We paid him immediately upon tax preparation and he indicated verbally and in writing that he would file our tax return. However, he neglected to file our taxes, resulting in substantial penalties and interest from the IRS. We have tried to reach him. He does not return our numerous calls or e-mails. I dont know what his problems are, (medical, financial, marital), but I would caution you to stay away from this CPA. He is negligent and incompetent.

She dismissed all my questions by telling me she "doesn't keep that information in her head" and would charge me to look it up ("What's the income limit for a married couple to have a Roth IRA?"), or to go ask a lawyer. That was when she answered my questions at all. Twice, I asked her to estimate our tax bill with plenty of time before taxes were due... she didn't. Then, on April 14 at 7:00 PM, we got a text message to "write a check to the IRS" for almost $20K. I love surprises! Especially when I get to scramble to put a large sum together overnight, that's the peak of life experience! Most of my emails were answered with wonderful jabs at my intelligence without actually providing an answer, creating more emails, more questions and a higher bill. We got a bill for almost $6,000 for that year's tax prep! Super great! At the time, I was extremely dissatisfied with my lackluster Mercury insurance agent. I was an unannounced walk-in in Kathleen and Phil's office (referred by Mercury's main office): Kathleen and Phils saw me right away, provided the immediate answers they could, called me with the researched answers by the next day. They shared that they reality was they could not take me on as a new client because my current policy was not up for renewal for several month, and it was not in my (financial) interest to cancel my current one and start a new one. While I REALLY appreciated their integrity, I was also quite disheartened as my current agent would take several WEEKS to get back to me, and it was like pulling teeth to get any communication, let alone service from them... Kathleen and Phil had gone out of their way to be of assistance, even knowing that I might not be able to become a client now, or in the future. Their level of courtesy & integrity, their listening, as well as how personable they were, and the small-neighborhood feel of their office, is exactly what I was looking for. Somewhere where I would sense that my calls and messages would be heard and returned timely within a day, in case there might be an issue... They split the invoice into parts and send it over multiple months. Spectrum refused to reply to my emails and then started charging sending me invoices for late payments. Finally, I receive an email explaining that estimates are never accurate. How can they claim their estimates are off by 40% if they are half the professionals they claim they are. Please, please stay away from Spectrum Financial, Tamara Berges and Janis Greene.
