A Yelp event last month introduced me to Another World VR Arena in Vaughan. This business is in a plaza to the west of a Tim Hortons that I like on Highway 7. Both businesses are east of Keele Street. I returned to ask about pricing for both birthday parties and corporate events. To play in the arena VR, it's $44.99 per person Monday through Thursday. If you're doing Friday through Sunday, the price jumps to $49.99 per person. Pricing for birthday parties and corporate events are similar for the first two party packages. Party package 1 consists of a two-hour reservation with 45 minutes of play. The place is flexible with party size. It also has food and drink packages. It also allows your bringing your own. This package is $599. Party package 2 is similar, except that you get a three-hour reservation with 1.5 hours of game play. The corporate event has party package 3. It gives you a four-hour reservation with two hours of game play. I dropped by after work on Wednesday. I was driving westbound. I had no problem doing a u-turn on Highway 7 at Bowes Road, and then hanging a right into the plaza. There was lots of parking. I pulled into a spot. I then put my socks on, followed by my sandals and headed over to the place. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A male staffer approached me and asked if I had filled out the waiver. I had online. I gave them my name and they found my completed waiver. Yay! We were a group of five. We got to watch a how-to video. It was detailed and perhaps a bit lengthy for an introduction on what elements are a part of every game. The male voice narrating was also super annoying with a weird accent-intonation combo. Staff were great helping us put on our VR headset and controllers for gestures, shooting, and more. The male staffer who asked about my waiver also helped put on my goggles, making sure that they were snug, but comfortable. He also looped the controller straps by having me make fists with my hands. He let me know which triggers to use for shooting. I enjoyed the first game. It was a nice introduction to our little group of five folks. We ended up shooting one another, travelling up and down buildings, and getting more tools by touching a treasure chest and collecting whatever tools were available. I don't think the other folks knew that accessing the treasure chest was valuable. Shooting them was fun. It was even better when I got a shield from this treasure chest. I got to block their shots and shoot them to death. If you enjoy relieving stress in a virtual environment, try VR gaming. It's so fun. The next game was all of us working as a team to kill zombies. OMG! I didn't think that I could have even MORE fun, but I did! If you die in this game, others can revive you by touching you on your shoulder. At one point, a giant elephant killed our entire team a couple of times. We had to head over to a marked yellow area on the floor to be revived as a group. Note - before entering the space you'll need to take off your shoes so you will be shoeless throughout the entire facility (including the communal washroom - which was an interesting experience lol but not the end of the world) The staff were really friendly and great at getting us all set up and explaining how the games work. They have a large selection of games to choose from. I definitely recommend going for at least an hour or more, especially if it's your first time, because we found that getting used to the mechanics and learning the games takes some time. After that, we ran into technical glitches one after another. Two of us ended up having to drop out and start a different game on our own. One member of our group arrived about 5 minutes late. We heard the buzz and told the staff and watched the staff buzz the door open to let him in, so I put my headset back on and continued with the setup. But he kept having trouble getting his console set up, and with the only staff member busy helping the rest of us, he was never able to join in and ended up leaving before our session was over. We were really disappointed by how the situation was handled. When we asked about it afterward, the explanation didn't make sense to us -- we had mentioned at the start that one person was running late, and the staff member had let him in and even let him go in to one of the VR rooms to get set up. The response felt dismissive: "You'd be surprised how many people are just here to sit and watch." We had such a great experience at Sandbox VR not long ago, so the contrast was stark. The technical issues were frustrating, but in our experience, the lack of organization and the way the situation was handled were the biggest problems.

At the entrance you are greeted with staff to sign a waiver on the iPad. Then you have to "check-in" where you purchase your tokens and playground pass if you like. For kids they give them a bracelet and put a parent's phone number in case which is a huge plus! For tokens you can purchase them more inside instead of at the check-in counter. The claw machine tokens are separate though so you'll have to purchase them inside. Once you receive your boarding pass, you give them to the staff there who says "Enjoy your vacation" and go through a mini security. I didn't get many pics because we were honestly too excited and just in awe. After security you go up the escalators and you've entered vacation! It's honestly incredible inside from arcades, to restaurants, darts, VR, golf, baseball, and so many more! They even have a mini store there with snacks, drinks, etc! Just a lot of things. We will come back! It's just amazing here. Gotta take more pics as well this time around. My kids loved it so much. They spent hours at the playground and want to come back again the next day!

This is how an arcade should reinvent itself…read more We were glad to find this Playdium location in Whitby years after the original Square One location closed. The arcade space here is massive featuring many games as well as an elevated rope course and several air hockey tables. We took advantage of the $20 eat up game on deal for kids to have a meal and 1 hr all-you-can-play which can be activated after the meal is eaten to maximize the fun including claw machines. Card fee is extra but can be recharged via a prior game card. There is a large dining space in addition to the party runs ideal for group gatherings. The kids meals were huge, including large pizza slices or burgers that came with fries and a pop drink. Suffice to say our group had a great time at Playdium Whitby for several hours. We miss the old batting diamond at the OG location but this reinvention with Cineplex targets younger kids. Skip it or hit it? Playdium is once again a great place to play and we're glad they're popping up all over the GTA including at this Whitby location.
