We went here one night in Porto and I was pretty impressed. First of all, while the location…read moredoesn't offer a view of the water, the restaurant is located in the Ribeira district (right near the main square) and so you get all of the excitement that the area has to offer. We were serenaded by street performers playing the accordion and violin while we were eating, which was absolutely lovely.
My opinions about the service, however, are a little bit mixed. When we first walked up, the servers were very kind. They were completely full and we wanted to sit outside, so they promised us that it wouldn't be more than a five minute wait for a table, and allowed us to hang out at the bar inside until our table was ready. They delivered on their promise, and we were seated at a table outside within a few minutes.
Our server, however, was cracking some jokes that I found to be slightly inappropriate. First of all, he actually yelled at us for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground and told us that we needed to pick it up. I pointed out that we had thrown it there because we had asked him for an ash tray and we didn't actually get one so we had nowhere to put the butt. After we picked it up, he said "Just kidding" and walked away. It didn't seem like he was joking, so it really put us off. Additionally, the servers kept disappearing into a nearby alley to smoke and the manager kept coming outside to yell at them to get back to work. It certainly looked unprofessional.
We didn't have to wait too long for our food, luckily, and the food itself was pretty good. I ordered a vegetarian pizza, and for a reasonable price, I got a pretty large portion of food that tasted delicious.
The bar also offers a HUGE selection of delicious looking cocktails, although I did not order any since they were on the pricier side. I did order a couple of beers, however, and they were pretty delicious and priced much more reasonably.
The only other issue that I had with this place was at the end of the night when I asked to get the remaining pizza I had packed up to go. I had left five slices of the pizza on the plate but when I got home, I realized that they had only actually packed two of my slices. I wasn't happy about that since I had paid for the pizza and I expected to be able to take away everything that was left. I am not sure why they failed to pack the remaining three slices, as the box they gave me was pretty large and I am sure that the other three would've fit.
Nonetheless, the delicious food, atmosphere, and large selection of drinks available are what give this place a four star rating in my books.
