It is located in a large, old building which does look good in the city centre, the inside is a little dark but that's part of the quirk behind The Printworks. There's always a large security presence, probably down to the bars/nightlife atmosphere here, with multiple entrances. It is across the way from Manchester Arndale and Victoria Station, so it can get pretty busy! It is a shame to see many businesses close here during the years, they have tried their best to re-occupy the vacant units to the point where it doesn't feel empty. 4*

The Printworks looks impressive, we can't deny it. It's interestingly put together, if a little Trafford Centre-esque fake. It's meant to be a Mecca of entertainment but the fact that so many of its clientele are less than discerning kind of puts a dampener on it for me, so I pretty much duck, dive in, get the stuff out of it that I want and ignore everything else. I adore the cinema here and always feel weird going to any other one so I have to keep coming back. At least with Wagamama you don't actually have to enter the Printworks itself to pull up a bench and slurp some nice noodles. The staff are equipped with a knowledge of film and an enthusiasm for the art of cinema. I grab a couch, remove my footwear and use the cushions to get comfy. An alcohol-free G&T is discretely served to my seat-side table. Films are often personally announced just ahead of the Kaplinsky certificate and after the trailers. In Screen 1 the curtain draws and renounces and the lights go up, just at this moment, like the old days. My membership gets me a free supper for Throwback on Sundays (modern classics) and the lounge areas between the screens are worthy of experiencing for dining even if you're not up for a movie. Classic Modernist furnishings align to the Bauhaus movement / The International Style and serve to complement the building's architecture and history. Clean lines. Stylised neon. Decadent minimalism. Quality to detail. Lush textures. Red lights and mirrors. A relaxing atmosphere with wifi. There's a content partnership with AppleTV+ so you get exclusives, simultaneous releases and even opportunities to watch the pilot episode of a new small-screen series right here on the big one. The staff are professional, laid back and expedient. They have the sophistry to serve you when you require serving or leave you be if you want that. Jack stands out for his other-level Customer Service delivery which ALWAYS belies a genuine commitment to making your experience the very best. And I've worked in New York, New York so I know what first rate CS looks and feels like. There's a smart park with benches out back (there are two entrance/exits). St John's square is like Soho Square in the West End, London innterms of size and feel. I often sit there watching the footy on my phone or reading if I arrive early. It's peaceful and smart at this end of town. The Everyman smartphone app is the clincher. Book your seat, save to apple wallet, add to calendar for a reminder and often, as you leave the venue, it connects through to Apple Music and plays you the theme tune to what you just watched as you leave the building right into your airpods. So HOME is pretty cool!…read more It kind of feels like the old cornerhouse in general vibe and outlook on life but in a big flashy new skin away from the rest of Manchester. In fact this does seem to be the new way of doing things by the council - let's build things on brown field sites and aim to create a new urban hub around it. With very little passing traffic, it's going to take a while to really become a mainstream destination but it is very easily reached with Deansgate and Oxford Road stations around 5 mins walk. On this occasion I was looking for somewhere to work for a few hours and sat upstairs in their cafe bar grabbing a couple of flat whites and a bacon bap . Not bad all round and pretty quiet on a Monday morning. It did get much busier at lunch time so it's good to see peeps really enjoying this offering! You can sit outside on deck chairs and tables and there's a cafe downstairs just selling drinks and cake.

The place has so much character with the walls adorning various art and posters of events past/present/future. The acoustics are incredible for music and it's just the perfect size for it to be called an "intimate" venue. I was so impressed with the gig I went to the first time, I recorded three of the songs and the response on Vimeo and Youtube has been incredible. Much of that is down to the incredible lighting and sound the call theatre creates. The Kino shorts event ( http://kinofilm.org.uk/category/kino-shorts/ ) was an altogether different affair. A brilliant networking event for film makers with some great films and some hilarious Q & As. The drinks selection at the bar isn't great but the size and nature of the menu makes up for it. If you are a theater fan and would like to see some brilliant performances from locals in Manchester then this is something you should not give a miss. Run by some wonderful, creative people who have a passion for life, art and everything Manchester. It is a great place for budding actors, writers and directors too because this could you your platform to meet people from the same industry and probably get involved. The plays are short and sweet and so very creative. Its strange how independent bodies like this are not as popular as they should be, same with independent cinema I guess. The environment is so warm and non pretentious that you can go alone and watch a play if you have no one to go with because you will land up coming out of there with a new friend! Verdict: Highly reccommended for all art lovers!

It's a sad situation for such an incredible building that's steeped in so much history. The KCFC is one of Manchester's hidden gems. They come out to shine about once a year with the…read moreManchester Kurdish Film Festival and some smaller screenings of home-made shorts, but other than that you probably aren't aware of their existence. A lovely not-for-profit organisation, the KCFC are a cultural beacon for Kurdish people in the North West and filmmakers in the region. They operate as a film company producing their own films, an educational organisation touring schools and colleges and an arts organisation arranging cultural events and screenings. If you're into cinema you really need to check out the KCFC. They have their finger on the pulse of regional filmmaking and an excellent grasp on cinema being produced in Kurdistan and Iraq. Run by Alan (Kurdish) and Sandra (Kiwi), the KCFC has a really friendly approach and welcomes anyone from any background to learn about filmmaking and Kurdish cinema. They produce several shorts a year and are moving into full feature films, they also host a Kurdish Film Festival which was a great success last year. Held at the Cornerhouse in 2009, the Kurdish Film Festival screened some award winning shorts and features made in or about Kurdistan. Filmmakers travelled from the Middle East to give talks and take part in discussions, and an eclectic mix of cinemagoers filled the Cornerhouse foyer for a week. Whether you have Kurdish heritage you would like to connect with, teach a class at a school or college who you would like to enrich with cultural knowledge, or just appreciate a good film when you see one, the KCFC is for you.
