We were quite a large group (about 10), which seemed to baffle the waitress, although we had booked the previous day, and service was generally very slow. As the restaurant was changing their menu at the time, there were a few dishes which were not available, and the kitchen also seemed to be short of quite a few ingredients, meaning that not everyone got to order what they liked. This was a shame, as the menu itself was quite exciting - Prammen aims for Norwegian-European gastro pub fare, including the ubiquitous tapas plate and aioli burger, but also oxtail soup (which, unfortunately, was one of the dishes that were not available). Most of our party ordered burgers or tapas plates - i opted for the antipasti plate (I find it fascinating that this turned out to be a samller selection tapas plate - clearly the people at Prammen are of the opinion that Italians eat less than Spaniards...). I was satisfied, but not thrilled with my meal, the highlight of which was a thoroughly decent aioli. The burgers suffered from "height syndrome" - meaning that the meat-to-other ratio seemed far to large for my liking, but if you are a meat slab person, this would probably not trouble you. The burers were served with a skimpy amount of vegetables and an even more diminuitive amount of sauce, but a generous side of chips with ailoi. As for drinks, Prammen has a fairly standard selection of beers at a standard price for Norwegian conditions (meaning a high one...). The restaurant is part of a bar/eatery/concert hub complex, and the atmosphere is generally good. The interior is also quite cool, and it is a pleasant place to have a pint and chat.

The atmosphere is cozy and traditional Norwegian, with a warm and welcoming staff who made us feel right at home. We had the fish and chips, which were crispy and flavorful and fries. My husband paired his with a local beer, which hit the spot. Simple, well-executed food in a friendly setting. Would happily return!

Good Friendly Dining…read more Ole' school design. This may be typical of traditional Norwegian design, but it has the feel of an American steakhouse of the 1970s 80s. Not a bad thing just lots of dark wood and dark leather chairs. It's the kind of place where you can hear the sounds of cooking from the kitchen behind the bar and a little bell is rung when the food is ready. I ordered the steak Smorgasbord, which I now know is an open face meat sandwich. It was great. It was not too large but the perfect size for lunch and not wanting to get bogged down while walking the tourists sights. The steak was tender but properly cooked. Smothered in onions and gravy and accompanied by a small salad. Delicious and filling. A definite comfort food. The waiter/bartender was very helpful and super friendly. Fluidly switching between English Norwegian and German, that I heard. Seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. Dessert- an apple dish, see photos It too was tasty but not too heavy despite its large size. It was not overly sweet like you find in most American restaurants.

You also get to cook cheese and meat at your table. It's communal seating all at one large table, so be ready to meet your neighbors and chat. Everything was delicious and incredibly well done. You can also stay and/or camp there - we did in an RV. The views from the hall are fantastic as well. We also bought cheese and sausages.

There are two parts of this restaurant, the fancy dinner option (you must make reservations for this portion) and the cafe which is self service. My boyfriend and I did not know you needed reservations for the dine in option so we sat ourselves in the very welcoming cafe dining room. The menu for both are the same so no worries if you can't get a reservation. The self serve option can seem confusing initially but they have a lot of grab and go but you can also order hot meals by ringing a bell for the chef. Check out is right before you leave the self service area which makes it really easy. I felt the prices were really fair too. For food I got the meatballs and split pea stew. My boyfriend got reindeer with cream sauce and mashed potatoes. I absolutely loved my meatballs, they were sweet and savory, I did not really like the split pea stew though. My boyfriend loved his entire meal and cleared his plate. We also shared their most popular dessert which is the apple pie. It was really good, not too sweet which was perfect for us. Definitely come to this restaurant when visiting Oslo!
