Beware: short hair not serviced here. Or at least I was refused service today. Pretty disgusted in my experience with Jay/Jorge at VudoHair. I was searching for a new stylist and choose to make an appointment with Jay based on the Yelp reviews. I read through his entire website, service listings and browsed photos before deciding to just book a cut to give him a try. His schedule was very open with several appointment times available that same week. A good sign or bad? The day of my appointment I received a text cancelling my appointment and that he was out sick for the day. I get it, it happens, no biggie.... other than being bummed cuz I really wanted to get my hair cut before we left on a trip but that was not going to happen so oh well. He later reached out via text and offered an apology for the last minute cancellation and offered a condition treatment when I rebook. I thought that was nice. The next available date I would have in my schedule to rebooked was for today, 2 weeks later. I get a text yesterday saying he had a cancellation and asking if I can come in at an earlier time. Sure, I can rearrange a few things to be flexible. I walk in today and he takes one look at me and says "oh, I don't do short hair." And I'm thinking he is kidding or just has an awkward sense of humor and he says again, "no, I just don't cut short hair" ... so I am a little confused, seeing pictures of similar cuts to mine in his photo gallery... of course he is still going to cut my hair, right? I mean he rescheduled me twice, I rearranged my schedule today to come in early per his request, I drive all the way there...Who cares if my hair is short. (Shoulder length) no place on his website or marketing does it mention he refuses to cut shorter hair. WTF? He refuses to cut my hair!! Clearly he can run his business however he chooses but he was not going to make any $$$ with an empty chair. Unless it is just not in his skill set?? Then what's with the pics? Maybe he is a new business owner, maybe he is just a young guy getting started, maybe I don't fit the demographic he wants to service, but not exactly a great business strategy when you have a pretty open schedule. But he offered to still do the conditioning treatment...After you refuse to cut my hair? How does that make any sense? As if I want to spend the remainder of the day with wet hair or return home to blow dry and style my hair. Note to Jay: be clear prior to accepting a booking. Make mention of your skill set or refusal to cut short hair some place on your website. Also consider removing the short hair pics from the photo gallery on Yelp! read more

I went into the salon with neon orange streaks, doubtful anyone would be able to bring life back to my hair. But then, Jay sat me down, assessed the situation and calmly told me he could fix it. BEWARE: UNPROFESSIONAL WORK ETHICS. Amidst the new COVID ways of life, all have been affected one way or another. I have supported local small businesses and am thankful to still be working during these tough times. Even in my profession as a nurse, I have made sacrifices financially and emotionally and my heart goes out to anyone affected. The one thing I have been looking forward to for months was finally getting my hair done! This appointment was initially scheduled for 3/21/20. Due to COVID, understandably my appointment was cancelled and rescheduled for 5/16/20 (today). This morning I received a text message from Jay at 6:48 am to notify me that my 10am appointment is cancelled because an individual was coughing in the salon. Jay claims that the salon needs to be "vaporized" before he can continue business. There are a couple of things wrong with this scenario. First, he did not give me adequate notification and sent a text message 3 hours prior to my appointment despite having known about this situation prior to contacting me. According to my appointment reminder, if I would have cancelled within 48 hours of my appointment, I would be charged 50%. This was stated as $122.50 on my appointment reminder. However, Jay finds it acceptable to provide me with only 3 hours notice. I don't care for double standards. I realize that a pandemic is going to make everyone's situation unique; however in order to have a successful business; one must maintain proper ethics. This was where Jay made the mistake...his solution was to get me in his first available in two weeks which was a work day for me. He did not offer to make an exception since this was the second time my appointment had been cancelled. Secondly, according to the regulations mandated by the state, all individuals should be following safe practice by wearing masks and sanitizing hands and surfaces. This is what Jay stated would be done for his salon during reopening. So if someone coughs, you have those measures in place. If you do not have safe measures to reopen the salon to begin with, don't do it! At my hospital we do not use "vaporizing" as a way to disinfect rooms when a COVID positive patient is admitted. This is a droplet transmittable disease that can be aerosolized by coughing or during certain procedures such as breathing treatments. The proper disinfectant techniques are to use antiviral properties to wipe all surfaces and allow the room to sit for 1 hour without entry. Safety will always come first to me, I have seen just how devastating this virus is and it breaks my heart. With that being said, I have zero sympathy for poor business decisions and lousy communication. This would have been my first experience getting a color with Jay so I cannot comment on that, but there are so many talented hair stylists in Denver that will be happy to have my business. Wouldn't you prefer to support someone who operates with professionalism and integrity??? I certainly will!!! read more

Ok so how much do I love Jay?!! He is absolutely amazing with top grade personality. I had a disaster with the Aveda School in downtown Denver and Jay has managed to color my hair in two sessions. I was so amazed and I got so many compliments on my hair! He takes his time with you and makes sure to get you the results you want.
