and large. Ended up taking half home. The Cajon fries were great and not too spicy. Will go back again. read more

Best place in downtown Salem, in my opinion. Staff is super friendly..Great atmosphere..

We had a very nice dining experience! The food was wonderful. We started with the corn fritters. They were to die for. Light and fluffy, chunks of corn and the honey drizzled over made them, perfect! Yum. I had the Mac and cheese with creamy yumminess. And the truffle salt made it unique. My husband had the blue cheese burger ( half a pound) and said it was very juicy and had lots of flavor. His one complaint was he had to finish it off with a knife and fork. I'm not sure if that's a complaint. I will definitely be back! I want to try all the different dishes on the menu. read more
