They have all old cracked yoga mats, a mix of lights that are flickering or no glass covering. There is only one stair climbing machine that is very old. A number of pieces of equipment had no signs or the adhesive left from where the sign once lived. I wanted to like this gym but yesh, you're going to charge me $70 for this? (Or whatever it was bc there was no document with the prices, it was all verbal.) High price and a shit box, not worth it. They really need to upgrade equipment or cut prices.

Two may be a bit generous for this sweaty little gym on Main Street. Sweat (so appropriately named)…read moreis depressing. There always seems to be a leak somewhere in the ceiling, there's always a TV, stationary bike, or treadmill on the fritz; and ever since opening the Pole Dancing studio (brilliant idea by the way) downstairs, which always seems empty, all of the equipment has been crammed onto one tiny floor. I'm basically paying (alot I may add) for convenience. I love the fact that I can walk to the gym and not hassle with the stress of parking and traffic. Some more positives: they have an amazing personal trainer on staff. Although working out with him felt like an hour long torture session, I was pleased to see that after a few months I could finally do more than a few girlie push ups. I can't recommend the personal trainer here enough. Additionally, although Sweat is filled with young Manayunk peeps, it somehow avoids feeling like a meat market (surprisingly so). So although I feel like I'm paying close to a fortune to work out here, perhaps Sweat isn't so bad..

Another year and I'm still going strong with AFC Fitness. I come for the group fitness/yoga classes…read moreand truly feel that they are some of the best around. Some of these instructors are far better than at most gyms. Barre Fusion with Sevon gets me revved with amazing music, challenging strength not with heavy weights but with body and/or light weights and plenty of reps, alternating with fun and relatively easy dance/aerobic moves. If you can grapevine, you can handle it. And there is zero judgement or ego here. Everyone is just doing their best at their level. While the Studio A floor is newly updated (yay!), I would love if they added a real barre in one of the studios. We use chairs but it would make a difference to the movements. Sevon still keeps Barre Fusion amazing. She is conscious of body alignment and form, with safe, smart Pilates and dance moves. Noah's Hatha and Gentle Yoga classes are doable and challenging for all levels. He has so many years of experience in yoga, breath work and alignment that makes his classes the safest and wisest ones. He cues poses by discrete anatomical descriptions. For those who are paying attention, this is the difference between passive or mindless poses and active, thoughtful postures and a decent amount of effort. It's called architectural movement for a reason. I have left many a Gentle Yoga class feeling sore and/or sweaty! You don't need to be flexible do yoga, you just need to be open to learning. Marc's Gentle Yoga classes are also extremely safe, can be modified, and light and fun. His sense of humor reminds us that life doesn't have to always be so serious, and he always keeps the vibe focused and positive. The cleaning crew in the women's locker room are kind, diligent and deserve a huge shout out because they work so hard. Jivali studio could really use some TLC in terms of ventilation and humidity control. Perhaps even some fans when it is really warm. I still wish AFC could spend some time updating the equipment in Jivali - more thick blocks (most yoga students seem to benefit from these than the smaller ones but there aren't enough for a class of 16), cleaner and new yoga blankets, yoga straps for all. Bolsters would be amazing. It's evident that students don't wipe down or spray the equipment after use, which given the atmosphere of Jivali, seems useful. All told, AFC Fitness is still a great place for classes. The front desk staff are always so friendly. Melissa has a smile on her face every time I see her! The community feel of this gym is still very palpable. It's a bright part of my world. The free 30 day trial is worth your time.

