Although I don't mind going downtown every once in a while, I prefer not to. Having a place that is easy asseible from 183 is a major benefit. I don't need anything too fancy, but I do look for a few key benefits. Some of those being hot coffee, easy access to food options (they even have lunch drop), and quality businesses. Common Desk has it all. From the top notch staff, to the variety of business that are run out of there, it is simply a great place to work. Whether you are there to work on your own, or network with others, this place is great. They have plenty of shared desk space and call booths on both floors. I end up coming here at least once a week, and plan on continuing that schedule for quite a while.

A fantastic space with a wide open roof top, look at the sky, type of area. The event had drinks, small bites, and a DJ. There were a few venders... jewelry, a party planning biz and such as well as raffle prizes... some pretty big prizes too. The event started at 7 and it was just about 100 degrees outside... it was hot. But that didn't stop people... the rooftop venue was packed with all kinds of people from sophisticated to hip and young to old! The heat really didn't stop... the sun went down and the rooftop got more packed... there were A LOT of people up there... all for a great cause though... so we stayed... drank a few more "Summer Luvin" drinks and sweat... mingled and enjoyed... the more we drank the less the heat mattered... funny that way! Seriously the venue is a wonderful spot for this kind of social event... it was super nice, big, open rooftop patio with seating, about 1/4 covered and would have been perfect in less heat... but even so... we really enjoyed it. The crowd was very mixed with those trying to be Austin elite (some a bit too hard)... those that were Austin elite, but didn't care they were, those that wanted everyone to know they were elite period, those there to support the event, and those just beautiful people in a wide range of dresses, suits (yes even in that heat), jeans, high heals, tennis shoes, and all... I am a people watcher and it was GREAT fun! I look forward to my next event held at the Vaughn and will seek it out... especially if it is at a cooler time of year!

The friends I went with had been there several times before and spoke highly of the experience. The appetizers consisted of oysters, Brie crostini's, and prosciutto wrapped butternut squash! I enjoyed the nicely spiced seafood gumbo, gulf fish, and a few bites of the sweet King cake. I was able to bring some leftovers home too so I could enjoy it again! The owner was there and I think he got the baby in the cake. :-) You can order additional drinks while there and we were recommended a very nice red wine that went well with the meal. I'm so glad I got a check to check it out and look forward to trying it again hopefully this year!

And we keep on coming back. It is fun, delicious and the ambiance inside the house and the gardens is optimized for enjoyment! Supper Friends offers a themed meal (usually dinners, sometimes brunch). It is normally a 5 course prefix menu that is carefully thought out. I'm particularly fond of their passed appetizers - they usually have 3 different types of delicious bites - that you can nibble on as you wait for guests to arrive and dinner to get served. There's an option to pair your meal with wines. The staff there is amazing from the wait staff, the sommelier, the chef, owner (including his family) - all very attentive and friendly! We would like to see more dinners offered. Our last dinner there was a couple of months ago and we've been waiting for the next event since! We can't wait to go back!

The Norris Conference Center is on Anderson Lane nestled next to the Walmart shopping center (somewhat hidden.) The reception was in the main ballroom with food served in a side room. The conference center appears to be ideal for corporate events, special occasions, and meetings. It is spacious with all the amenities you would expect at conference center, i.e., tables with linens, audio visuals, DJ section, spacious room, etc. The ballroom had a large screen projector, space for a DJ, raised stage and an audio-visual (AV) system. The food was a hit and miss. The chicken piccata was delicious. The vegetables and rice were a bit bland. The staff was very attentive, removing plates and utensils quickly. There were several times when the microphone was not working. I was not able to tell if the right AV folks were present or if this is a pervasive issue. Because the conference center is in a shopping center, there is ample free parking. I have been to Norris Conference many times over the years and find it to be a well-maintained facility.

We had a full menu at sit down tables and great staff supporting the event. Even had some escargot! Loved that it was a shared menu so we could all try everything on the menu if we wanted to. There was an inside bar with cocktails of the day like French 50 instead of French 75. ;-) We were fortunate the business next door was closed for the day so we could park there for the event, otherwise we would have had to hunt for parking. It was a smaller wedding so the ceremony part took place in the front courtyard area, which was intimate and cozy. It's right on the street so we heard some loud vehicles but nothing that really took away from the wedding. The venue is a house, of course, with many rooms and different nooks. One small room had the bar and an appetizer spread laid out, and another room had the dance floor with a DJ. I liked the different areas to mingle and hang out. The reception dinner was held in the back courtyard area, which was beautifully done with lights and great ambience. However the ground is a bit uneven back there, so I was slightly tilted on my chair throughout dinner. That was a little annoying and could be limiting for those with mobility or balance issues. The employees I interacted with were all very polite and provided great service. The wedding was beautiful and I think this is a unique venue that's perfect for a smaller wedding or party.

Parking is $5 an hour in the RiverSouth garage. The bartenders said that parking fee was capped at $10 for the event at the exit gate but they still charged us the full fee for 4 hours.