I started out taking Johns Tuesday and Thursday class offered at 11:30 am. After 4 weeks I felt the difference in the way my body moved, it was more flexible and there is a calmness that I now experience. Johns choice of music, his readings and yoga practices has made a tremendous positive difference in my life. Johns' yoga class is the best, I recommend this class to family and friends. Again Planet Fitness in Roxborough decided to needlessly change the arrangement of the machines…read more They are no longer remotely arranged by body area but mixed up in a jumble. One side of the gym congested snd the other side us empty. The weight area is extremely congested and feels like a "Bros' club. It neither feels accessible or welcoming. Seems like the owners/manager at this would rather appeal to men NOT women. This PF has been cutting back hours since I joined 2020-2021. The gym's weekend closing hours were 9 pm on Fri. Sat, Sun. Now they close at 7 pm on Sat and Sun. Its bad enough that there is not availability to watch EAGLES football games but they refuse to include CNN on the mounted screens. The partnership that owns this PF seems more interested in potential write offs and skimping on hiring reasonably paid employees so that the gym can stay open until 9 on the weekends. The person I understood to be the manager is never there in an official capacity in the evenings. He seems to want to avoid getting feedback. Well here it is: the new arrangement of the machines looks like it was done by someone who has NEVER been to a gym. The reduction of the number of popular machines; legs and abs is nutz. No effort has been made to the TV bank to include more variety, NOT INCLUDING EAGLES GAMES IS ABUSIVE AND IGNORANT!!! The women's locker room showers mostly go unused bc it is freezing but the men's side is ok (sexist). Also the hot water in the shower is not regulated and it too hot. I think that may be a violation of code and may open the partnership to a law suit. There is competition in the nearby. Bare boning this gym is a bad business decision by the men in this partnership and having only male manager shows in the freezing Women's shower facility along with the lack of proper mixing valves in the showers so that the water is too hot is thoughtless and sexist. For the love of @od partners and managers hire capable HVAC, plumbers and cable wiring people and stop disregarding the members particular the female members. Your sexusm and money grubbing shows. My next letter goes to the franchise executives bc the Planet Fitness is giving the organization a very back look.

Launchpad Fitness changed my life! I have never been a big fitness/workout person, but I heard…read moreabout it through a friend and decided to try a class. The first class is free -- so why not? It was amazing! The workout is challenging but the instructors offer lots of versions of each move so you can pick the level of difficulty that's right for you. I started coming every week, and I have turned into a fitness JUNKIE. I don't recognize myself. I used to hate push ups and burpees and wall sits, but now I LOVE them. I used to have neck and shoulder pain and went to physical therapy and had to do boring exercises that I loathed. I don't have pain anymore because I have developed so much strength from going to Launchpad fitness, and it's really fun. It's a small gym so it's really about community and relationships. The instructors are really personal and caring. I see the same people in classes every week, and now they are my friends. We all cheer each other on, groan together, and support each other. The first time I missed a class after going for a few weeks in a row, Kelly sent me a message asking if I was ok. I let her know I was sick, and she offered to run to the pharmacy and get me anything if I needed it. One time, I showed up to class after a rough day, and Tamara hugged me while I cried and helped me use my work out as an emotional release. It's not just a business; it's a family. I'm not just working out; they've transformed my body and my attitude towards fitness.

Stay away!! Save your money, and find a different gym. Coaches engage with you for a few sessions…read moreuntil they get you to sign up, and after that, it becomes just lip service. I found a love for Xfit over 3 years ago @ another box…read more Having absolutely NO experience in any sport and ALL the experience in "habits that are bad 4 me", I jumped in on a personal dare as I hit major turning points in my life. That's where I met James, Hannah, & Tracey:). Over time, I realized I enjoyed James' discipline & coaching above the others because it focused on personal best and not making it a contest. He also gave me a taste for the "Strongman" which our former box seemed to shy away from. I was thrilled when they opened their own place & happily followed them along (with my dog, Mango). Crossfit & Strongman is not elitist athleticism as some would believe or advertise. It's more evolved than that for me. It's mental therapy from my work & my life. It's physical therapy. It's anger management. It was the "Goldilocks" in my fitness where all my attempts with other gyms & fad diets failed. So much $$$ wasted... if I had only knew then what I know now, right? FFE is community, family, people who throw down, cheer each other on then sometimes throw back a few beers after (or ciders). It's balance because life is about balance. They keep healthy realistic.
